  1. A couple!? I can see the ball freakily deflecting in the net from his arse maybe once, but certainly not multiple times..
  2. Van der Sar sets the record for most time without conceding a goal..
  3. Did you just sprout ovaries and start squatting to piss? "Leave Gabby alone .. " Zitty teen goes internet hardman... Good on you!
  4. I don't care what you all say, it's a good read and it describes pretty well how a lot of fans must be feeling at the moment. Supporting Newcastle United used to be fun, now it's more like a drain..
  5. How so? Because the club would have gone into administration if Ashley hadn't said he would keep financing the club it is that bad and even without spending money on transfers the club is still not making a profit, how much more do you want the financial state of the club to be pointed out? Yet people chirp up about how much better we would have been if Shepherd was still here showing ambition by borrowing more money to try and move us up the league, do these people have no grasp on reality? You're such a drama queen. The actual loss in terms of money gone out of the bank account is negligeable (next year when Owen won't be around and will be replaced by someone cheaper we will probably make a profit based on losing his salary alone) and certainly doesn't justify jeopardising our long term future by gambling on the perception that we are too big to go down.
  6. He's paid the debt off. as a loan As opposed to doing what? Genuine question. as opposed to 'putting his hand in his pocket to pay off the debt' something for which most on here praised him. for over a year. probably repeated a thousand times over. people thought that, dont try and reinvent the past to make it look like everyone thought it was a loan from the start. im not criticising Ashley for it but at the same time im not going to praise him as, thus far, we've not had the knock-on effect of the money freed up being used to make us better. He did put his hand into his pocket. The club is his. The holding company is his. The 'loan' is just a technicality. It would be different if were a PLC and he only owned a part because that would be a genuine loan but this is not the same. This is just him putting money from his other accounts into this account which can be equated to him putting money into the club. The key point is also that he has not collected any interest payments for it, so it is just like giving money to the club. I don't know how you can twist it to say something else. You can say that if we get sold, then presumably this money will be included in the price of the club and Ashley will recover it, but right now, he's 'given' us £70m to pay off the debt and sunk a further £30m in to help us get closer to breaking even, which we're still far away from doing. He is entitled to the interest though, and he can claim it whenever he sees fit including for periods in the past he hasn't claimed it for (with interest on top of interest I presume) is the way it has been explained earlier in the thread. Him not taking up the interest now is another technicality that doesn´t mean very much in the real world, just like this "20 million loss" and the "loan" itself.. It seems there are lies, statistics and then financial accounting..
  7. Put it this way; will next year's accounts showing a tidy "profit" of a couple of million be any consolation when we've just lost another Championship match home to Preston North End?
  8. You wouldn't expect to find this thread close to dropping from the front page in the transfer window, hence bump.. Not a very good sign though..
  9. At some point the money has been paid - the paper loss (i.e ammortisation) is just spreading it over a few years. For the most part that would have been pre-Ashley though. Let's face it, he's not exactly spunked loads on new players, has he? It follows suit that in years to come we will make profits on paper (what with the likes of Owen fully written off), but just like paper losses, paper profits don't prevent/allow investment, do they?
  10. Can the financial wizards answer this question: Amortisation being depreciation for intangible assets, does it not serve the purpose to retain profits (if any) to build funds to replace the assets? I.e. are we not purely talking about (for the main part) a paper loss that has very little relevance to the club's bank account and the availability of money for investment if any has been made available?
  11. On the other hand, if we lost that game and there were no new signings or none that are seen as a significant improvement with it being the last day of the transfer window there could be full scale riots..
  12. Oh dear, it's descended into an old board/new board discussion again. The simple facts are the old board fucked up badly at the end of their tenure, and the new board have not been able to buck the trend, far from it even, despite all their talk about competing with the best and moving the club forward. Personally, I am currently more concerned about the lack of ambition shown by our CURRENT owner than by whatever mistakes the old board have made. Those have all been discussed over and over again and don't affect our future; the actions, or lack thereof, of the new board do however, and it's not looking good at the moment..
  13. So we're midway through another transfer window and exactly the same thing is happening, only Kinnear is a lot more vocal towards the press than Keegan and Allardyce used to be. What's interesting is Kinnear used to walk the company line in the press, but in recent days he's become more critical as he now realises he's being taken for a ride just like his predecessors were. Ashley really needs to get his finger out and deal with the structural problems at this club, or relegation is a distinct possibility, and if that happens the buck will stop at him and him only..
  14. We´re privately owned now, so there is no accountability to shareholders anymore, is there?
  15. It wasn't an absolute disaster. Although it didn't end well we also had a few seasons that we could only dream off now..
