    Which argument is this?

No it doesn't, not even close. I would say Yes to the poll as it is currently formulated, but would happily see him replaced. Surely you can see what we think will happen and what we want to happen are two different things? Edit: forget to add "lol"

Laudrup has done just as bad at Getafe and Mallorca as Pardew has done here. Difference being the style of football and the prospects for Laudrup which look far more promising than Pardew's whose track record is literally league one/championship stuff at best. Were you not around last season, or did we overachieve despite Pardew rather than (partly) because of him?

5 out of 5 were English, cheap and mediocre (with the possible exception of KK, but he had been out of the game for jonks). It's not beyond the reals of possibility that he would be more adventurous, but neither is it likely. Put it this way, we are far more likely to end up with a Steve Bruce or Martin O'Neill than we are to land your Philippe Montanier, Roberto Martinez or Frank de Boer. No we're not far more likely to get one of them, that's just your opinion. Our last managerial appointment was in December 2010, months after we'd been promoted after Ashley had to give up on selling the club for the last time and a month before the Andy Carroll sale which massively accelerated our change in personnel to highly rated, more technical players. There isn't enough evidence to judge that they'll never appoint a better or foreign manager, not now that they've started getting things right in other areas. You could have said in May 2011 that they'll never sign a Senegalese striker because they never have done before, and you'd have been proven wrong twice in the next 8 months. Not even remotely comparable.. The first part of your post has some meritt. Maybe his entire approach to the club has changed. It would take a massive shift however to release Pardew so soon into his 8 year "stability is key" contract to replace him with a continental manager, which is what most people apparently want due to the lack of suitable UK candidates. I just think they will see it as too much of a risk and aren't willing to lose face by going back on their new approach so soon. Surely you can see that too?

That could be a factor tbf, but he's the chief scout, not the DoF, so it's very doubtful whether he would actually have a voice in the process of assigning a new manager.

It's not the fans who recruit a new manager, it's the owner. What makes you think he would go for something vastly different than what he has done consistently in the past?

Let's have a look at the managers Ashley has appointed since he took owenership of the club: Keegan: English manager with a good pedigree, who had been out of the game and with strong ties to the club. Undermined by his DoF approach. Constructively dismissed to be replaced by... Kinnear: English manager without any pedigree to speak off, who had been out of the game. Enough said. Replaced mid season due to health reasons by... Shearer: emergency replacement. English manager without any relevant experience, and with strong ties to the club. Promised a long contract only to be denied the opportunity to be replaced by... Hughton: promoted from within. English manager without pedigree. Did decent enough, only to be replaced by... Pardew: English manager with decent pedigree at best, whose career had taken a plunge. Cheap. Has overachieved in one season, underachived the next Looking at this track record, what makes people think he would appoint anything other than a cheap, mediocre, English manager if he decides to sack Pardew? Blind hope is what.

I don't think there are many posters who wouldn't want Pardew sacked and replaced by a better manager if presented with that option; we're pretty much all in agreement this season has been a huge disappointment/underachievement. Just some of us don't go overboard with the Pardew criticism to the point of personal abuse or not accepting any mitigating circumstances, and acknowledge it is highly unlucky Ashley will sack Pardew (due to the stability guff they came out with a mere 8 months ago) and replace with a better manager (based on his track record in this area). This bloke has come ridiculously close to relegating us. How much shitter does it have to get? Relegation would set us back years and this bloke very nearly achieved it this year. I'm aware of Ashley's track record of appointing managers but keeping the present incompetent boss purely because his replacement may be even worse is no argument at all. Everyone accepts he's poor. Everyone accepts he's taking the club backwards but some want too keep him. I simply can't agree with the logic of persisting with a bloke who's universally regarded as being a poor manager. I'd rather Ashley rolled the dice tbh. And I agree with you. I'd also rather he did. Even if I don't agree with you it couldn't get worse. He appointed Joe f***ing Kinnear for crying out loud. At least Pardew got us to 5th last season with a team heavily featuring the likes of Simpson, Williamson and Perch among some obviously more talented players. However, as I have argued, it will not happen, as Ashley and Dekka are not prepared to save face so quickly after coming out with one of the longest contracts football has ever seen and presenting it as some sort of role model to rubbish other club's (and our previous owners) models.

Stats don't work in football don't you know? Points are quite important as it happens. Nah, just another stat. Football matches should be decided on aesthetic grounds.

I'm confused. What do people think our main formation has been this season if not a 451/433?
