'Arry has always been a pretty good manager but now is the first time he's really had any money to spend. His days at WHU were successful as those league finishes were in spite of Terry Brown (the then chairman), not because of him. Little doubt that without Redknapp West Ham would have been contenders for relegation. The spanners fans were celebrating when Brown sold up, he was more detested by the fans than Fat Fred was by the Newcastle fans. At least Fat Fred spent money on good players, even if they couldn't be gelled into making a good team.

There aren't qualifications for a scout, just a knack of seeing a youngster and deciding there is talent there. He gets a mention at the bottom of http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:KPytoBZMpQMJ:www.footballcv.com/content/media/newsletter_0606.pdf+lil+fucillo&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=uk when he was a scout with Everton. Probably got the job because he knows Wise/Vetere etc etc. Moving from Leicester to be Head Scout of Newcastle seems to be a good upward move for him.

Really? thought he was poor tbh. Eye of the beholder I suppose. Stood out why we kept chasing him until we got him, significant upgrade on Chimbo. We're being linked with so many GK's and CD's now, I'd love to know what the order of preference is. Dont get me wrong, he's definatly looked the business in other matches and maybe 'poor' was the wrong choice of words, but i definatly felt he was below par tonight (altough most other spurs fans thought he was good tonight). It must be you then!!

Another cracking game tonight. Ironical that after comceding 4 goals I thought our best player was Hutton, immense tonight imo. Also heard tonight that we've enquired about Allan McGregor and Carlos Cuellar. Maybe we're after the Rangers' defence? Grant also showed how badly he got it wrong in the Carling Cup, Joe Cole was superb, unlike his namesake Ashley who was an embarrassment to his profession and John Terry who was simply an embarrassment. Still looking good for old rednose for the title. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

If you want a really good example, Man United's 1974 relegation turned the club around. From my point of view, 1987's relegation benefitted Villa massively. Relegation can be a good thing. That's not to say it is something one should want, mind. Man Utd's revival only really started with the signing of Cantona. Before that Ferguson was on very thin ice. There may a couple of instances in the past 20 years or so where relegation has been a benefit, but there are probably a dozen clubs in the lower leagues right now who would strongly dispute your reasoning.

Did I see you've released Dixon? Weren't you saying he was as talented as Rooney a while ago? Yes, gutted for him tbh. Two ACL's and a dislocated knee which needed a complete knee rebuild all before his 18th birthday, Dr Steadman says his knee simply won't be up to playing at a high level so Spurs have paid up his contract though he can still use the training facilities to get himself as fully fit as he can. He didn't play for the Irish senior team though he was named in 3 squads as a 16 year old and made the bench for two of them. I don't think I said he was as good as Rooney at the same age, not far behind though tbh, same build, same temperament and same position. There were a lot of comparisons to be made. BTW, the reserves finished 3-3, the last half hour must have been boring!

Seems like a good game at Brum where Taylor makes his return from suspension. Brum 3 (Jervis, O'Connor 2) Spurs 3 (David Hutton, Pekhart, Taarabt) An hour played.

Think it's sad for any club to face going to the wall because of the owner's illness. Even more so in this case bearing in mind the support that Mileson has given to other small clubs, not just Gretna.
-
Totally agree. The linesman wasn't in line for Ireland's one and it was close even if he had been in line. But with Bent's goal they only flag nowadays if the ball goes to the player who was offside. It was never going to reach Berbatov even if he had been offside. TBH, ever since the authorities took the new interpretation there's been more cockups than there were before.
-
......... and Gus Poyet said that Keane was only showing disappointment for being subbed so there probably won't be any punishment for his hissy fit. Not what I've heard. As for the dud offside decisions, I'm philosophical about it, you win some, you lose some, sh*t happens. But it's easy to be relaxed about it when we're not chasing a higher league position for anything more than extra prize money. I shouldn't happen though. If the same thing happens to Newcastle tonight, there would be a lot more intensive reaction and rightly so, there's a lot more at stake. What do you think Keane is unhappy with? Ramos in general? No, he likes to be the centre of the universe. Apparently got it into his head that Berbatov has adapted quickly to the premiership because he's got Keane to partner him up front. They do play well together but clubs have squads to change things. Keane actually could benefit from being dropped for a match or two imo. I think it could well happen too. Ramos ripped into him after the match apperently.

Just seen your post. I'm critical of Chimbonda for not getting the ball on target, not for missing his penalty, I'm certainly not blaming him for us going out. Without knowing why others didn't step forward I wouldn't criticise those for not taking a penalty either, though I do understand the point you're making.

