  2. just read on the official site Robinho a doubt for the game (carried off on a stretcher). Whilst I`d love to see all the top name players on the pitch at SJP it can only be a good thing if he`s out

  5. Mallorca launch Gutiérrez fee claim Oct 16 2008 by Luke Edwards, The Journal NEWCASTLE United could still have to pay as much as £8m for Argentinian winger Jonás Gutiérrez after his former club Real Mallorca launched a legal challenge against his summer move to the Premier League. Gutiérrez’s switch to Newcastle has whipped up a storm of controversy in Spain as both Mallorca and Argentina side Velez Sarsfield claimed to hold the player’s registration and both insisted they were owed a fee by the Magpies. However, United officials have refused to pay either club as they believe the winger was a free agent when they signed him after he walked away from his contract with the La Liga side to facilitate the move. This has been hotly contested by Mallorca who rejected an £8m offer for the player from Portsmouth back in January and who insist they should have received a similar fee in compensation from Newcastle when Gutiérrez engineered his move to England. According to Gutiérrez, he was entitled to negotiate his own transfer without Mallorca’s permission as he had taken advantage of Fifa’s Article 17 – commonly known as the Webster ruling after the test case involving the Hearts defender Andy Webster – which enables players under the age of 28 to buy themselves out of a contract three years after the deal was signed. The Argentina international, who is set to return for Newcastle against Manchester City on Monday night following his recovery from a broken collarbone, had moved to Mallorca in 2005 after winning the title with Sarsfield. That Fifa ruling, however, has not stopped Mallorca from pursuing their claim for compensation and a court date has been set by a judge for February. The case will be heard in Spain and, if successful, Newcastle will be forced to find the money. Mallorca’s lawyer Vicente Morales said: “Newcastle are responsible. Newcastle have signed Jonas without paying a Euro.” The prospect of such a court ruling might be a hindrance to the Magpies should they attempt to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window, whoever is in control of the club. Present owner Mike Ashley has privately indicated he will not provide any money to invest in the team in the New Year, although he may well be forced to if he has not found a buyer willing to match his £300m asking price. Despite the Magpies’ spirited comeback against Everton, they remain in the bottom three and the squad still looks short in several key departments, most notably in defence. Ashley is keen to sell, but he will also realise he needs to ensure he is not left trying to sell a club which is in danger of suffering the financial disaster of relegation to the Championship. Should a takeover deal be completed before then, the new owners will also need to be aware of the potential added cost of Mallorca’s compensation claim.

  11. we are short of keepers like --- A number of Premier League clubs are looking to open talks with German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in January, skysports.com understands. The 28-year-old is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in Germany and is on the verge of an international call-up. Borussia Dortmund are desperate to hand Weidenfeller a new long-term contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season. However, the former Kaiserslautern shot-stopper is set to take advantage of the fact that he is free to talk to rival clubs in January. Dortmund have offered Weidenfeller a three-year deal - but with clubs from England and Italy showing an interest, he could be set to depart his homeland. A number of English scouts have been in attendance at the Signal Iduna Park in recent weeks and have been impressed with that they have seen and the fact he will be a free transfer next summer is sure to appeal. German sources have claimed the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Newcastle are amongst those interested. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_4340301,00.html

