Like having a Bramble up front you mean? Do you know what i thought that exact thing as I wrote it. Apart from Martins has genuine potential whereas in Bramble's case it was always a case of hoping he 'might' one day eradicate all the mistakes from his game imo. Then again you get away with it up front.

Produced one nice bit of play when he got it deep, drilled it into Viduka's feet and then ran on beyond him taking a defender away, he can do good things but lacks concentration and ball watches quite a bit as well. His overall play is improving though.

I agree we don't need as much defensive cover in there but would drop Geremi instead. Martins has pace, good shooting ability, and an infinitely higher work rate than Owen. He's also shown he can play down the flanks to a moderately decent degree. Owen on the other hand is slow, hardly in the game, and only wants to play in a central position, which is where Smith does his best work. Itd cause Smith to either drop very deep or play wide, neither of which makes Smith as effective as when hes up front causing problems for a centreback. As a partnership, Owen + Smith would have no pace in it. But neither of them get into goalscoring positions or gamble on flicks and on a defender missing a cross which should be one of the first if not the first thing you look for in a striker.

Brilliant performance considering he didn't have a right midfield to protect him or pass to. Also think he has something to offer in the final third too but doesn't get to get forward that much due to the formation.

I don't know about selling him but we can't rely on him for goals.

Shame Owen's injured, them two would be a good combo based on Smith's two last two performances. Oba's just not going to supplement the goals Smith doesn't get. Superb performance from him today.

The midfield put in a monster performance in, Butt & Smith were absoloutely superb in particular.

I think he's looked very busy, played some good passes and worked hard. Looks like he's got pretty decent vision in his passing. Picks the wrong option too much. Aside though, not bad in team performance terms, just need Oba to gamble on one of Smith's flicks. He's forever playing catch up and the runs he does make are after thoughts where the defender has already gobbled up the danger. The one time he was where he should be he so nearly caught their defence out. Just needs to do it more often
