Terim is a manager of a club team at present, isn't he? I was pretty certain until i read that.

I like Roy Hodgson my self - he is doing a remarkable job.

no to what ? Speaking of 5 years, Mike Ashley is 2 years into his "plan", which automatically brings success, far better than simply trying to buy good players as they become available, and so keep the ones you alread have happy and try to build on them. So be patient. No to the thread question? Keep up fella yep, I changed it, but you didn't reply to the rest. Keep up lad EDIT: Why are you talking to me about having patience with Ashley, when I've clearly just said I'm not backing him? why are you harping on to me when you have finally realised that he's taking the club nowhere ? I was answering your question. He's carried on taking the club where Fred was taking it. I don't think so. I don't think the Halls and Shepherd would have created a club where our best players all wanted out - 2 of them gone - and did absolutely jack s*** to halt a relegation slide like that which we are in. However, you can carry on ignoring what people other than yourself have seen in the past, and so can see the blindingly obvious - well the ones without their heads up their arse anyway. Well all Leeds players wanted out. The Ridsdale era at it's finest had CL football, players happy, supporters happy, backing their manager and spending. Then BOOM! do you think that Leeds supporters would swap their european games for the last 10 years of a club like, say, Bolton ? I can tell you with absolute certainty that they all loved that time, which goes without saying, just like we did too. You wouldn't swap that for semi-permanent relegation fights would you ? If you do, then stand by, because if we stay up next season will be just like this, and the next, and the next. Success is what football is all about mate, its not about balancing books and being afraid of ambition, its about aiming for success and taking the knocks as well. And - if anybody is taking us down like Leeds and sheffield Wednesday, its Mike Ashley. No one has heard of them since, we have had those times - and we are grateful but it was always going to end bad with Shepherd. Newcastle could of been the new Leeds, we were gambling of getting into Europe each year. Ask a Leeds fan if they would want Ridsdale back. Now what is your argument? that Shepherd is better than Ashley? Well under Ashley we have our club. If the club got relegated we will still be able to survive. Shepherd like it or not was not going to get us back up there. He had expended all possible resources. No point cherry picking Leeds, for being the only side to collapse to such a degree in about 40 year .... still, whatever suits you. Point is that football is about success, if you don't attempt it - being one of the biggest clubs in the country with the 2nd biggest gate until the Emirates opened - you may as well give up. Which appears to be what a lot of people appear to have done. Give up. I don't know why, maybe to try and demean or discredit the only board we had in 50 years that had ambition in keeping with what we ought to have. Ashley is pointing us towards relegation, and administration by the way. Under him, we will never match the Halls and Shepherd's league positions and european qualifications. How many clubs have gone into administration by gambling on league positions. There is so many, Leeds are just the biggest example in England. how many have shown ambition ie gambled, and not gone into administration ? How many clubs have qualified for the champions League and not spent big money [and are now not in debt ?] Man Utd was debt free, profit year on year before the Glaziers took over. The rest spend within there means to compete not taking it to Shepherd levels which were unsustainable. Your right majority of clubs have debt. I don't think anyone has ever argued against that. Those debts are sustainable and these clubs don't gamble on European football league positions like we were. They may gamble on Premier League status but not 6/7th every year...like Leeds also did. We started to under perform. Books were getting old of hand, Shepherd couldn't continue like that. No chairman could. What he tried to do, is the closest we will get for foreseeable future for sure. That's not the point if it continued to fail, we would probably over the course of next 3-5 years be in alot worse situation than we are now. Unsustainable, surely you would agree on that? It's common knowledge we were over spending. Hall saw this and sold up sharpish.

