I've seen plenty of Rafa Benitez to know he will be hounded out by our fans at the first sign of a below par season once they realise his football isn't much better than Pardew's. I reckon Pardew's "not much better" football would be much more popular if it resulted in winning some games every now and then like. Plenty of people suggesting they knew last season, when we were "winning some ganes every now and then" that our football was dire and Pardew was a fraud. Granted, I don't remember there being many actually voicing that opinion. To be fair just went through my posts and both me and Mick especially strongly disagreed with Pardew. Got ridiculed back then but there were some who were voicing their concern. I said as much, and I do indeed remember you two expressing doubts. You were in a small minority though back then, which was my point. I think Dave said it right recently: as a manager you need either results or attractive play to survive. Alas, we currently have neither. And you're questioning a guy who HAS RESULTS vs the guy who currently doesn't and then used the style of play argument against the manager who's won significant trophies in his career and his clubs have finished near the top of the league! Am I missing something in your argument man? If so, total apologies for losing my mind over this. What you are missing is the post that seems to have tipped you over the edge wasn't defending Pardew, it was questioning what people criticising Pardew's style of play and stating as a reason above all others why they want him gone yet advocating Rafa as a good replacement are seeing that I'm not. Ah okay. Results. That's why. Proven winner. Read it again if you don't believe me.

There was a whole thread: http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,91772 A whole thread of slightly over 2 pages that lasted just over a day where some people vented their frustration after a match had not gone our way no doubt? Mass disgruntlement indeed..

Anyway, I'll leave this for the appropriate thread now. Howay Benfica!

Can we leave the Alan Pardew debate out of one thread. I'm actually enjoying watching football. I don't think it's irrelevant when we've played Benfica and looked better suited to combat them than Chelsea on this evidence (first game at the very least) and when people are advocating Rafa as a Pardew replacement because they are sick of his style of football.. Better suited to combat Benfica. We lost 3-1 ffs. This game is currently goalless. Oh right, because Pardew told Cisse to miss those chances and instructed Santon and Saylor to hand them two goals. We looked a far greater threat to Benfica than Chelsea has done so far.

So can any of the Rafa-to-replace-Pardew-please brigade explain to me how his approach to his game and indeed many others (in his time at Chelsea) is in any major way more attacking/adventurous than Pardew's?

Abomination of a stadium..

Benfica just don't want to score here..

Don't most European competition games start at 7:45?

There hasn't been a huge shift in approach and if anything we actually played less long ball football leading up to January than we did after January. Against Man Utd and Arsenal for example, for long spells our football was good, very good. That short shift in approach mainly coincided with the Jan arrivals anyway, but once the dust had settled so to speak, the long ball soon reappeared to the point where we used it a lot, even in Europe. Our football hasn't really improved at all, if anything its worse given the higher calibre of players/more options. http://i41.tinypic.com/2z8c09f.jpg Stop posting facts man, they get well in the way of popular opinion. There's a good boy. Facts. Graphs with no axis labels nor accompanying explanations are now facts!? It's f***ing nonsense man you daft s****. Are you telling me you don't understand the axis values..? A wild stab in the dark here: X for fixtures, Y for number of long balls (in that particular fixture)..
-
I also watch the matches with my own eyes, albeit mostly on the telly, and there is a lot not to like about our style of play, but a hoofball team we are not imho. We do play long balls of course, but so does almost every other team in the league.

2014/15 NUFC Kits - New third kit revealed on page 143
Unbelievable replied to bowlingcrofty's topic in Football
Like! Good thing is Wonga isn't a brand in cloggland, so I'll be having some of that away kit. Much better than the home and third kit, assuming those leaks too are correct.