  13. Gutierrez hoping to face Brazil ace Robinho Oct 15 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle ARGENTINE star Jonas Gutierrez says he is relishing a potential encounter with his fellow South American Robinho if he is fit to face Manchester City next week. The flying winger is hoping to make his return from a troublesome shoulder picked up on international duty with his country in the game with Belarus, and is expected to wear a support cast during his comeback. Gutierrez, of course, knows all about the threat of Robinho after playing against the star during clashes between Brazil and Argentina in one of the most hostile encounters in world football. But he has warned that United must not put too much emphasis on the samba factor. He said today: “Robinho is just one player and one player does not make a team. “He is a world-class performer. But we have to focus on our big-name players. “We can’t stand in awe of one player.” Gutierrez made a sparkling start to his Newcastle career with a great performance at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season against Manchester United. Now, though, after not appearing in a black-and-white shirt since Kevin Keegan’s last game at Arsenal, the former Real Mallorca star is keen to get back as soon as possible. He added: “I hope I will be fit for Manchester City. “If not, I definitely expect to be back for Sunderland. “I loved working with Kevin Keegan, but working with Joe Kinnear is also good. “He is different, but in a good way. “Now I just want to get back playing again after my injury.” Gutierrez is back in training after his long lay off and has been joined in recent days by Habib Beye, Oba Martins, Andy Carroll and Hungarian youngster Tamas Kadar who have all bolstered the United squad.
  14. Xisco ready to stake his claim in NUFC shirt Oct 15 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United striker Xisco has vowed to have the Toon Army shouting his name by grabbing his chance under Joe Kinnear with both hands. The £5.7m man arrived on Tyneside just before the storm which erupted following Kevin Keegan’s departure. Xisco was one of the signings of former transfer chief Tony Jimenez – and one of the straws that broke the camel’s back for Keegan. The Majorca-born player netted a goal against Hull City on his Newcastle debut in the infamous 2-1 loss, but has failed to register since. Yet although Kinnear has been working one on one with Shola Ameobi, it is understood that both Ameobi and Xisco will be handed their chance by the interim boss. And Xisco, who was on target for the Spanish Under-21 side in their 3-1 extra-time European Championship play-off victory over Switzerland last night, has revealed he is determined to take it. “I will get better and I will take my chance when it comes,” said Xisco, whose goal helped secure a 4-3 aggregate win for the Under-21s and a place in next year’s finals. “Things always get better after more training and more games. And I hope that is the case at Newcastle. “You always need to become more familiar with people when you arrive at a new club.” Still just 22, Xisco had a respectable strike-rate of 12 goals in 44 games for Deportivo la Coruna, but there is clearly room for improvement for the burly striker. And his 6ft 3in frame could be tailor-made for the sometimes brutal nature of the Premier League. The former La Liga hit-man says: “Football is different in Spain, but I think I can adapt fast. “I wanted to come and play in the Premier League because it is a big league. Along with La Liga, it is the strongest league in the world. “Most players who have the opportunity to come here do so. “And I just want to take my chance.” Xisco goes into the mix for the game with Manchester City next Monday with Owen and Ameobi, but winger Damien Duff switched to a more central role for the trip to Everton in United’s last outing. Duff netted the equaliser that afternoon, but Kinnear is likely to switch to a more offensive formation at St James’s Park. And with Oba Martins, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith all injured, he is in the box seat to stake his claim. Speaking on the possibility of linking up with former Real Madrid star Owen, he added: “I think we can play together. “Of course we are different players on the pitch, but I think the combination is good. It is one that can work.”
  15. I'm happy and here to stay - Gutiérrez JONÁS Gutiérrez has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to Newcastle United as he aims to recapture the momentum that made him an instant Premier League hit. Having recovered from a broken shoulder bone suffered on international duty, the Argentina winger has handed Joe Kinnear a huge boost by declaring himself fit and available for Monday’s visit of Manchester City to St James’s Park. Gutiérrez’s attacking invention was a key factor in United’s promising start to the season, and he has been a frustrated observer as the club’s campaign has imploded since the controversial departure of Kevin Keegan. But despite the turmoil that has embroiled the club since Gutierrez was ruled out with injury, the winger insists he has no regrets about swapping Spain for St James’s Park. And while he admits to “shock” at the departure of the manager who helped him to settle quickly in English football, Gutiérrez has been impressed by the way Joe Kinnear has steadied the ship since being appointed interim manager a month ago. “I do not regret moving here to Newcastle at all,” he said. “It was a surprise what happened with Kevin Keegan and I was sad to see him go. The results were going well so it was surprise that the manager left but we are players and we must play well for Joe now. “I like Joe, he is a good manager and I think he will help us to get out of the bottom three. We should not be there because we are a better team than that. We shouldn’t think about the past, we have to think about the future and getting up the Premier League table. “I have only thought about football since I have been here. I don’t really understand what has happened at the club and it is difficult to talk about it. I prefer to only think about the football and nothing more, because I do not know about the reasons for the changes. “I am enjoying it very much. I love the city, I love the place and it is ideal for me. I know that I have come to a big team and I want to be here for a long time.” Gutiérrez admits to having to read up on his new boss after Kinnear was appointed, but initial impressions of the former Wimbledon manager have been wholly positive. Indeed, the former Real Mallorca midfielder has hinted that handing the interim boss a contract until the end of the season would be a popular move in the United dressing room. “I think he is a great boss. We have to listen to him, to do what he wants and to be with him as long as he is here,” he said. “We don’t know what will happen but for us it would be very good if we had a manager until the end of the season. It’s good for the team to have a manager that will finish the season but we don’t know what will happen. What I have to do is play football and play as well as I can for the manager that we have now.” After the frustration of suffering an injury after just a handful of games for United, Gutiérrez is delighted to be making his return in front of his own supporter at St James’s Park. “I have been made to feel very welcome by the supporters,” he said. “They are very important for us – we need them to be with us. “I have said that since I’ve been here the fans are fantastic – we go to Manchester, they are there and wherever we go they are there. It has been frustrating and it is even worse when you have just started with a football club. But it happened and I am thinking only about the future now. I just want to play again and hopefully I won’t have another problem like this.”

  20. Indeed and it was a huge shame he couldn't really capitalise on what his predecessor had left him. we only needed 2 decent centre halves, not a dismantling of the whole fkin squad!!
  21. Ruud Gullit feels for Newcastle United's fans over the current state at the club. He told Setanta: “It’s unbelievable, it is a mess. “It’s not a surprise, not so much. It is very difficult, I love the fans, the fans are great, I love the people there. "I don’t think they have too much expectations, they just want a bit of success at the club, and they want to be part of their club. In the last year there have been more downs than ups so I hope that they will come back to a level that is acceptable for the fans." When asked if he would consider returning to the club, Gullit replied: “I don’t know! I loved it there, the crowd were really good. “But now it is too unstable at the moment for any coach, you don’t know what will happen, so everyone is leaning backwards and to see what is going to happen in a couple of months.”
  22. Obviously, there is a great difference between his personal fortune and the value of his companies. Two completely different things. With his type of wealth.. he could ride the crisis... I dont believe he places everything in one basket. ------------- Roman Abramovich's spokesman has played down suggestions that the Chelsea owner has fallen victim to the global economic downturn. Stock markets around the world have taken a pounding this week, while commodities and property have also slipped markedly in value and it has been suggested that Abramovich has taken a £12 billion hit. The Russian has bankrolled Chelsea since taking the helm in 2003 and it would appear it is business as usual, as talk of a £12 billion loss is ‘misleading’. A spokesman for Abramovich has insisted his considerable cash and property assets remain unaffected, while exposure to the stock market has been put down as a ‘paper loss’. ”The figure is just arbitrary as those you see in Forbes every year and we don’t put any stock to them,” Abramovich’s spokesman John Mann told The Telegraph.
  23. it wasn`t the keeper Julio Cesar......it was Kleber
