If Howe listened to the out of position nonce brigade on here, we'd be playing Trippier or Livramento at left back, Isak on the wing, Schar in central midfield and Barnes on the right wing
Just play the damn players in the positions they are best and most comfortable with.
Out of position nonce brigade? What a disgusting uncalled for comment.
Yes, good thing Howe always stuck rigidly to everyone's main position and kept with Joelinton upfront.
Dumbass.

Yeah I do think it’s the way we will go tbh.
Honestly, starting Murphy or Almiron while Barnes sits on the bench is criminal at this point.
Worst case scenario I'm putting Barnes on the right, even if he's never featured there before.
I appreciate the character, professionalism and commitment of Murphy and Almiron, but either of them starting is just getting too much now.

Be reluctant to move Gordon away from his best position.
Gordon is a gamer. I don't see a drop off if he gets a run of games there, or upfront, or as an 8, or as a right or left back even. He will be productive IMO.
But I understand the sentiment.
However, if no right winger comes in, and the alternative is Murphy or Almiron ...
I'm having Barnes left and Gordon right all day every day. Or I'm just throwing Barnes out on the right and telling him to figure it out if he wants to start.

What worries me is not so much that we don’t sign Guehi, but the lack of any serious news about an alternative. It’s looking like we’ve left this all too late.
In just the last few days we've seen mention of Simakan, Tapsoba, Disasi, Kossounou, Costa, Christensen and Chalobah.
But don't let that get in the way of you choosing to worry about no alternatives!

So Eddie has pretty much confirmed this morning that he hasn’t asked to leave. But didn’t rule it out.
Which makes sense. From what I saw on Saturday and through the rest of the summer he didn’t strike me as someone who was desperate to be away like.
What on Earth was Ornstein playing at then?!

What are you on about?Relax
Just having a bit of fun before we sign Guehi/Simakan, Madueke and Hezze later on.

I’m not saying that, it’s just a little surprising that a link means anything about who we might or might not sign.
I know ... please forgive me for daring to have even a modicum of optimism or hope. I should have known better

Simakan seems as far fetched as Tapsoba for me.. it looks like all our eggs are in the Guehi basket and that will eat our whole budget
Yeah, they are all far fetched really ...
All the eggs have actually fallen out the basket and are all broken.
There is no budget. There is no club. There is no hope.

But do links mean anything? Most are made up.
No they don't actually. They are all made up.
All links mean nothing and we'll never sign a player we've been linked with again.
It's all over and the club is done for.

He didn’t exactly make himself undroppable preseason. Lots of unforced errors and poor touches.
Yeah, but could see why he would have been hoping to start against a newly promoted team, while Gordon was still getting up to speed.
Especially as he knows once Gordon is at full pelt, he won't be getting many starts.

Since the Simakan link, which didn't get written off like the Tapsoba one, I'm quite relaxed about this no matter how things pan out with Guehi.
Simakan might be an even better addition than Tapsoba, due to the fact he can also play right back and there won't be the AFCON issue, which we aren't yet in a position to accommodate, unfortunately.
Mitchell also has a prior relationship with the Red Bull group, which could be a huge factor. And their model is to sell at the right price.

Odd if true. He’s inferior to Gordon in every capacity. Can’t play RW. What did he expect?
It was an odd signing from us really. I still don’t really see much logic to it unless they were banking on Europe for rotation.
It was about not starting on Saturday with Gordon coming back late.
Calm down.

Who knows, just going off what I've read on here. I'd understand if he wasn't happy but you've got to question his expectations upon arriving at the club.
I really do wonder about what his expectations were too.
It will all be easier to manage once we get back into Europe, and have a good batch of games every week, and so we really need to do that this season.
-
Apparently wasn't happy he didn't start on Saturday having been around and playing throughout pre season.
Can't lie, I was surprised about it too, with Gordon going straight in having come back later, after the Euros.

No, I agree with you in all of that; I wasn’t talking about our business dealings at all. I’m largely very happy with our transfer model.
My point was more about Ashworth’s experience and know how in setting up pathways (thanks for the word @Ronson333) for youth players.Ah, I see. Well lets see if he can manage it at Man Utd.
He won't have the luxury of bringing through young players without any pressure of winning games.
And so a lot of things will need to be right to make it work. And it's going to be a whole different set of expectations.
Hope it all goes horribly wrong.

Tbf Ashworth is very good at establishing a (I forgot the word he used, which has since become common parlance on this forum) channel* for youth players to break into the first team. He was very successful doing this at Brighton, so I can’t imagine it’ll be much different at Man Utd.*this isn’t the word and it’s annoying me.
Okay, well we'll see.
I just don't want to hear from any Man Utd fan about the Guehi fee.
We are paying for a young, established Premier League defender that has captained his club, and who has broken into the England team and played a part in them getting to the Euros final. He is expected to come right into the team.
They have paid near the same amount for 'promise' based off one year at Lille in Ligue 1. For a defender that will be third choice behind DeLigt and Martinez to start with.
I'm happy with our approach and believe it will have a far more immediate impact.

hmm you could frame it that way. But you could also view the Yoro deal as buying someone who is seen as the most promising young centreback on the market. Also if the deal works out he could be there for 15-20 years.
If any deal works out it's a good deal. Goes without saying.
They overpaid when he had a year left, in order to force his club to push him to Man Utd, when he wanted to go elsewhere. So why their fans are going on about the Guehi fee I don't know.
They have also done a horrible job of bringing along young talent the last 10 years at least. And so we'll see how this 'most promising young centre back' comes along, after one year at Lille and now joining them.

Wow ... chuffed for him actually. The disrespect he gets is mad.
Think he's very much a Simeone and Atletico type player and will do well there.
Good for him.

They can just do the same again next window until they get it right however. A luxury not afforded to other clubs. It's exactly that mindset that keeps leading to them being so careless in the market, and signing duds.

70m for Guehi and then don't buy a RW because you haven't the money is ridicolous.
Sign Simakan: he is a top defender. Mitchell should stop Howe (and so the madness of Guehi) and start to make the market. This should be his work..
But alas, who will stop the madness of jigen?!

We're talking about playing a winger on the opposite side for goodness sake not in goal.
