Didn't the press go to ask Jose about the England job though? The press wouldn't think to ask Jose about Newcastle. They consider us to be beneath him. Does he think the same though? As I said earlier, this for me is a genuinely concerning thought... I fear we have we arrived at a defining moment for the club here... having pined for the end of the Shephred regime we have now ended up with exactly what we wanted - an owner who thinks like the fans - only for us to realise too late the dangers inherent in this situation... It could cut both ways, sure...but on present evidence, I am left wondering whether we'll even get someone half as competent as Allardyce.

Interesting blog on the Guardian website this morning: Well in fairness, much of what was on offer felt like doing time... OK, so maybe what's bothering me now is the thought that we've ended up with the tyranny of the masses ruling the Owner and the Chairman's heads (except in this case, for the "masses" read the "You Don't Know What You're Doing Chanting Mongs"...) Be careful what you wish for... This latest episode could be truly epoch-defining for the club...and not necessarily in a positive way.

In light of recent news, Shearer's appointment looks both increasingly likely and increasingly desirable to me...and I'm amazed that I'm even thinking that, let alone announcing it to others on this forum.

Van Gaal would fail at Newcastle in the same way that all the other "proven" managers have failed. So it would be pointless giving him the job, even if he would come, which he wouldn't, because he has more self-respect than that. As does Mourinho, or anyone else "proven" for that matter.
