With all the work he put in helping develop Clairefontaine I think Houllier would be perfect for the criteria the club have set. I can see him running the club and Shearer taking charge on the training ground everyday, that's if they work together that is. But what about the style of play?! Did you guys not watch Houllier's Liverpool team?! Houllier's Lyon looked brilliant though. So Houillers Liverpool won the Champions league, Benitez inherited that? Err no... Lyon won the league for 3 or 4 seasons prior to Houllier's arrival, by some stretch. He inherited a title winning team. Benitez did not inherit a team that had previously won the champions league! no. Le Guen's Lyon looked brilliant and Houllier inherited that. But it was Houllier who got them in the Champions League in the first place, apart from Luis Garcia and Alonso the team that won it were all there under him. And Benny fucked up selling thier one unpredictable player Garcia imo. Now they've got Kuyt (running in treacle) and missing the target instead.

So that's is this window fucked.

Haven't Owen and Houllier got issues....?

I would be fine with that. What bothered me was all this Shearer (on his own) as manager lark. Houllier is a bit of an old codger and his indepth knowledge should top up Shearer's clueless bonce. Its perfect, even the two styles should blend together nicely. The KK/AS combo had a major problem, i just felt there wasn't too much KK could offer to the equation for Shearer, however what KK could do for the fans is unmeasurable. This works a lot better imo. ...and when Houllier is ultimately hounded out we can slip Shearer in.

Get him in! This is the problem with not having a manager.
-
Come on!! You think it's Shearer?
-
I think we'll be alright with this appointment.

He looks a bit insular now to me. One or two things have gone wrong for him and he is one of those people that losing eats away at them. Also I think he'd have a hard time now as the game has moved on in many ways. Even the likes of AF has had to bring in Quiroz to bounce ideas off and show the way sometimes. The trick is to find the new KK and imo Klinsmann has a very similar persona...Too late now.

Blasphemy. You just wait 'til ToonAmy sees this and there'll be a fatwa* (*or Christian equivalent) on your arse... Lynching?

This little plan could come together after all.

How must it be for Ashley? Standing as he must alone in crowds. Alien accents and boistrous chants. Expectations listing and heaving from end to end with hope and desire. I say he is a lucky man, I say he is within touching distance of legend and all those other things that one whispers to a close friend when drunk - as if it all makes sense. This is your moment Mike....Take it! What you do tommorrow will echo through time and history. We are with you.

Is it really that bad? I can see where all sides are coming from but I can't help but feel some people like the guy above are going a little OTT about this. The guy hasn't been anywhere near football for years now. Suddenly he's the favourite to be appointed manager? Sounds like madness to me. ...and people wonder why the club is fucked. No other club would even contemplate it.
-
Not sure it's going to be as easy as just choosing Keegan or Shearer if all else fails. They will want guarantees for spend in the transfer market and I'm not sure Ashley and Mort (bring money in before we spend) is going to be that easily swayed. 10 or 20m net won't do it.
-
I don't think he needs to hit the ground running at all. He'd make it to next season barring a huge relegation struggle. That's a good 4/5 months to get comfortable without loads of pressure. We've missed the European boat already. From there he'll take off. Really? And what if he lost 4 of his first 5 games which he could quite easily do. You know as well as I do fans have little patience left for this anymore, just look at how restless they grew under Sam who actually has a better record than Hughes. No, in my opinion there are only two types of manager who fans will be willing to be patient with and that's an absolute top drawer manager or someone like a KK or Shearer. Remember, fans are of the mentality that if we are to sack Big Sam, then it better be for a much better manager. Now that he has gone, Redknapp and Hughes do not inspire or shout out "much better". I think things could get nasty I really do. No-one has the stomach for "he needs more time and money" anymore. Souness, Roeder, Big Sam and Hughes? Same old same old... This is partly where Mort has failed. The fans became too big a part of the equation and the panick button has been hit 4 months early imo.

Might be the best one at this moment.
