It's alright to have that conversation but £12m or whatever they paid isn't really that much of a gamble for a 25 year old striker who scored 18 goals in 23 matches in the Mexican league and 3 in 3 in the WC. Ashley and Pardew have convinced many that £12m is a huge investment, even for Premier League clubs that are literally rolling in money. We won't pay more than about £6m on a striker. Absolutely. It really has been a lesson in propaganda and lowering expectations.

Exactly this. I don't believe for a second that Pardew has no say in who comes in. He obviously has no say when Ashley decides to cash in on our best players, that's what he signed up for, he was brought in as a yes man. But, he was clearly involved in bringing in the players we did this summer. If he had his way we'd be buying mediocre English players rather than foreign bargains just for resale value purposes.
