It must be a hard TO sell the dream to the young academy players.
When they know the chance of first team football is very slim.
Apparently they pay the top youngsters well. And maybe
that's the reason they sign for Chelsea
But surely they are holding them back if they are not getting any game time.
To be fair they get top class training and development, and Chelsea will sell them on when there is interest in them and there is no pathway for them to the first team for Chelsea.
A good number of them end up doing well elsewhere.

10 on 10. We have a club that tries again, whether I'm fully on board with the skills of a particular signing or not doesn't matter, we have a great team, manager and some cracking effort is going in to making us the best we can be, riding this wave after the stormy seas of the last 15 years and seeing where we end up is magical.
Amen man. Amen!

I disagree I think he's well capable of playing for us now. Everytime ive seen him for chelsea he's never looked out of place and usually was one of the bright spots in there piss poor season.
We'll see. Think you're going to be disappointed.
He'll be a squad player that comes in at the right moments for a good number of games as he continues to develop IMO.

He'll surely be first choice as long as he's upto the fitness levels required. I wouldn't pay nigh on 30 million for a leftback to come in only to sit behind a good at best burn in the position. Otherwise might aswell of bought tierney instead.
He's not going to be first choice, just like Livramento isn't going to be first choice either.
We had the best defence in the league last season with Man City. The manager isn't going to just throw an 18 year old in there.

No way! Wow

Yeesh. That’s a lot. Fofana from Monaco is a similar profile that they could possibly get for around half that. These clubs are a disaster.
If Doucoure was still at Lens like he was last year they wouldn't go for him.
Hope Liverpool and Man Utd don't go for Fofana to be honest. I like him a lot and don't want to see him at either.

Poche opt to play Ian Maatsen instead of him.
seriously if they think Hall is that fucking good they would just loan to Crystal Palace for a year, just like Colwill.
not saying I don’t rate Hall though. I am very excited we grab him at such a price.
Try reading the thread. They have to sell to raise money.

Obviously Chelsea management doesn’t really rate Hall though
Must be why they refused to sell him earlier in the window when they didn't need to, and are now asking £30 million for him.

Endo strikes me as the other one you'd buy if you were getting Lavia. The cheap and dependable fallback option to have in case your high-ceiling young gamble takes time to settle in.
Doucoure will likely cost more than Tonali, which is also more than we paid for Bruno G. If folks are fewming on RAWK, its because their recruitment isn't what it used to be.
Doucoure will be off to AFCON and so Endo will be quite handy for them during that time tbf.

We could now field a "second" team of...
Dubravka
Livramento
Lascelles
Burn
Hall
Longstaff
Willock
Anderson
Murphy
Wilson
Barnes
We've come a long way!
Not bad at all.
Still also have Miley that can feature here and there.
Is Miley more of a 6 or an 8? Didn't see much of the pre season games.

Who is the England under 21 centre back with 12 months left (I think) on his contract?Man City's Harwood-Bellis.

I wonder if this one was planned or just pure opportunism?
We apparently bid for him earlier in the window and were told no.
Must have really wanted him though because we held off on other options till now, and as Liverpool forced Chelsea to pay an extra £20 million or so for Caicedo, Chelsea had to reconsider to balance their books.

Permanent with no loan? Was (greedily) hoping we’d have a bit left over for a Todibo/Tapsoba/Andersen but it doesn’t look likely now.
Still. Good news!
You never know, maybe we could do a loan deal for the centre back instead, as foreign clubs tend to be more open to those.
As an example couldn't believe Benfica did the deal for Goncalo Ramos with PSG as an initial loan.
Think as the window now draws to a close some option could become available for us. Let's see.

Eddie seems to like an English signing.
We could field and entire 11 of English players and still have a pretty impressive line up and not some shitty Burnley EDL types, actual exciting highly rated talents.
He has a knack for getting the best out of them and culturally the English football mindset fits his system. Hard yards, high energy, high intensity and dynamic in transition.
If English talent is being overlooked or being made available, then let's snap them up. They fit well with what Eddie does.
This must be exciting for you guys. If he signed just one quality Naija player ... man I'd be on cloud 9.

Deal seems close, can't imagine we'd be that far along now if they had no intention of selling him to us. They sold Havertz to Arsenal and Kovacic to City, don't see why they wouldn't give us Lewis Hall. It's probably only us who can stump up the cash for him as well and they're getting pretty close to being desperate to needing to sell some players.
Mount to Man Utd too.
-
So reports are that we had bid earlier and got rebuffed by Chelsea, but being patient paid off as Chelsea kept splurging and so he became available.
Never thought I'd see the day we'd operate so well with recruitment. Unbelievable.
Unreal that his family is originally from Newcastle too. Incredible really.
-
At only 18 this kid is going to end up being club home grown for Newcastle, which is pretty cool too.
-
These jokers really can't find another DM out there that is more long term?
The disrespect to my guy Youssouf Fofana this summer has been despicable.

Kind of game Gundogan would have popped up with a goal in.

I think when we're a Fabian Schar injury away from Lascelles we need a CB.
Haven't seen any rumours of Lascelles leaving this summer.
If he doesn't leave I'd be surprised if we added another RCB.
But maybe. Things could get crazy these last few weeks as the deadline looms.

Matt Targett to Forest for £15m once they shit the bed in January a la Wood and Shelvey.
Seen earlier they are in for Arsenal's Tavares, so maybe even this window!
I'm fine with keeping Targett though, think he'll get back to the form he first showed when he joined.

You may call me crazy but I think we should sign both Hall and Miranda.
Apparently Miranda can be had for less than £10 million.
Ideally we'd probably do this, but it would mean having to shift Target, which would be difficult I imagine.

Watched a Hall comp. Looks a baller. Pass off both feet.
Looks like he’s actually a midfielder. Don’t expect he can defend much. Very little first team football.
Looks a real talent. But anything over £20m seems excessive to me.
The Miranda lad looks ready for first team football. His highlights are full of actual defending. But shows some good ability going forward. I like that he’s tall and seems a defender first. I like Burns profile I just think he’s not great.
For a young homegrown English player that is this young and didn't look out of place in a Prem game, with some versatility too, and still so much room for growth, I don't think £20 million would be a possibility.
It does mean though, as you say, that Burn/ Target mostly start this season, with Hall being more of a rotation player.
Its an opportunistic signing for a seemingly top prospect though, so I can see the thinking, especially if the structure is favourable.

The prick in me says 30 million for a kid who's done fuck all yet
The rest of me says they've got just about every transfer they've made right so far so shut up
Mate, people were saying £50 million on here earlier!
He hasn't done much, but the signs looked very good last season.
They also scout all these guys at youth and under 21 level now too.
With the exceptional coaching we have now we can do these kind of deals. It's our big advantage at the moment. Almost every deal we've done has looked like a steal a year later.

In addition to the boardroom relationships, all the Chelsea recruitment guys from Brighton used to work with Ashworth too.
