  1. I still don't agree that that means you can just ignore the rest of the world. And I'm not sure that saying how well supported the lower leagues are really support your point, as as I have said, if you support a team you will go and watch them.
  2. I was talking about the league as a whole, not just my team (who has dropped in their attendances since moving to a new arena, and now hasn't got the highest attendances in the country any more). Can also add that a vast majority of the match going fans that I know support at least one team in one of Europe's big leagues and follow them almost as much as their local team, so there is competition from the TV for all our games over here. What if Gateshead away games were shown live on TV? I would bet anything that it'd drum up interest for them and make more people go to their games. To me, you lot are sounding eerily similar to big movie companies whinging about home streaming meanwhile Star Wars is making over 2 billion dollars in the cinema. People want the best experience, and that is going to games/cinema. That will never, ever change, no matter how comfortable your sofa is. If all 3pm games are available, which is what you're proposing, nobody will be choosing to watch Gateshead games though. It will happen eventually like, the FA/PL only care about making money and pandering to the global market. Won't change my opinion though, what has made the English game brilliant and unique is the fact that there is support for thousands of clubs across the country. Asked earlier if anyone has any stats from around Europe that can back this up. If there are, I'll hold my hands up and say that you've got a point, but until I've seen them, I'll disagree. Nowhere in Europe has a comparable football pyramid. This, our lower league must be treble the size of quite a few european countries. So you can't compare just because there are more fans in the English league?
  3. That young journalist was slagging Sunderland off on social media last December. He's also called Sunderland fans scummy c*nts in the past. I struggle to see how he can report with any degree of impartiality after comments like that. I don't get your point. That seems like objective , fact based reporting to me. I completely understand mackems not being too happy with him, but to say that there's no way he can do his job is a bit ott. At least give him a chance and see if he can be professional.
  4. Got a feeling Gayle, Perez and Mitrovic will all start. If they do, good luck Wolves

  7. Is there any actual evidence that Wullie has a point here though? Has lower league attendances gone down in Spain, Germany, France etc since the introduction of games being shown on TV? I would argue that people will always go to games because watching on tele isn't a direct replacement to watching games live. I can watch each and every one of AIKs game on TV, but I still have a season ticket and go to every home game and the away derby games. If anything, games being shown on TV means that my interest in the team and sport goes up and I'm more likely to go to more games. And this is in a league that is utter shite, probably worse than the Championship. Pretty sure that last year was the most attended year in Swedish football history, so games being shown on TV doesn't seem to hurt the sport whatsoever over here.
  8. I don't think they are to be honest. There'll be a reaction from them to Tuesday night and we'll still be a bit cagey. Be a lot closer than the 2 games on Tuesday were I'm sure. 100% this. Whenever people expect NUFC to dish out a hammering we usually fall flat on our faces. Remember Fulham.and Huddersfield? I'd be more than happy with a scrappy 1-0 win. As if that has anything to do with it man What you gibbering on about? All I said is a lot of the times we expect Newcastle to win they turn in a terrible performance and don't. Calm down Loads of people thought we'd beat QPR easily, and we did. What the fans expect has nowt to do with the result or performance. I'll be expecting to win pretty much every game for the rest of the season, so going by your logic we'll probably be shite.

  10. Even in Sweden, every second division game is on TV these days. It's pathetic they aren't even being filmed with more than one camera. How do Swedish teams in the 2nd division manage to get a crowd when the games are on TV? * Don't answer affordable ticket prices. Obviously crowds aren't great, don't know what the average would be mind. Not strange considering the level would be around league 2 at best. You need to be a real fan of the team to bother with it, with how bad the quality is. Don't think championship crowds would suffer much from being televised. Are there really any evidence from around the world with crowds going down because of TV? At most clubs probably not, but didn't the great luminary that is Niall Quinn once tour the pubs and clubs of Sunderland in an attempt to get people to attend matches rather than watching on TV ? Never heard that story
  11. I like that. Perez can move wide if it doesn't work out with Gayle as well. Doubt Lazaar will start though, hopefully he gets a few minutes and then starts in the cup.
  12. I don't really care, but really can't help but feel that Townsend is such an absolute tool for leaving us under Rafa to go and play for fucking Pardew and Crystal Palace. I'm actually quite glad that he did, as it brought us Ritchie who I would say is about on par with him as a player, but you have to be incredibly thick to do something like that.

  14. It's weird though, because there are a lot of well supported Championship clubs.
  15. He kept going on and on and on all summer about how our price on Sissoko was daft and how he was "proven right" because no one came in for him. Then of course, two parties did come in for him at our valuation and he ended up looking even more of a tit.

  17. Now you know how Tubes must have felt during the summer with Sissoko. Oh wait...
  18. We're 11/10 to win the cup game against Wolves.
  19. They learnt their lesson with Leicester last season, that's all.
  20. Pure box to box central midfielders don't really exist these days, so it's a bit of a pointless debate.
  21. Let's not have another 'big club' debate, please?
  22. Big fan of the new rule that means it's not a straight red for a penalty and denying a goal scoring opportunity
