The bet is only for Parky. I'm trying to test his optimism. No matter who you appoint (and we knew this would be the case, and were proved right, when we appointed God's man on earth last summer), next season will be about getting the club in the shape he wants it, and consolidation. It'll take time. Possibly forever if he doesn't make shipping out garbage like Bramble, Ramage and Carr, shirking piss takers like Dyer and Duff, and underachievers like Emre and Parker his first priority. Ok £50 it is. OK, you're on. The Bonk shall be our witness. My word is my bond sweetie. Should be fun. Paypal, cheque or cash is fine, in case you were wondering. I'd rather wire it from the expense account.

Any logic behind that or just taking a wild guess? If it's wrong tell us why.

I've just done the calculations, and can confirm that if positions stay the same, we are now JOINT with Villa for the prestigious accolade of 5th best club over the last decade. Should Villa's position improve or ours worsten on the last day of the season, then I'm sorry to have to report that Villa will take on this important mantle, and NE5 will have to revise his copy and paste posts to reflect this change. Ours and Villa's average position over the last 10 seasons is 9.4. Something to be proud of, I'm sure you'll agree. On average we finish outside of the European spots, and barely in the top 10. How's that for positive, Parky? You can do better. blueyes.gif

YOu've forgotten one important thing... Happy Harry is in charge.

A bottle of Bollinger on its way courtesy of Parky Industries. There isn't that much between us and Spurs and they have been at optimum setup for nearly two season now. That tells me enough I need to know. Pompey. mackems.gif Get outta here!!

We got to 7th under Roeder with a totally demoralised side in danger of relegation. There is no reason we can't challenge for top 4 next year. Yeah, fair enough. I suppose I was just assuming that we're going to have a couple years of rebuilding ahead of us. All this stuff about re-building is oft regurgitated on here and yes it has its place....Tell me how much rebuilding had Pompey done when they were 4th in the first 1/3 of the season? None. That means nothing, tbh. We were 3rd at one point and hovered around places 3-6 for a while, it means nish. The only thing that matters is the place at the end of the season. FWIW, the top four are light years ahead of the likes of Villa, Newcastle, Everton. Spurs are closest to catching up, but i reckon it is going to take one of the top four to actively screw up and drop out as much as it is about another team stepping up. I honestly don't see the cause for thinking Newcastle are the best placed to challenge, seems like boundless optimism to me. Certainly compared to, say, Spurs (much as i dislike the idea of bigging up Spurs), when you're on course for a bottom half of the table finish. ....and what would happen if Ronaldo or Henry or Drogba we're missing all next season? Ring any bells?

Wont happen 100% sure. Especially Arsenal finishing 1st.They will be lucky to be in the top 4 next season.Remember my word. It will be something like this: Chelsea Man Utd Liverpool Spurs Arsenal Everton Newcastle West Ham Portsmouth Villa Bolton If you think we'll finish under Everton and Spurs with Big Sam you are off your head. Right now we have no manager! Like all season then. mackems.gif mackems.gif mackems.gif SAD BUT SO TRUE Looking at this thred anyone would think I was saying Prince and Jacko will return with No.1 albums.

Anything to say about your own club? There is alot to say, too much probably atm..I wanted Berbatov for Newcastle after that we got Owen, And at this moment Berbatov would of been too god for us also. He deserves to be in Championsleague... Owen is the best finisher in the PL.

Is there really nobody on here that can take some positives about our present situation? Or am I asking for a full lobotomy?

I expected Spurs to give a bigger challenge this year and yes they are building something. Spurs are deffo candidates to take on Arsenal next year. Yet we've played a whole season with half a strike force and almost no quality defenders with a poor manager. Spurs will finish only 14 points ahead of us. As I said in my FIRST POST 3/4 wins. Even just having Owen would have got us that. blueyes.gif

We beat Liverpool, drew some and got generally raped in the other games. Its a myth we done well against the top 4. It's a bigger myth that this club is fucked.
-
We beat top four sides this year with the blind leading the blind. Is there anybody on this board that can take some postives for us?

Agreed Spurs in all reality are our nearest competition for top 4 challenge next year.

Crystal ball? Come on Skirge what are our positives?

I think O'Neil is twice the manager Allardyce is tbh. Cobblers he's not even better than Jol.

aye, not dreary enough by far, as you say in your next post parky. Fact is, the clubs with the best managers - and the backing of their boards - will be the top 4, it changes and will change again. There's no reason whatsoever why we can't appoint a good manager and Arsenal, ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool fcuk up with their next ones [although the spending power of ManU and Chelsea is a different kettle of fish in the long term] Totally agree and it mystifyies me how people don't see that. Football goes in cycles and for various factors sides decline or improve, all you can really do is guard against violent changes of fortune with a diligent approach. The top 4 don't have a god given right to stay there and they won't.

Probably won't be a popular thread amongst some of the prozac snafflers around here.

Let's take stock of where we are. (Won't hurt I promise). We have have had some very dissapointing recent seasons and at times the club has been in total dissarray regarding directon on and off the pitch....But here we are, even at our worse we are only 3/4 wins away from clubs that have apparently made huge strides, the likes of Spurs and Bolton (who have been in or made a serious push for top 4). I don't really count Everton as imo they are pretty much at full capacity regarding potential and they will continue with good and badish seasons. Aston Villa are gathering steam and we will get an idea of how serious they are after the summer spend (expect £20/25m). Lucky for us I think MON is a good manager, but not a visionary manager (he is not as good as Big Sam) and light years away from the top 4. This aside I beleive they will be much stronger next year and will be next years Bolton (who will start to decline). We have a good set up regarding training ground and stadium expansion and guaranteed fanatical support. And once things have settled down we can outspend most. Once new management and new coaching is in place and the required players come in, it can only really be between us and Spurs (Villa will need 2 yrs IMO) to push for 4th. I also suspect Arsenal have begun a small decline, but for the last few games Bolton nearly made it even with a terrible end of season run. Spurs missed it last year by a whisker and a dodgy Lasagne. So cheer up you bastards and add some positive ideas and feelings to this board. What do think our strengths are?

Nah the Sven is interested, Agent was on SSN. .....and we have spoken to Sven 3/4 weeks ago. He would be excellent as well. I agree. Foreign anarl, which should shut a few people up until he fails and they all throw rotten eggs at Fred again. I know peeople go on, but there isn't that much wrong a bit of intelligence and dilligence can't fix.
