Well I could be wrong but to me the shade of blue and its shine is a nod to 98/99, which also had a very faint striped texture/weave, though it was horizontal in that case. The subtle 'pinstripe' effect could be a nod to that or - heavens above - something original. Meanwhile you've got the badge and the green aspects reflecting 97/98. Obviously the orange is consistent across both.

I think it's intended as a blend of the two away kits; 97/98 and 98/99, hence the shiny blue and the no double-stripe.

That navy and orange pops beautifully, like. Might pop myself if it's orange numbers. Bit of a joke the long sleevers can't be a single garment, mind.

I like it quite a bit; can see myself getting it when it's cheaper nearer to the end of next season. The Noon patch is an awful clash with the orange but you've just got to accept that now. The gap on the long sleeves looks utterly stupid, but I love the base colour and that pinstripe texture, and the collar/cuff detail is really nice. Generally a hit for me. Orange numbers will seal the deal. 🤞

I'm not sure 'imagination' should be a characteristic of major purchases. If you're equating 'imagination' to 'where the player currently plays football', then it contradicts the need to identify players who represent a guarantee of success. We can't afford to gamble, basically, and the players most likely to guarantee a success are already in the Premier League. That's also why they're expensive. Save imagination for the development squad.
