  1. it's just about balance mate, that's all, and especially if you've got jonas ahead of him the other team pretty much know what they need to do to stop us down the left. he looks really comfortable on the ball though, him and ben arfa down the left is potentially incredible. It's not that straight forward at all. You can't just say because they're both left footed the other team knows exactly how to stop them. Disagree completely. the other team knows which way they're gonna go 9 times out of 10, and that they'll be running into traffic rather than space. i'm not saying it wont work, i'm not saying we wont have a good left flank, i'm saying we'll have a more predictable one and that's a bad thing imo. Everything depends on his pace and technique..If you are useless with the ball, like Simpson, it will be a disaster putting him on left back..But from what I've seen from Santon he's fast and is capable of going both ways..It's his skills that makes him unpredictable, not his preferred fot.. have you played much football? as a defender? I have, but at an inferiour level so it's hardly relevant for this discussion..My point is simple, Santon got skills, so he's probably capable of passing and crossing with both feet, although he prefers his right foot..Simpson on the other hand find it difficult to hit a simple pass..Consequently Simpson would be the shittest defender on earth if placed on left back, but not Santon. contrary to what sam allardyce might tell you, the basics of the game are the same at any level. and one of them is if you know which way someone's likely to go, you've got a better chance of stopping them. i'm not even sure why you're talking about simpson to be honest. Surely it's exactly the same problem if you had two left footed players on the left side? They are both more like to try and go on the outside? it's a good point, but there's a couple of things i'd mention. the main one being that if you're beaten on the outside as a fullback the winger's running into space and can get the cross in, also the centre half is on the way over to cover you and he's left his man in a very dangerous position in the middle. it also means the defence are turned and facing their own goal which is a harder position to defend from than if someone cuts inside and delivers it, in which case defenders are facing away from goal and it's easier to clear. if you're cutting inside a lot as a winger you're running into more traffic, cm's can come across and help without leaving too much space in dangerous areas. all imo, of course. Nah all good points, I am still very happy even if at left back as he has done it for a better club than us. me too mate.
  2. let's hope this one gathers pace the same way santon deal did

  8. fuck, no striker then. the agent fees for this will be astronomical considering the fee was so low.

  13. looks a good player like, big and strong and very very quick, we'll be playing with two left wingers this season, colo can cover left back :colo:
  14. We've not done too badly tbf. somehow despite a whole load of factors from crap pre season, not technically having a left back etc It's a bit of a miracle isn't it? I did discover a semi logical reasoning in that the teams we had were good teams to get, Arsenal; all over the place great time to play them, Sunderland; Bruce is clueless and Fulham suffer bad travel sickness so a fortunate start, under-lined with some good planning from pardew and committed performances by the players. will it be capitalised on by some brave but considered investment, will it fuck.
  15. people asking for title changes and admin complaining is the new people slagging ashley and people complaining that people are slagging ashley
  16. It moves back about 10 days every year so will still be an issue next year (though I think Ba will have settled and be playing well for us by then so won't really be an issue) yeah that's what i mean, there's a spotlight on how he performs right now that wouldnt be there in january or next season. it's not his fault we sold the most expensive british player ever and he was the replacement.
  17. We've not done too badly tbf. i meant in terms of Ba being a new signing and playing his first few games, thats all.
  18. Anyway - "During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours." Why do some of it? Might as well do it all then. ↲↲Some moslem don't fast in certain days of ramadhan if they have intensive physical activities. It can be replaced by giving 60 poor people who can't afford food. Some others said it only applied to people who have illness or in no condition to fast. It depends on which he believes though. Giving meal to 60 people is easy for profesional footballer isn't it. how did i know there'd be a workaround
  19. its not great timing with it happening at the very start of the season, that's for sure.
  20. Why are they idiots? Some people actually follow there religion properly and don't just follow it when it suits them. there's no way i'm getting into a discussion on the merits of religion. but they're professional footballers, if you want to do something that massively affects your ability to concentrate and perform physically (by letting your blood sugar drop due to not eating) then you shouldnt be a professional sportsman. either that or do what everyone else has done for thousands of years, interpret religious ideas to your own advantage and just believe it doesnt apply to you since you are at a big disadvantage not eating. eat your pasta, drink your lucozade, then go out there and score a hat-trick for your NEW club that's paying you a fortune. stop bowing to peer pressure and face your responsibilities. So 23% of the world should not aim to become professional sportsmen because they don´t eat during daylight hours one month each year? that was merely a pre-amble to the most important point and the post is clearly not all serious. however i do think if you are lucky enough to be a professional athlete you should find a workaround, imo. not eating has massive negative impact on concentration and performance, and it's dis-respectful to employers, fans, colleagues. at the very least declare yourself unable to play and deal with the consequences, you shouldnt have it both ways. out of interest who are the confirmed muslims in our squad? are there any others apart from Ba and Tiote? because they've both been s*** during Ramadan, which means i just might have a point. Well, we don't know what if any discussions he had with the club regarding Ramadan prior to signing I hope he did explain to the club prior to joining that he had religious commitments, as that would have been the right thing to do. I don't think it is fair to criticise him for something that he may well have done that's true, i'm speaking more generally to be honest and it's not just directed at him.
