Stoke City vs. Newcastle United - 28/11/12 @ 7.45pm (No TV)
afar replied to bowlingcrofty's topic in Football
Stoke are really not a very good side, they really are not. They don't create nearly enough chances for a PL side. Trouble is you could say the same about us. Player for player we are better than they are, but even with injuries we have you could say exactly the same for West Ham, Swansea and Southampton ! All those predicting big defeats are really taking the slump a little too far and haven't factored in the opposition, which plays like we do, not to lose and defends 1-0 leads. Stoke won't score a bucket load against us or any other team this season, they are just not built for that. That doesn't mean I think we will win, because we simply won't but Colo back will help a lot, and this one will be a 1-1 or 1-0 loss at worst. Their fans seem to fully expect a big win for them too, hardly any contemplating defeat. http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=203102 This thread is about how fickle we are for the "majority" of us wanting Pardew out. http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=203096 Here's some quotes, hopefully this will instill a bit of passion again in us, because it looks like having read these past few pages we've thrown in the towel too. -
Stoke fans are calling us fickle linking this thread on their forums, I'm sure we don't care but think it's the general perception of other fans, and kinda perpetuates the image our support has.

This is totally true but it might be too late by then
-
I'm at 9 right now if things stay the way they are, we've lost to Southampton ffs !!
-
Something has to change soon or we are gonna get sucked in to a fight we can't win with Pardew's record in these situations.
-
We joke, but relegation form right now for sure, would say that there are a lot of crap teams down there this season that should save us, but Southampton are one of those and we can't even compete with them.
-
By the sounds of it you may as well have flushed that tenner down the toilet
-
Not on live here, should I just cancel my PVR for the tape delayed ?

Yep we could have really used this guy instead of spending all summer chasing shadows with Debauchy. Silly missed opportunity, din't care what he says in the press, he would have chosen us over them if he had had the chance, obviously we never made a serious offer. Have you completely ignored his quotes then. Have you completely chosen to fail to grasp what players say to the press, it's not always truthful, hello !! He's not going to say oh I wish I had gone to Newcastle instead because they just finished 5th in the league and Southampton had just been promoted and likely to struggle, you pleb. He even says he didn't get a chance to talk to Pards, we didn't get that far because we probably bid half what Southampton and market value was. And it wasn't about game time at all because he could have gotten the same at Palace and he would have been first choice here with only bloody Simpson in his way !! I bet if he said he really wanted to come to Newcastle but Pardew f***ed up the negotiations you would've believed the b******! I probably would have but players never say that, they are always delighted to have chosen the club they signed for over another when they play them. It's tideous to hear really, it's like they get the quotes out of some manual the agents put together for them.

Wasn't he in his last year, either way there would have been a fee because of his age.

Yep it's worrying and really not acceptable at all, injuries have nothing to do with it, huge smoke screen and very convenient for Pards.

Wow that league table. This is a relegation fight right now.
-
Sad reflection on us at the moment where a game away to a newly promoted side who've struggled badly is met with huge trepidation by the fans with most of us predicting a loss. Coming away with a point might be seen as a good result, that's scandalous really and smacks of a relegation fight.

I've not been in that camp at all up until tonight, I still think it would be incredibly harsh but I no longer think it would be totally unjust.
-
We'll be through and that's all that matters*. We need a spark right now, we needed a big win here to lift spirits. We ideally wanted to win the group too to avoid a CL team. And fuck we nearly bloody lost it there at the end.
-
Simply not good enough, fed up with our performances this season. This is a extremely shit team we are up against and we've barely did enough to warrant a home draw. Something has to change here soon or we are gonna be sucked into trouble in the league.
-
Looks like it. He got West Ham to the FA Cup final then got sacked 6 months later. He won the FL Trophy at Southampton then got sacked 5 months later. Interesting. So he's just incredibly adept at being flukey, but only during his first season in charge? It just wouldn't be the first time an extreme high is followed by a extreme low Pretty sure Southampton were doing alright when he was sacked, weren't they? Wasn't he sacked for non-football related reasons? Not sure, but I've often heard qotes about Adkins taking the team from near the bottom of league 1 to the Prem.
-
thats a bit unfair, considering we're not very good ourselves. i dont think anyone expected it would be an easy game today. It's Swansea City and West Ham at home we have to win these games regardless of form, when the likes of trips to Man Shitty, Manure and Arsenal come, then these missed opportunities will look even worse. I've not been following the game but this is simply not good enough right now, we are closer to the bottom than the top.
-
Wow just saw the result, this is a crisis right now, these are the easy games we have to be winning
-
Yeah just saw the goal for the first time after hearing how spectacular it was, I was a little underwhelmed. Amazing technique to get that much power into a bicycle kick fro 30 yards out but was that the best goal I've seen in 30 years, like I saw quoted so often last night ? Abso freaking lutely not, HBA's Blackburn and Bolton goals took way more skill than that, there's a hell of a lot of luck involved in pulling off the bicycle kick. The coverage went way over the top I believe.

This game typifies our season tbh, we are what we are and we are not very good.
-
Thought this would be a tough game for us today Would have taken a draw at the start tbh.
