Well in fairness, much of what was on offer felt like doing time... A genuinely concerning thought this - have we actually ended up with exactly what we wanted - an owner who thinks like the fans - only for us to realise too late the dangers inherent in this situation... OK, so maybe what's bothering me now is the thought that we've ended up with the tyranny of the masses ruling the Owner and the Chairman's heads (except in this case, for the "masses" read the "You Don't Know What You're Doing Chanting Mongs"...) Be careful what you wish for... This latest episode could be truly epoch-defining for the club...and not necessarily in a positive way. The sad thing is this little episode of flirting with Nappy has probably undermined further our chances of getting a quality manager. I mean it doesn't breed confidence in a prospective candidate when you combine the timing of the sacking and the failed chase for a replacement.

I think I've already said this is the wrong time, too soon or too late. Like you I have no idea what was behind the sacking, your guess above could be right, it could also be wrong. In reality, I do think something has triggered the sacking and it may be for the reason you've mentioned, we'll have to wait and see. If that was the case then they haven't had a lot of time to sound possible candidates out. God I'm so kind even giving Mort the perfect get out clause.

If the next manager is a success I'll not give Redknapp a second thought. I think they sacked Allardyce because they supported a manager that they hadn't chosen themselves but wanted to give him the opportunity to show what he could do. The football was shite and the results were just as bad so they made a decision to get rid of him, a decision which has probably been made at the wrong time due to the transfer window firstly and managers being mid-season secondly. Did you expect a lawyer chairman to tap somebody up? I didn't. But of course if this is clearly the wrong time it makes one wonder how much of it was a sacking or a disagreement. Perhaps big Sam and Mort had a 'back or sack' moment? There is no way this could have been their real strategy ie sack SA mid window and then make 11th hr phone calls to Nappy with (in their minds) an offer he couldn't refuse. Which he has. Which means he wasn't sounded out even at the g g's. lol.

The timing is poor, the new person will not have much time to put things right with the team and we might end up going for players in panic mode. Sounds like a fiasco to me Mickey boy.
-
Fair points all of them. I just wonder if the zero sum game might be wait four months and get a high quality candidate by using time and thought and all appropriate channels or get a reasonable man now. I'd be happy to wait. Realise most won't go for this.

I don't see how they've failed this "test" yet as we haven't appointed anybody yet. They've sacked him without having heard positive noises from the man they wanted. Never get rid of a bloke without a replacement lined up, or a significant length of time free to find one. Middle of the transfer window is madness. Yup.

Season ticket sales are an issue. But not if we show competance and put a quality manager in place in the summer. Surely if we wait until the summer then we'd have to see what changes there were after Euro 2008, a tournament which I assume won't finish until the very end of June, which will already see over 6 weeks of the summer pass. I'd just worry about how much further we could fall behind between now and then without a "proper" manager in place. A lot of the support isn't far-sighted enough to take the approach you're suggesting, and if the Pearson/Round caretaker thing was put into effect I could see the fanbase being as disillusioned as at any time under Shepherd. It would be catastrophic unless it was done with the like of Mourinho publically agreeing/privately signing a contract to come and manage us next season. Even then, the rest of this season would be practically worthless. Good post. I was thinking of using the time from now untill the summer to properly and clearly weigh up all options and take advice privately. To put in place a strategy all understand top to bottom and perhaps this reality check will be of some benefit after all. What I wouldn't want to see is us scurrying around calling all and sundry...''Fancy a job'' style...That would really be detrimental to morale and out long term corporate footprint.

This is a real test hence the thread title...all the other stuff is workaday...

What £100M? http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=48562.0 The 100m would be for the new manger clearly. It's clear they haven't thought this through....Just an idea it might be better to do it properly like a proper club in the summer. I'm asking for water to be turned to wine. Just a thought.

Cause they would know who we are hiring in the summer or what? Because the club is a mockery ....it was nearly a 'mockney'. Bassline give me a bassline...

Please turn the opera off. lol Funny though...

till the summer and do this properly?

Post of the thread. This can't be happening. It's mad isnt it, I'm completely shocked to be honest. Lets just hope this is a blessing in disguise. Surely noone will want the job in england after having 'Arry turn the job down. This surely leaves us with only a foreign option. I've popped a couple of cowboy hats in the post for Mort and Ashers.
-
They will probably go for Hughes now. Ashley knows Hughes and likes him. *Mort hides cockney phrase book*

....till the summer. blueyes.gif

I'm not sure if this 'first choice' thing is true. I agree that the media has represented as such but I can't help but feel this is a bit of misdirection, in a way - and that things have been happening in other areas at the same time. Not a big 'smokescreen' as such, it's just I'm not sure how a manager can be first choice until he's been sounded out properly, which would apply to other potential candidates too. Welcome to the bitchin smokers corner in the dinning car. I'm not celebrating Nappy isn't coming as it has revealed the scenario is actully worse than I suspected. SA was sacked without a replacement onboard. The only hope now is that we have 'talked' to 'others'. It's clueless isn't it? It looks like this is how it went: * Ashley on phone to Mort * "I've had it with that fucking wosname Chris. I was at the match and I was getting slagged left right and centre, I had to get Big Phil to give 'em a dig to keep 'em quiet. I want him sacked." * Spluttering noises on the line * "But Mike, we're in the middle of the transfer window, we've got no replacement, it'll cost a fortune....." "Chris, Chris, remember 'He who dares wins' eh, eh, eh? How difficult can it be? Lots of good managers around. Like that old red faced bloke, you know the one, old thingy, mulla'd us at our place." "Harry Redknapp?" "Probably. Anyways, I want him sacked. Now. He'd better be gone when I get back. Gottagochow" "But Mike, we'll get murdered in the press. Mike. Mike? Hello? Hello? Oh, shit" That is exactly how it went. Throw in sushi bar noises in background.

We haven't spoken to him yet. The big idea was Nappy. lol
