Didn't exactly have much help like. Him and Forlan were as anonymous as each other because Atlético's midfield (and defence, of course) were woeful. Aguero has shown enough in La Liga over the past few years (and last year's Champions League) to show that in a better team he'd be pretty prolific.

We played our best football because we were doing what I just said above. The Reading game in particular shows where are strengths were, yet we haven't reproduced a similar performance since. And in that game, Jonas still managed to fuck up a chance. Jonas may fuck up chances, but at least he is getting into those positions. Lovenkrands consistently looks about as threatening as bugs bunny dressed in a fluffy pink skirt.

If it's a toss up between Gutierez and Lovenkrands on the left I'd take Gutierez every day of the week. He is a very average winger, but Lovenkrands is way below average in the same position... It's not always about shot-quality or cross-quality, sometimes all that matters is having a player who is willing to run at his full back, because it prevents said full back from pushing on too much, and can also peg back their right winger if he's forced to help out (especially with Enrique overlapping). We played our best football this season at the beginning of the campaign with Gutierez and Enrique down the left flank.

As was said earlier in the thread, it's not the defeat that's annoying but the half-arsed approach the players took -- especially in the first half. The beginning of the second half showed that the rest of the match was being played in first gear, which is totally fucking unacceptable and disrespectful to both the fans and the opposition. At times we just weren't good enough (Carroll and Harewood were awful in particular) but the main reason for that defeat is just a poor attitude.

I hope questions are asked as to why he was allowed to take it ahead of a player in goalscoring form (ie Nolan) and the two strikers. Maybe none of the others had the bottle. Of course had he scored we wouldn't be discussing this. They wouldn't have let him take it if he wasn't the best penaly taker in training or whatever. Plus he's one of the best strikers of a ball on our team and has never missed a penalty before AFAIK, so it's hardly a great shock in that regard that he was the taker either.
