He’s our best central defender. If he leaves because Burn - as good as he is - starts more games, it’s a very shortsighted decision. Burn is going to turn 34. How much will we get if we sell? £30m? A replacement would cost much more.
-
Arsenal bought Eze and he was the key difference. We don’t have anyone similar to him in the squad.
-
We should not have been trying to defend for basically an entire half.
-
Van Hecke will have one year of his contract remaining next summer. He would be a very good replacement for Schar. 30m?

The good news is we’re shopping in the same supermarket as Liverpool and City. The other good news is we are looking at players within the correct age bracket. The bad news is we can’t compete on wages so we need some luck as well. The transfer strategy has not changed, even with all the setbacks. It augurs well. I would rather keep trying like this instead of accepting 28 or 29 year olds that the rich clubs want to move on from. That’s a dead end strategy.

The floor of the team is very high, we have options. But, Isak was a big game player who made a difference in key matches. We don’t have anyone like that right now. The goal of the next few windows should be finding someone with a very high ceiling, even if he’s inconsistent. I honestly don’t want to see £40-50m signings. It’s time to go for £80m or £90m on a winger or attacking midfielder that’s decisive in key matches.
-
Because they know they can throw in money and money actually solves problems in football. What's the point in keeping Isak and going through all the hassle with him? They can we're in the CL, Sela can pay more for sponsorship or whatever. Pump in another 50m/year. They'll find ways to pump in money.

PIF as a paper tiger. I've read it all. PIF is a sovereign wealth fund that's regularly topped up with shares of Saudi Aramco, the 2nd best money printer in the world after the Federal Reserve, with assets of more than $1tn. Fenway Sports Group has assets worth - at most - $15bn. They are not in the same stratosphere. We need to chill out a bit and let this play out over 3-5 years.
-
If he was 27, he would be worth 55m. 31 PL goals over the last 2 years in a mid table team. But, he's 29. It's a huge risk. If he's finished in 2 years then it's a massive overpay.
-
Overpay by 20m. It sucks but whatever. It's done. Let's start winning some games.
-
Crunch time. One striker and this will have been a very good window, all things considered.
-
Hall for Burn, Elanga for Murphy, Barnes for Trippier, go back to 4-3-3. Play more open, we’ll score.
-
Botman great. Bruno very poor. Isak scores the Osula chance.
-
That’s embarrassing.
-
I really wouldn’t mind a loan for him now. Keep our options open for next summer.
-
£36m for a 27 year old Nkunku who couldn’t hack it in the Premier League. Prices have shifted upwards.

If we don’t have a lot of prior data, 2 weeks is not a lot of time to do a deep dive on someone like Samu. But, if we get Wissa, we can take a risk with him. Even if we have to spend £60m or £70m, we can shift him later for slightly less if it doesn’t work out. I mean, Chelsea bought Jackson for £32m and now might get £50m for him even though he’s underperformed their expectations. Young players are less risky than before. Someone is always willing to take a risk on them. It would be exciting if we got a young striker to bed in along with Wissa.
-
Elanga £55m Ramsey £40m Thiaw £35m Wissa £35m Isak £125m Longstaff £12m Net £28m. I would like a young £50m striker. It’s a real shame because Pedro for £60m would have been perfect.
