  1. 'What's the worse that can happen?'
  2. You should be thankful that this is happening
  3. Shinawatra's going down Nearly cried when his wife got sentenced. This was only for the smallest of 3 or 4 cases as well, so there's much much more to come for both of them.
  4. It has to be 4-3-3. It maximises the strengths of two of our players (Owen and Martins). In the 4-4-2, Owen becomes the slow has-been who can only score goals off of set-pieces or tap-ins (and he's almost too slow to even get in those positions anymore). Similarly, Martins cannot drop deep and try to run at players because there's no support up front, so the defenders can gang up. So, instead, he has to stay up and play off the last defender's shoulder, which isn't his strength. Play the 4-3-3, let Owen drop deep and attack during the second phase - his movement is top class so not many defenders can keep up, and he rarely loses possession when picking up the ball. Martins is better off roaming on the left hand side as well because most of the time he'll only be marked by one player (their full-back) and he's quicker than most in our league. With regards to our new signings, Jonas has shown that he's strong enough to replace Geremi. He also works hard so he should fit in well. Guthrie is a replacement for Butt and Barton/Zoggy can take the other midfield spot. Sure, that's not the most creative midfield you could put out but we played awesome football and went undefeated against our 'competitors' when we played in a 4-3-3 so why fix something that obviously ain't broke? The 4-2-2 is almost obsolete anyway. Man Utd play an unconventional 4-3-3 with three roaming strikers, Chelsea were best off playing a 4-5-1 (even when Anelka signed), Liverpool played 4-5-1 for large parts of their last season and Arsenal have a billion players roaming around so it's hardly a conventional 4-4-2.
  5. No sentimentality here but I think people are too quick to write-off Given.
  6. Where's the option for him extending his contract because we're so damn good in three years time?
  7. I think KK will improve Milner. He's got the basics down, works hard and he's brave (shows for the ball and isn't afraid to try the difficult pass or take players on). KK's also said that he's the fittest player in the team so he could be the box-to-box midfielder if he can improve his technique.
  8. Why? “The more I watch this ‘Planet Football’ and see the back pages dominate the front pages and people like Coleen McLoughlin - who is just a plain little girl from Liverpool - set up as role models, I think to myself: ‘What the hell is going on?’ Sounds more like a dig at "journalism" than at her specifically. Besides, what has she done that warrants her being made some sort of role model? Don't think I'm going to get into a discussion about the merits of her However, there are far better candidates to have a go at. Has Simon Jordan perhaps singled her out because of who she's married to? There's an irony there somewhere, as well as the irony of some orange faced twat of a chairman of some second rate London club seeing himself as a person /celebrity chairman in a position to be critical of others. Wonder what Bristol City's chairman thinks of Steven Gerrard's wife, or what Doncasters chairman thinks of Danielle Lloyd? Show me where Jordan says/shows that he is 'a person/celebrity chairman in a position to be critical of others'. He's just speaking his mind, and I agree with everything he's said. All his points are valid; and they're not contingent on who he is or what he does. The points would still remain valid even if he was a nobody posting on an internet forum
  9. Charlie or Milner in the center? Hoping it's Charlie, and hoping he plays well.
  10. Good man. I'm pretty comfortable with our signings so far. Ok, Guthrie doesn't exactly get the pulses racing but Gutierrez is someone new and seemingly highly-rated, and the players we've been linked with so far have all been quality (Cuellar, Gomis, Gomez etc.), and because of the noises so far, I'm sure we'll end up with a decent squad come September 1st. Have faith in KK and the board.
  11. http://soulhonky.com/candanny/basketball-2003-allstar-desmond.mason-dunk-lean%5B1%5D.jpg ? Just saw this Desmond Mason is class, though. Never fulfilled his potential, but he's fun to watch.
  12. Oh, please. Aimar's on a different planet to Arshavin when he's at his best. Arshavin's had one good season and a few good matches for his country in the summer whereas Aimar built his reputation as the midfield playmaker for one of the best footballing sides over Europe over 2-4 years. There's no fucking comparison. If we can get Aimar back to his best, there would actually be no stopping us.
  13. If Aimar's not looking for big wages and looking to resurrect his career, then all power to the board. He's a much better player than he's shown over the past season and if KK can reinvigorate him, then we've got a midfielder who's as good as any on his day (and that's not something that you can say about anyone).
  14. What does everyone make of Arsenal's reported interest in Barry? M'ON and Arsene teaming up to make Liverpool pay up?
  15. Whatever, he's signed and he'll get his chance. Here's hoping he does really well.
  16. This is the summer, the agent's just shit-stirring. Wait 'til Charlie starts pre-season, wait 'til he's around KK and getting some games and I'm pretty sure he'll stay. It'll be disappointing if he leaves, no doubt. We know what he can do on his day, and we also know that KK would love a player like that in the team so there's no need to go spending millions on a type of player that we already have. If Charlie knuckles down and works hard, he could take that left center midfield spot from Barton and actually be a goal threat from midfield. He's a whinging, ungrateful cunt, but you don't just give up on players like this. Look at Cristiano last year after Euro '06. He was all up for Real but Fergie said 'nah, you're staying' and that was that. And then look how he played throughout the season. People will always have second thoughts when £££'s concerned but that doesn't mean they can't be convinced to stay. We don't need players who bleed black and white.
  17. Kinhda changed my mind about this signing. Le'ts hope we sign some quality midfielders then we'll rock on from ther.
  18. the season hasnt even begun yet! chill the fouck out, everyone. we'llbe okay. kk's the man.
  19. I don't know where you get this idea that I don't want the club to sign good players Dave. Having watched the club buy mostly shit players, bargains, cheap squad players and fuelling false optimism among supporters, for 30 years, i reckon I know more than most about going down that particular road. This argie may be good, he fills a position we need. Keegan will do a good job, but at the moment my instinct is he will do a good job in spite of the restrictions placed on him, and won't get anywhere near what he did the first time, which is a bit of a damning indictment that you can try and defend if you like. I asked two simple questions. no, it probably isn't. We will be in shit street if it is. But its quality that counts, and won't get anywhere if they aren't quality. Do you think Ashley will match what came before, with the same manager . You would be using fallacious logic if you merely judged the board on how they do with KK in comparison with how the old board did with KK when he was here last. It's a different footballing world now. Times have changed. If he gets us back in the top 4 and maybe win a trophy, I'd say he, and the board, would have matched the accomplishments from 10 years ago.
