  1. We wouldn't have been relegated or been close to it this season. There are too many hopeless sides below us. We're 11th ffs!! People don't need the to create a spectre of relegation to justify this and if they do then it shows we are collectively grasping at straws to make ourselves feel better at what we clearly see as fundamental failure of judgement. Part of the longer term problem now will be is that it is clear that that the role of the owner is too blurred with the safety net of an independant thinking chairman. Regardless of how Redknapp performs I see no due dilligence in this. We're 11th and 9 points above the relegation zone, out of the 10 teams above us we still have to play away to 7 of them, I don't think we would have got relegated but I could of seen us finishing the season than less points than we did under Roeder, Allardyce had lost the fans and was blaming the players, his time at Newcastle was over yet people were still demanding that he gets backed with money in January. Perhaps the people who thought we could attract the likes of Mourinho have just had a long overdue reality check. It's hilarious that you don't admit that given time and due dilligence we can't attract a quality manager.
  2. Why then has there not been a statement denying the Harry rumous as there already has been saying Shearer will not be considered? I don't expect an answer btw.

Like Derby for instance. And the mighty Wigan. Now only if we could take points off them! Are you happy at how this change in manager has been handled? The timing? The cost? The lack of ambition? Happy? No. Do I feel it was necessary? Yes. Just like many of you felt Sam needed time to do things his way, why shouldn't Ashley be granted that same privilege? Ashley's first test should be assessed on the next managerial appointment. Who that is, remains to be seen, of course. He's in Hong Kong.
  4. Which part of this is the definition of failure? Surely this can only be defined with hindsight? Unless this process delivers a world class manager it is a total faiure in communications of what we are as a club and what we are about regarding long term goals and how we want to work and build.
  5. Excelllent post and surely one of the key indicies that has led to a grotesque lapse in judgement which will echo in all our professional dealing for seasons to come. Who in all reality would want to work with us now?

  8. Unless they pull a 'big rabbit' out of the hat this fiasco is an abject failure of reason, common sense and sorely lacks any clear judgement. It smacks of a child who can't wait till christmas day to open his presents.
  9. If there was a simmering discontent with Sammy Dice at the highest level and doubts had begun to be voiced, especially within the context of the growing evidence of supporter disenchantment with performances, would it not have been better to wait till the summer? If as it seems Ashley was growing impatient to stamp his mark on the club, shouldn't he (with no football background and scant knowledge) have held fire till a longer period of deliberation and discussion was available ie the summer. A time when many more managers get itchy feet, get fired, or end associations with national teams. Wouldn't the wisest move in all reality have been to take stock and canvass opionion from experts, contacts, agents and friends during the summer break? Pick a man from a shortlist carefully assembled, perhaps a world class or international class manager. What exactly is the driving force behind this farce? Please help me.
  10. In fairness, yes you could ...if it said he was getting a Royal Navy nuclear sub to work (and I believe that was offerred as an alternaltive) then you might have a point.
  11. The horse racing mafia have taken over the club with private jets and helicopters in tow incase they have to play the odd game.
  12. Offerring Redknapp a private jet to work....How fucking mad is that? Seriously you couldn't make it up.
  13. That's harsh man and not fair at all. Harry has shown this season that if he gets enough good players together he can have them performing at a high enough level to have some success. In my opinion the only thing that team lacks is a real goalscorer. Had they succeeded in signing anelka or Yakubu in the summer they would have been a very serious threat to the top 4. People say he's a side step, but I would appreciate something more concrete. What exactly do you think he does poorly. All I see is a manager who manages players well, does well in the transfer market, and now having assembled a decent team is actually having some success with them. So what are his specific flaws? We easily pointed out Allardyces, what are Redknapps? TBh Harry hasn't shown anything in hiw whole carrer I'm remotely interested in. Got west ham to europe. nurtered young talent such as defoe, cole and lampard. Avoid relegation. Can spot a bargain, knows how to use a transfer window. Not afraid to gamble on a foreign player Is ths seriously the criteria?

