However, if a takeover goes through I'll gladly take as much abuse as you feel the need to dish out @Awaymag. I'll give you as many "you were right and I was wrong"'s as you want (within reason). And I will love it.

I think it's more tragic that we can't implement a system to get the best out of him and Haaland with the players we have available.

At a guess, they don't want the current owners due to moral reasons and don't care whether that would impact them financially and competitively.

Do you think we should expect to perform better than we currently are, are we performing as expected or over performing? I know we tend to over estimate how good we should be, but I really think we are under performing as a national side with the current talent we have. It will be a massive blow if this team doesn't qualify for the world cup imo.

It's an insanely strong league full stop. After the presumed top 4, you got teams like Tottenham and Leicester that potentially could hit some good form and compete for the top 4 spots. Heck, even Everton, Arsenal, West Ham and Villa who had decent squads last season has been investing in order to improve on last season so who knows. Of the remaining 10 teams, there's still decent teams there in Leeds, Wolves and Brighton with Brentford being an unknown entity who has started well. If I wasn't a Newcastle fan I'd be really excited for this season.

Same Saw the Southampton match thread up top and thought it was a bit weird as I was certain we had Burnley before that. Glad I missed it.

Still believe Wilson, ASM, Almiron & Willock will pull the team through to secure another season in the top flight. Hope I'm wrong though.

At nearly 24 time is definitely not on his side. Players that hasn't properly broken through by that time are extremely unlikely to do so. A handful of good performances during a spell that lasted 2-3 months back in first half of 2019 is most likely looking like that, a good spell for a very average player that was playing in a well drilled team that was in good form. There's other players I'd like to see go before him, but we don't have the luxury to pick and chose whom to sell, so if anyone is willing to give £10m for him I'd say that's good money* based on the last two seasons. *for a team that would invest the money again to improve the team.

Really? Commentator on the highlights I was watching said that they were checking VAR to see if Soucek touched the ball or not to determine whether it was offside or not, so just assumed that he was.

Just watched the highlights. Has anything changed with the offside rule the last couple of years? I don't understand why the 1-1 goal stood. Even if Soucek didn't touch the ball, isn't he an active player in that scenario by blocking the path for Lascelles?

Not winning at home to West Ham should be a real concern to those who cares. One of the few teams (can only think of them and Burnley at the top of my head) that we've consistently done well against the last few seasons, mostly due to the pace in our side compared to a very slow West Ham (and Burnley) squad.

I think so too. It won't ever get better for him here than it did last season, and even if the future isn't with Arsenal you'd think he would be aiming higher than us now.

Sorry, that was below the belt BUT, he doesn't have any specific qualities that leads me to believe he will add anything that we do not already have in the squad.

Tom Davies is a nothing player imo. Might as well have kept Colback as he has the same technical and physical "qualities".
