  1. You also claimed Sunderland had called a press conference for 9am. I didn't claim it, that's what was said on the radio.
  2. Darren Bent arrived at Newcastle Airport a short while ago, someone took a pic of him there which is now on the Spurs forums. Seems like his move to Sunderland is back on again.
  3. what if bassong would rather go to spurs even if they are outbid by citeh ? what if bassong would rather go to spurs even if they are outbid by citeh ? I'm presuming he has more than 1 year left on his contract in which case there wouldn't be any desperate need for Newcastle to accept a bid they didn't like. It's not as though Bassong is one of the big earners. What is said is what is being said on some of the forums, I don't know how accurate it is but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. It's also being said that we've bid for 2 Toulouse players, Sissoko and someone else.
  4. It's being suggested that Spurs offered £6m rising to £10m with all the usual Spurs type clauses and payments spread over the years. Newcastle want £18m with the bulk paid up front. Possible reason for Newcastle making the bid public is the hope of Man City creating a bidding war.
  5. Not a match but the first time I met Sir Bobby at WHL early in 2002. Spurs had just lost and I had been invited to the players' lounge for post match drinks. Sir Bobby appeared after a while and I took the opportunity to say 'well played' expecting him to say thank you and walk off to mingle with others as almost all managers do. But no, he started a conversation about the match and football, which at the time seemed as though it lasted for ages but in truth was probably more like 2 or 3 minutes but that was 2 or 3 minutes more than I had been expecting. What became obvious afterwards was that he seemed to stop and speak to everyone who spoke to him. He was, very simply, one of the most gracious and down to earth people I have had the pleasure of meeting. One of nature's gentlemen.
  6. The word "legend" is too easily and often used in football. Sir Bobby Robson was one person who "legend" doesn't really adequately describe. He was a colossus in the game and, having had the honour and privilege of meeting him three times at WHL after matches, he was also one of the nicest people anyone could wish to meet. A sad day, not just for Newcastle or Ipswich, but for football in general. RIP SBR.
  7. 4 ITK's on 3 different forums. Don't go on KD's forum so I don't know what's been said there, but enough different people saying the same thing. Which basically is Huntelaar 'hopeful', Vieira practically finalised. Been a while since i looked at this thread..... what does "Practically finalised" mean ? Meant just that. Personal terms were agreed, just needed a medical. Then Henry said he'd never recommend anyone to Spurs, Wenger spoke to Vieira and it now seems like he'll be rejoining them. It's no loss not to sign him, there are far more fans against signing him than in favour, even if he is a leader whose attitude we could well do with. A 33 year old former great player now with injury concerns I don't think really improves the squad.
  8. Sunderland have called a press conference for 9am. Darren Bent I guess.
  9. HP? SSN Looking at Bassong and Delph apparently. Broomfield was looking at Jonas as well. The options seem to be Bassong or Dunne and Jonas or Petrov. With those options I hope we stay well clear of City.

  11. Being reported Spurs have bid or enquired about Bassong, Turner and Wheater. No reason to doubt it as our need is all too obvious, I would guess 2 to be the minimum requirement. On a forum, it's suggested that Spurs bid £4m rising to £6m for Bassong and were told no transfer dealings would take place until the transfer embargo is lifted, which could be at the end of next week. Don't know how accurate that is, probably a load of bollo.................
  12. Being said that Bent will be £12m rising to £15m depending on 25 appearances and Sunderland avoiding relegation this season. Don't know how accurate that is. Crouch was £9m all paid up front. Bent has his medical at Sunderland tomorrow. From his twitter page.
  13. My mum was born and bred in Gosforth, she idolised George Robledo. Doesn't make me a fan but it's the reason why Newcastle's result is always the first one I look for after Spurs.
  14. Incredible that we're actually shrinking the squad. Unless we've two CBs about to sign. Distin maybe one, the other? Where's Bassong today? Juve have accepted £2.1m bid from Olympiakos for Olof Mellberg. Seems to me to be a bargain.
  15. Wenger wants him as well. Not a tough choice for him to make, Arsenal or Spurs.

  17. Being strongly rumoured that Levy flew to Madrid today. Also that Vieira should be signing in the next day or two. Don't know whether to laugh or cry tbh.
  18. Yep, 9 games, 9 wins. Took 8 games for Ramos to go through the revolving door.
  19. Most teams score 7 against Darlington in a pre-season friendly played on a Saturday. Just surprising they scored a couple in reply. Only if Sholagol plays for them. Stop trying to boast about your pathetic pre-season, we've ripped it up and yous know it. We're going to get so many points next year they'll carry some of them over. edit: and I notice you couldn't reply to the second part of my post Real Madrid have got like another 6 weeks before they start their league program, Newcastle start in less than 3 weeks, so I'm not surprised you're more advanced than Real tbh. I think he might have been joking, still doesn't take much to wind a Spuds fan up, as usual. I made him admit we're better than Real Madrid at this point in time...pretty pleased with the morning's work. I said Newcastle were more advanced, not better..................

  22. Not sure how good those players are though David McGoldrick (Southampton - £1m) - Didn't do much @ S'ton last season. Paul Anderson (Liverpool - £250k) - Seen him at Swansea, decent, but all pace Lee Camp (QPR - £100k) - Average Keeper Chris Gunter (Spurs - £1.75m) - Good prospect, but seriously lacks pace Paul McKenna (Preston - £750k) - Not good enough for Preston Joel Lynch (Brighton - £200k) - Don't know him Seriously lacks pace? Not a speed merchant admittedly, but not exactly a slouch either, far quicker than Hudd for example though that isn't necessarily a good example! Agree with him being a good prospect though, most fans would have been happy for him to go out on loan rather than being sold, some of the coaches thought the same, but Redknapp was adamant. Shame.
  23. If Spurs can maintain their Redknapp form of last season over all of this season we could do a lot better than most of the pundits are suggesting. I think Arsenal may possibly struggle to make 4th this season. They're not selling the Highbury flats to reduce the Emirates debt, the board split over the rights issue, Adebayor gone, Nasri injured, Chamakh's agent hinting that a move is far from certain, and rumours that Man City are after Kolo Toure. May be wishful thinking on my part, but Arsenal don't give the impression that they are all singing from the same hymn sheet this time around.
  24. Spurs won their 3rd pre-season match last night beating Peterboro 4-0 (Bent, Defoe, Modric and Pavlyuchenko). Their previous matches were 3-0 against Exeter (O'Hara, Lennon and Bent) and 3-0 against Bournemouth (Keane, Defoe and Palacios). Will be more of a challenge Friday night against Barcelona (even if half their star players will be missing). Personally, I won't be unhappy to see Spurs lose that one so long as they play reasonably well, I don't want to see a long winning sequence. Last season Spurs won all 9 of their pre-season matches, as soon as the season started they were total sh*t until Ramos got sacked.
