No 1 priority should always been a RW. If Gordon is having an off game we create nothing especially with trippier on the bench.

I’m loathed to criticise too much but we should have been bidding for Guehi pre euros if he was number 1 target and it seems like we’ve fucked about trying to sign him. if we fail to get a RW expect more frustrating days like today and I just can’t see top 4 being realistic

The next few days will give us a much clearer idea of exactly what has been going on behind the scenes.

Once the window closes things will be much clearer.

It is actually embarrassing and pretty inexcusable using some of these players, because it really isn't difficult to upgrade them.

should never have been purchased and he was bought due to some of his affiliations. Should have saved the wages and tagged them on to Tosin's offer or to actually get the defender we wanted.

As somebody said above, his team at the time seemed all but content to let their injury prone defender go out of contract and leave for free. He wasnt in the market we should be shopping from.

None of this is his fault and I will always back him when he plays

He turned down their contract offer, and is highly rated there. And he is a good player, who you've obviously never seen previously, but here you are making wild assertions.

Semenyo or Mbuemo would cost us 40 or 50M and would immediately slot into the starting eleven

Wouldn't even take that kind of outlay to upgrade there.

    It's infuriating. Really really is.

The level of play down that side to start today was pitiful.

Actually thought he was one of our better players from the first half. Yes he probably should have cut out the cross leading to the goal, but he was solid overall and kept their biggest threat quiet. If we managed to keep the ball better, rather than treating it like a bomb, then he would have not received the stick from some on here.

It didn't help that Burn's first touch was probably the worst I'd seen since he joined and the right hand side just pumped it long most of the time. Hall would definitely have struggled when they had the momentum in the first 45.

    I really admire the honesty.

Isak was explaining what a a through-ball was to him at one point.

I was watching that sequence thinking to myself, what is the point of having Isak, if this calibre of player is on the pitch with him?

If we screw up the next few days we will have to start preparing ourselves to lose him next summer.

Wonder how much that Semenyo would cost us? He looked like a good solution to our right sided issues...

Bought from the Championship for around £10 million.

I'm actually starting to to get angry about the players we are using in the team still.

I fear I am being dragged over to the dark side ...

  7. I've changed my mind on our priority this window.

That right side is a tragedy when we have the ball and ruins our build up, and also exposes us defensively when things break down as well.

Right winger as a priority please.

We genuinely have the worst options down the right in the whole league.

Two wingers that barely dribble and often don't know what to do with the ball.

No need to get tickled, its my opinion mate. Ad hominem is childish.

I'll stick to what we all saw with our own eyes - side was much better once Hall and Trips came on.

We were much better when Longstaff and Murphy went off.

True, but he is one of the best if not the best passer in this team, and we had so much trouble keeping possession. Miss after miss after miss.

It's funny because last week, we also started Longstaff and Murphy, started the game terribly and we never got going, Hall was then also guilty of giving the ball away a number of times and almost costing us.

Howe had better stop with the Longstaff and Almiron/Murphy combo, or we are going to end up in big trouble.

It's putting us up on the back foot and taking the team out of rhythm completely.

If Hall is up against Semenyo that first half, I'm not certain we're still in the game at all.

Longstaff, Murphy (and Almiron) stick out like sore thumbs. It doesn’t help when the other lads were stinking the place out too.

It's so frustrating because their poor play emboldens the opposition and at the same time unsettles their team mates.

It's a terrible mix and it is ruining all aspects of our play.

The most telling image of the match today was poor Tripps with his face in his hands unable to watch the horror show on the pitch. Let Murphy and Longstaff start cup matches and sit on the bench only to come on when we're trying to see out a match.

And even then, when they do feature, please not on the same side!

I still think Livramento is very raw tbh - the lad has talent, but I honestly don’t think he’s looked at the level either second half of last season or so far this one.  Doesn’t mean he won’t be, but our back line looks weaker with him than with Trippier atm for me

He's not as gifted as Trippier with the ball.

However, he can be devastating on the overlap.

Playing with that pair on his side though, they were incapable of any kind of possession or play to then allow him to get forward.

And so if Howe is going to keep using that pair, then Trippier absolutely has to start without question.

Something isn’t right mind, we look like such an average side.

I'll keep beating this drum to death.

People really underestimate how ordinary Longstaff, Murphy and Almiron are. And they play on the same side to combine for a real horror show.

Without Trippier to take all the responsibility going forward today, it was even worse!!!

  14. 4 minutes ago, TheBrownBottle said:

Yep, I still think Trippier is comfortably our best RB

Both Tino and Kelly had to play in front of a crap midfield that invited pressure due to Longstaff and Murphy.

Trippier and Hall had the luxury of coming on with a better functioning team further up the pitch, with Barnes and Willock coming on.

    Very different circumstances.

  15. Man ... If Hall had started today and had to deal with Semenyo that first half, when we kept surrendering possession in midfield. And  Semenyo was getting opportunities to run at us. But whatever.

    As always, time will tell.
