It's not technically borrowing. The hotels and stuff won't be owned by the club, so we don't technically have to borrow any money to build all that. Someone else is doing that and they'll own it, the club will still own the land though and get a 'free' ground extension. If that is the case and it sounds like it is....It's a very good deal for us... However, none of us knows the ins and outs of this deal. And there are other possible scenarios - that's all I'm saying. PS. I didn't see you show your fantastic knowledge of the world of real-estate before other people, myself included, explained how it works. It wasn't directed at you it was more a scattergun approach. I never pretended to have real-estate knowledge btw.

I was reading from the initial article in the thread, which unsurprisingly says exactly the same as your selected quote, along with the fact that Roeder/the team "deserved" to be jeered from the field. So there's two "criticisms" for you, apparently - when really only the second one is such. What, exactly, is your point here? I've already said that he's disagreed about the relegation issue and that in the Damien Duff article (i.e. the one that this thread was started about) the players take all of the blame apart from in the two lines I've already mentioned. How many times do you want me to say it? The players take the vast majority of the blame in today's Chronicle and there are a total of three sentences specifically about Glenn Roeder, two of which are exactly the same as each other but in different stories. It's hardly a damning indictment from Shepherd handed down via Oliver, is it? He has disagreed with Roeder before, as well, over certain comments that he's made at certain times - I think it's Parky-tastic that people are picking up so highly on one line that is merely a journalist offering an alternative opinion to a manager. More importantly word has got round that "I" have cut Glenda loose.

I believe you're correct. Maybe it's a better option for them (or someone like them) to fund the development rather than buy the club lock stock and barrel. Total speculation but if you generate an average income of around £1000 per seat off season ticket, cup games, food & beverages, merchandise etc then 8000 extra seats generates around £8m per year for the club in extra revenue. In anyones book, any business who can expand revenue by 8 million a year for life should take that opportunity. Coupled with the lease from the ground this is a very lucrative deal for the club!!! Possibly the most insightful comment in the whole thread - and totally overlooked!!! We all know Oliver is the lapdog of the club - so I'd say it's very interesting that Oliver is, for the first time, directly turning his poison pen on Roeder. At Freddy's request...? nufc.com said Saturday was the day Roeder lost the fans - has he also lost Anal Oliver and/or Freddy Shepherd? Much as I despise this so-called journalist, this gives me some hope that Roeder will be out sooner rather than later (which opens the whole can of worms re who is next, but lets leave that for another thread...) I agree and i'd swap them in an instant, but the suggestion Berbatov has adjusted any quicker is bemusing. I've said before i don't think Martins will improve with age, the flaws in his game will remain along with his ability to score goals. The trouble is, we already have a classier version in Michael Owen. I think the fact that Berbatov looks a better player on a consistent basis is evidence enough that he's adjusted quicker than Martins. It helps that he actually IS a better player of course, but he's also performing to a higher standard more consistently, so I'm not sure what's too bemusing about the statement that he's adjusted quicker. Berbatov looks a good Premiership striker. Martins....well, he looks like a once in a while wonder. He hates shooting though.

Totally agree that receiving a one-off chunk of money, no matter how large or small, is no guarantee that it will be spent wisely. But that's what the Directors are in place for, to ensure that the money coming in is utilised to its maximum potential for the benefit of the shareholders. Offering another 8k seats in 3/4 years time may be beneficial to the club. If the club is successful, then there is every likelihood that those extra seats will be filled. I would see the concern being would the seats be filled if the team continued to perform for the next 3/4 years as it has for the last two season? Until Souness went, relegation last season was a distinct possibility. This season relegation is still a possiblity, not likely admittedly, but not yet ruled out. My overall impression of most clubs is that success on the field is important to ensure off field success follows. Sure, there are exceptions, but generally I would see it as more beneficial to NUFC to have a successful team now and for the next 3/4 years rather than going to an enlarged stadium at the end of that period. I would be more receptive to the idea of 60k seats in 2011 if I saw now plans to overhaul the playing staff, get the wages under control, get motivation on the pitch etc etc. The stadium plans are laudable but I just think there are other matters which need attention first. They are different entities though MJ the playing side and the team and this what looks on paper a highly lucrative private development.

Apart from the stadium expansion, this new income stream will go into paying off the money borrowed and in the medium term profits for the backers. As long as the club isn't exposed to any fianancial danger, in general terms this is a good thing, but not something the club will make money from directly apart from the expanision. Intersting diversification strategy by FS.
