It's just commentary. I don't think even Green himself would make out it was intended as journalism or "fact". As such, it's just opinion. Football is a game of opinions, after all. As it happens, much of what Green wrote simply said everything you'd expect a football commentator to say on our current situation. Don't see much to get knickers in a twist about, tbh.
-
Yup. You weren't alone on that.

The best we could get would be less than Houllier. You'd be looking at the Peter Reid, Terry Venables, Steve McLaren, George Graham, David O'Leary level of bargain bin and even then being forced to rummage around for a while.
-
More chance of getting Tony Blair back as Prime Minister, tbh.

I seem to recall a certain game against Stevenage Borough which came amid a similarly torrid season, and had the press salivating at a possible upset... -
Stop this train, I'm getting off.

What 5 months? Sorry for narrowing it down like. Why not pick a five months when he was doing well? Makes no sense. Its the last year of his managerial career, and its not going too well is it. Calendar year. Luckily football seasons don't tally. Lucky for Sam. So you admit it means nothing then? Seeing as nobody looks at it that way. Who says it means nothing simply because is calender and not season? It shows a manager out or sorts over a period of the last year. Do we have to wait until May for that to register amongst people? Who the hell would put on his CV 'Well we finished in a shit position, but for the last five months of the year we were ace.'? Managers are judged on seasons. Yet so many are sacked only months into them. If so, then only because they are sacked by idiotic chairmen.

At one point early in the summer it actually looked like Sven would be managing us and Sam would be managing Citeh... Although doubtless, Sam would have been amazingly successful at Citeh and Sven would be getting his cards now. Depressingly shit.
-
Still less to be gained by sacking him than there is by keeping him.

Tesco Finest* Toffee's for the first team Tesco Value Toffee's for the reserves Trés droll, mon brave.

It won't stop people pissing and moaning - we're all anxious to see visible signs of progress on the field, and patience is running low - especially in light of the past four years or so. But I do people can grasp hold of the basic truth that Rome wasn't built in a day.

I think perhaps you've overdosed. http://collateraldamage.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/04_happy-pills.jpg

Unfortunately football is just a tad more difficult than that. Yes, but have you ever stopped to consider why? I mean it looks easy on paper, but as we all know the game isn't played on paper and at the end of the day, when the chips are down, it's not just a game, it's not even a matter of life or death, it's more than important than that.

I expect us to scrape a draw via a last minute scramble in the box from a dodgy corner.
-
Would this mean you could earn clubcard points for attending matches? Excellent way to pay for your holidays (if you can collect the points as airmiles). Jesus, I'd even sit through a season of Souness as manager if that was possible.
-
An entirely understandable concern, tbf.
-
Yeah. How can you be sure Shearer's formations and tactics would be any better?
-
Was it just the sandwich stall he was at? Or was he, by any chance, looking at the cakes as well ?
-
Been thinking about this myself Jonny. Glad he's doing well personally, proper manager at a proper club. Is that some sort of Souness reference?
-
We're also in a situation where even established first teamers are being played out of position (for whatever reason) and surely that has a destabilising effect upon the team? If Sam is given time to settle things down a bit more, allow players to build mutual understanding then maybe we'll be onto something...
-
His first task will of course be to get the team focused on improving their ranking within the premiership.
-
That's a bizarre thing to say. Possibly. Be honest: is this anti-Sam feeling just based on the past 6 months or is there more to it, i.e. Allardyce being an outsider, or worse...an ex-mackem?

Well, if we're making random allegations on the identity of the mole, I'll put in a shout for it being Stephen Carr.
