Brilliant.

No surprise to see Townsend excusing Wilshere's horrible tackle. He's a pathetic pundit, fawning over the star players and spouting the mainstream media line on every incident.

They should just go the Premiership route. It would be the best thing for the rest of the teams, but I imagine a few brown envelopes are being sent from Perez and Rosell to 'convince' them to accept this proposal.

Henry has been good for the Red Sox, but I think you're overstating it a bit. I don't think so, since I'm aware of most of the things they've done for the Sox, which really are incomparable when you compare them to owners like the Glazers or Abramovich (who, while turning Chelsea into a successful team, still has to fund the club). What do you want from owners, really? You want them to invest capital in youth, in infrastructure, in good management, in facilities. You want them to have a long-term vision for the club, you want the club to be able to survive without their money, you want them to generally be quiet and gentlemanly, be a good face for the club. You don't want them saying and doing stupid things, you don't want them interfering into areas where they don't specialise, you want them to create a proper hierarchical structure that can last many, many years. You want them to respect the history of the club and the fans, you want them to respect the city and the culture. There aren't many owners in sports that tick all those boxes, but Henry did (and continues to do so) for the Sox, which is why I rate him very, very highly. And I think the most important thing for owners to do: bring success to the club. But still, bringing success via the Man City way might not be as gratifying as if you did it via the Arsenal way, so there's a good and a bad method to achieving success. Henry achieved success with the Sox and did it the good way (scouting, youth development, developed stadium which generated revenue that funded expenditure etc.).

Probably the best owners in all of sport, imo. Their track record with the Red Sox is extremely, extremely impressive. They'll respect the history of the club, they'll have a plan to develop the stadium and increase revenue, they'll have a coherent, logical strategy to develop the club which would include not interfering with the manager/football-men and they'll not be total cunts in the way that many, many other owners are. They're really an ideal ownership group. Liverpool have lucked out, big time.

More competition, less profits. If the Premier League wants the money they're getting, then they're going to have to make sure that whoever bids for the rights generates enough profits to be able to pay the rights fee. If this woman wins, then money going into the game would dramatically decrease because Sky won't be able to pay the fee they're paying now. That's a good thing for the customers in the short run, imo, but in the long run the PL will suffer, hence the 'quality will suffer' argument having some validity.

Mallorca equalise.

Messi, 1-0. He's such a good finisher.

Yeah, that's broken (unless I'm confusing the shin guards with the unnatural bend I think his leg has).

Newcastle United v Wigan Pre-Match Thread - 16/10/10, 3.00 PM
Taylor Swift replied to The Prophet's topic in Football
Pressure well and truly on for the first time this season. I think we'll rise to the occassion and win 2-0. -
I suppose we shouldn't take his quotes too seriously. He says these things because he's trying to be diplomatic. I don't think I've ever heard him criticise a player. He's always bigging them up, saying they're important to the team etc., but I don't think that truly reflects his feelings about them, which is why his actions sometimes seem to contradict his words.

Nice guy. Hughton's never gonna go skitty on national TV. There'd be nowt to gain from it anyway, i'd rather he maintained his dignity - every man and his dog knows the decisions were absolutely ridiculous, he needn't inform anyone. The only thing to gain from coming out and lambasting a referee is a hefty fine. Brings the game into disripute doesn't it liiiiike. Nah, disagree with that. Like it or not, we're in a league where if you scream the loudest, you are heard. Look at Wenger and Fergie and how they moan and whinge when things don't go their way, then in the next match the ref has that in the back of his mind when a 50/50 challenge happens. Hughton should have gone ape shit at the corrupt ref today, maybe he could have accused City of paying the ref off, which would have made sure everyone saw a replay of the shite decisions today and i bet you we wouldn't get that treatment from referees any more.

He's useless, man. My original thread title was right.