If by the time you are 60 you can't spot the odd player and know how to manage player expectations and needs then your'e not trying. Nothing he does is ground breaking. He might be slightly better than SA in some aspects, but is this what all this was really about?? I'm astounded. If it is him I wish him the best, but really will never understand this move.
  15. Barring the £6m on Nugent, the rest has been very well spent. (£7m Muntari, £7m Utaka, £2m Diop, £3m Johnson, Distin Free...) He only spent £3m more than Allardyce, and before we get the "ooh, but the net spend blah blah", he didn't have big saleable assets to sell in the first place in the way we could get in £12m from Parker & Dyer. and at least redknapp cottoned on to the fact that nugent was shite very early on, allardyce meanwhile thinks smith is captain material after half a season of shite. i'm far happier with redknapp getting a warchest than i would be about allardyce getting the same. Nice to see you warming to the idea, Johnny. What do you think Baggio about the whole thing? I'm quite happy about it, like everyone else I'd have preferred someone like Mourinho but I knew realistically it wasn't going to happen. I think Allardyce has been a dead man walking since the takeover, they gave him a chance to show he deserved the job and I think they would have backed him if he'd done better, the football he's had us playing has been terrible though and at times it looked like he wanted the sack with some of his bizarre decisions. I'm optimistic not just because we've got Redknapp, but because Ashley has got his own man and I think the club will move on from here, I think Kaka made a good point about Ashley telling Redknapp to get the team playing as entertaining football as he can and I think he'll do that, with money behind him I think he can put together a team to match Sir Bobby's for entertainment. He's bought a lot of physically dominant players with plenty of pace at Pompey, the sort that can play the shit teams off the park and boss the better teams about too, he's also got the balance right throughout which is something Allardyce never looked like doing here, his team play alot like Villa but are more physically impressive with their size and strength. As I've said a few times tonight, I can see him proving a few people wrong on here, he'll get my support. Good post. Feel the same, its why i asked, one of the more level headed posts flying about ATM. It's possible to be very disappointed but not foaming at the mouth though. Baggio/Kaka, I don't think many are saying categorically Harry will fail. What is being said that the timing is suspect and the lack of ambition is clear.
  16. blueyes.gif blueyes.gif not what i wanted at all and while the justification for his appointment should be doubted there are some positives to having redknapp. Like the positives that people saw when we appointed Allaryce? Better organisation of the team, better backroom staff, better fitness, yadda this yadda that. No thanks, Harry, you're just like Allardyce/Hughes/Moyes etc.. so stay away. dont see anything wrong with the positives people saw in allardyce, imo they're entirely valid. but he also came with some other qualities that people didn't exactly appreciate, or elements that we didn't know about until we'd had to live with him and his football for months on end. i was pretty supportive of allardyce based on the limited stuff i knew about his record at bolton and he suited our need for a period of fiscal conservatism, along with how much our club needed to be sorted out behind the scenes. but when ashley came in the situation changed and as his flaws became more prominent he lost my support. at the moment, if it is redknapp, he'll have my backing initially. he is a decent manager, far better than souness or roeder, and about the same level of effectiveness as allardyce and there are some definite strengths he possesses. i'm upset about the manner of allardyce's departure and the fact we've gone through all this fuss and upheavel to appoint a manager who is little if any improvement but that is an issue to take up with the mort and ashley who i'm disappointed in. redknapp himself isn't responsible for that tho so until he starts messing up he has my support. ...not even that we've in all reality just appointed his mates mate...SA deserved at least one full season and the summer is the time to have a good think, not spend £10m on changing managers mid-stream. Clueless.
  17. You see what's happening in this thread is classic displacement thinking from the likes of Kaka (not you personally) and others. Which is 'we're not over the moon about Redknapp but hey he might get to buy some players we like'... Seriously what is the fucking point?

Exactly. And whoever said D'Alessandro before, could see that happening now. if he can get d'alessandro for pompey i'd expect to see him buy even better for us. muntari was an absolute coup for them considering the clubs that were sniffing round him, man utd, juventus, milan and so on and i could see us signing players on that calibre on a regular basis if he comes. The signings and man management are his strongest suit imo.
  19. If it is redface then I think it is fair play to question MA's judgement. But lets not get the guns out till it's confirmed.

    If it's Redknapp?

This is a fear I've been harbouring for some time.
