All capable of 10+ goals a season. I reckon there's 60+ goals between them. Just to be pedantic , neither Ben Arfa or Sig has scored over 10 in a season. Cabaye has though. Sigursson has done it twice (21 for Reading in 2009-2010, admittedly in the Championship but still, and 10 for Hoffenheim in 2010-2011 in the Bundesliga). Ben Arfa has scored 9 twice and has never had a full season as first choice. I don't think it's far fetched to suggest they are both capable of it.

The original injury would had kept him out for 2-3 months but they also operated on his hip to get to the underlying problems. Are there any success stories of similar injuries and operations that resurrected the player's career? I think we've done the right thing in trying to get it sorted once and for all, but don't know what the chances are it will work out. Although I really like what he can contribute as a player I fear signing him may turn out to be an expensive mistake. On the other hand, we also gambled on Demba Ba in similar fashion and that has turned out wonderfully well so far.

Possibly so, but if I remember correctly that home match vs AZ Alkmaar was one of the better performances in those horrible years. We played them of the park and should have finished it there and then. Going out to AZ Alkmaar in this way and then to Sporting the year after (?) after being 1-0 up over there and needing them to score 3 (with Dyer coming off injured who was brilliant in that particular match) were very hard to take, as I felt on both occasions that we were in with a shout of actually winning a European cup..

Tbf to Roeder, Souness did this more often (with his "Lady Luck" s**** and all that). Also, if I remember correctly we did have an unreal amount of injuries under Roeder. Re: Pardew and not complaining about players missing: he actually refers to this in the LMA interview. Certainly one of his strengths.

Whilst I agree we could do with a promising young striker, I don't think it's the only position where we don't have a youngster on the fringes. We have Nile Ranger (I know) and Sammy Ameobi (I know) who could be classified as such. Centre back is where we are really thin on the ground when it comes to players who could be developed into future first team players.

Also, we need more than defensive squad depth; we need a quality centre back and a quality full back to really have top 6 quality all over the pitch. That said, I would love to see Sigurdsson come here if the price is right. I think he would compliment Tiote and Cabaye quite well and provide the goals from midfield as well as a threat from set pieces that could make us an even more dangerous team going forward.

Agreed. Maybe he'll have a clause in his contract. What sort of player is Sigurdsson anyway? Aside from Newcastle games I've seen f*** all football these last few months, only time I've seen Sigurdsson was when we bummed them. Brendan Rogers has likened him to Frank Lampard, and I can see where he's coming from. A strong attacking midfield player with an eye for goal.