Kightly has looked not much better than average whenever I've seen him, which tbf, isn't very often. Released by Spurs as a kid and went into non-league, Grays I think without checking. Of those on that list, only Surman and Ledley strike me as being future Premier League quality.

If any players is linked with a move away from Spurs Jol turns on them and makes out they're s****. I remember when we were linked with Mido when his loan spell had ended with your lot and Jol was like "The worst attitude on a Spurs player in years" and "The only club I'd wish him on is Arsenal" etc, then when he came back and joined your lot on a permanent deal it was "Mido's staying! " I said he was barrel of lard and nothing has changed there!
-
Maybe, but he still doesn't make the most of his natural talent. I'd much rather have someone with lesser ability but with more desire to perform at the highest level he is capable of playing at.

no thanks Massive improvement on Milner, would add some much needed pace and directness (is that really a word?) to the team. Would be a, potentially, very good signing imo. If the gossip column is right about Ramos listening to offers we could probably get him for £8m or less. Well worth looking into. Lennon better than Milner my arse! He can run quick......"big whoop wanna fight about it?" Lennon positives - Fast Lennon negatives - Can't pass, can't cross, can't shoot, can't tackle, can't read the game, fancies himself as a gangster, obviously a c**t (likewise Giles Barnes) You would think they might ask for NZogbia in any sort of deal or else it might be hands off. Would anyone want a swap deal involving those two? I would prefer Diego Capel to N'Zogbia tbh.
-
Lennon reminds me of a young Kieron Dyer, lightening quick with a decent footballing brain to go with it, some of the one touch football he plays at Spurs is excellent, his crossing can be poor at times but having the pace he's got means he won't have to cross it into a packed penalty box as much. Lennon's crossing is poor most of the time and he puts the ball into the penalty area irrespective of whether there is a Spurs player there to receive it. Let's say I'm not his biggest fan! FWIW I believe Ramos is not too keen on him either but Levy determines whether a player is sold by the asking price he puts on him. I don't think Lennon will be going anywhere but I will keep my fingers crossed.

consider your season if you'd not won the milk cup!! an utter travesty basically given the amount of cash you've been spending of late and number of players bought...still, you did, so i'll shut up Been a good season since Ramos took over in October. In the bottom 3 in the Premier League, looked doubtful we would progress from the Uefa Cup group stage after the defeat by Getafe, it's been good since then. True, we've spent a lot of money and will spend a lot more in the summer, but Ramos hasn't had a lot of time to shape the team as he wants it. granted, granted....was just saying how different your (the fans) outlook would have been had you not won the cup, six points above us is not a good season! I can think of some fans who would change the manager each time we lose, let alone not winning a Cup! Personally, all I want each season is progression on what went on the season before and to walk out of WHL after a match thinking 'good game, good performance, looking forward to the next one'. I wasn't thinking that this season before Ramos arrived. For me, silverware in a bonus, not an necessity, so I'm disappointed for sure, but gutted or devestated like most on the Spurs' forums? Not really, maybe I don't set my sights as high as others. Actually hardly anyone on the spurs board is gutted tbh. Just the usual, blame pascal chimbonda rubbish but nothing major. For some strange reason, i didnt even feel as bad as i thought i would. One thread titled 'No heart, no desire, awful performance' has been rightly slated. I'm amazed to see comments like Ramos was tactically inept, we won the match ffs. Ramos can hardly be blamed because Gomes saved one penalty and Chimbonda can't hit a barn door!

Generally, they've looked a lot better since McLeish took over. I don't think Brum will lose tbh, may possibly be a draw.

How Many more Humiliating defeats will keegan face before he walks again.
Martin Lol replied to a topic in Football
I can't see KK walking, especially if the rumours of his Soccer Schools losing loads are true, and I think it's less likely to see Dennis Wise taking over. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Keegan moved on in the summer if results and/or performances are bad for the rest of the season. -

The performance was bad. If we had played up to anything like a normal home performance for this season it would have been a win, not a defeat, But it was 0-1 and it was going to be a big ask to get 2 goals in Eindhoven. Penalties are a lottery, some you win, some you lose. The only bad penalty was Chimbonda's, you can't score if you can't get it on target.

That doesn't mean he'll come to us ffs. we have to look to the championship now do we? No, just not at CL standard players. If he leaves he'll go to a CL club in Spain or Italy, or even Chelsea(i think they could do with his type in midfield). Xabi Alonso is top class and out of our league. Spurs are interested in signing him, we've never signed a replacement for Carrick. Suppose it depends on who else wants to sign him and also whether he wants to start in most games. He will have a choice of clubs to pick if he moves, no doubt about that.