Thats the same with all our kids, never improve. Last young player that improved that i can think of was Bellamy. He was super determined person though. The kids we have now just seem to take everything for granted. -

I prefer to use my own eyes rather than Joe Kinnear's opinion. I'm talking over years rather than months. He was our joint top goal scorer one season weren't he? 2005? -
Why do people persist in saying this, that's all we ever do regardless of the situation, that's all we have done and no doubt will always do. Its a pointless thing to say because it goes without saying surely. So why have you started a thread with 'Are we going to stand for this'?
-
Stupid expectations? What would that be? bring in some bodies to cover our injury crisis? Strengthen? Survival? We aren't demanding European football are we, just improve the team enough to survive.
-
van der Sar? I know he's a broken a record and everything but the number of world class saves I have seen Given make, makes him my number 1. Given Bosingwa Evra Vidic Ferdinand Gerrard Young Lampard Mascherano Anelka Gaby

like you kicked up a fuss when people protested about the board who gave you regular european football for the only time in your life. Morons mackems.gif Yeah, you know, like people who think you can carry on ramping up the credit without ever having to pay the bill. with your usual hindsight, do you still think Ashley is better than the last owner ? Your like a broken record! You always have the same conversations with the same people, avoid the same questions, ask the same questions in every single thread you happen to post on. It's in the past and it's boring. Jeez.

We kept Smith though I hate this 'we tried' stuff. They had well over 30 days. No excuses for deals falling though now. We may as well put a sign up around St James - "Players wanted". That would also classify as trying.
-
He tried, didn't he? Also, on deadline day in our situation, showing intent isn't at the top of our priorities, staying up is. Michael Johnson would have done little to nothing to help us do that, yet now everyone are certain that we're going. Had he signed, I bet you that the tone on the forum would have been completely different. What point are you trying to make? That people are nigh on slicing their wrists, but the very same people would have been very happy if we had signed a player who might not even play any more this season. Dear God. It's not the player, it's the intent. Also, I don't think we would have been in for him if it was unlikely he would play. So, that intent would have kept us up? Doing the bare minimum may keep us up this season but doing this for the next season or two could back fire. Look at the forum now buddy supporters aren't happy, we needed some bodies, we needed player sales to be reinvested. That didn't happen. Whereas showing intent now, surviving (not saying its guarantee), then showing further interest in improving the squad in the summer. Fans more optimistic, happier set of campers. That is why its important.

Had he signed, I bet you that the tone on the forum would have been completely different. No, we needed midfielders. People are sick to death of seeing Butt play and alot (me included) aren't convinced with Nolan. Johnson is a good player, i would say he is better than Guthrie - and i rate Guthrie. When the news was announced I don't remember seeing anyone having a bad reaction to it. I would say Ashley showing intent is a huge thing too - uniting the fans, less believing he is here to 'asset strip'. This failed deal has ONLY incensed those who believed that. I mean why would you negotiate a deal for Given and not ask about the availability or use him as a bargaining tool. Instead you get the money from the sale and then try their luck. Pure incompetence if you ask me.

I wish we now had a soundbite of Ashley going 'judge me on deadline day!' or similar. As to be honest he didn't really promise us s***. It was all JFK promising us with his 'spoken to Mike, he agrees' shizzle. -

Why's he all over the media all of a sudden? He is probably calling out JFK -
That OP is a complete joke. The fact that Ashley would have invested cash into the team would of been a major sign of intent in sorting us out.
-
I wouldn't go so far, but i would like us to 'start again' in the summer. I would like to completely overhaul the team, a lot of players in our starting XI that I simply can not stand. Depresses me when they are picked time and time again, because they 'graft' or 'experience' or has been a 'winner'.
-
"working very hard through January right upto the last minute" "Man City have created a unstable/unrealistic player market" "Clubs were waiting for other transfers to be concluded before they will let us speak to the player. These transfers didn't happen" "Money was there" "JFK identified the targets, pursued them" "Will be identifying players upto summer for a overhaul"

Huh you ignore Spurs why? Also Hull are shooting down the table. West Ham are very weak too! West Ham are near the top of the current form table. just seen. Didn't realise they are doing so well now, they do have weak squad though with Bellamy going. Edited post now -

He never stood a chance, the volume and signings that would have made people praise him was impossible. (Sorry, but it's could have.) You are right (both). The Given sale and then the failed attempt at signing Johnson, showed us their incompetence - it also brings up so many unanswered questions about their motivation for actually strengthening the team.
