  1. Dwight McNeil my God man ... always gotten shit for liking him, so a pretty good night for me ;D

The man has a hell of an engine on him. Powering down the pitch like that and smashing it top corner in the 96th minute is absolutely mental.

Just got home from graft and a run. Thought all games were 8pm.

what the actual fuck is going on. Insane

Brilliant Everton performance and a deserved result. Worth catching up on the goals, they all came from fantastic counter attacks.

It's outside of Brighton with not great transport links.

    Ah, right. Fair enough.

The team's been so good all season, just not a great look the stadium emptying out that way due to the result. Most of them would have stayed if they were winning I presume.

Not a big fan of leaving early in general myself though, so maybe just a personal thing.

  4. What do you lot think about such a large number of Brighton fans walking out after the 4th?

Can't believe that myself. It's not as though they've been crap all season. So weird.

Google seems to agree with you tbf. Makes sense that he was a Gordon alternative at that price.

Still think it'll be a difficult signing to pull off - rare that Athletic players move on so early in their careers.

I think that we were looking to get one of them in January, but to eventually have both, as they play opposite sides.

In La Liga once a release clause is met that's that. You don't even contact the club in question you just approach the football federation regarding paying the clause and you can then negotiate with the player.

They're so open. I get the fact they've got to throw a few bodies forward to get themselves back into it but even so, they're not even marking and leaving player with 20 yards of space to play and run into. Shocking stuff from Brighton so far

They aren't just leaving people open though.

The front four for Everton are great ball carriers in space, and Dyche has set them up perfectly to sit deeper, draw Brighton forward and break on them when they clear the ball. As soon as the ball gets to McNeill, Iwobi, Doucoure and DCL they are eating up space and taking advantage on the counter.

Brighton look very susceptible to defending against these counter attacks. Hope it's something we look to capitalise on when we play them also.

Iwobi isn’t perfect but he really is dynamic and does some very good things mixed with awful at times. Not as bad as some think.

He's very much a confidence player. Also needs to have a clear defined role in a team that functions well on the whole and is a bit more dynamic and direct.

He has a lot of great attributes and seems a good guy, so always nice to see him do well.

    Brighton is truly playing dogshit

Harsh. Everton are defending brilliantly and have some dangerous players on the break.

They're closing up all the spaces Brighton tend to prefer to play in, but are not so deep that they can't break out, which they are doing regularly to great effect.

Would be a terrific window. My only concern with Szoboszlai is the “Bundesliga attacking player” inflation.

Try and catch an RB Leipzig game, he is really good. He's tall, strong, quick and technically gifted.

Seen him a number of times against prem teams in the Champions League and he was still doing what he typically does. Was also really good against England for Hungary.

Had Murphy's shot gone in and we got the pen and the game played out the same way would we say it worked ?

What I'm getting at is are we judging it by the result. It was a quite even game, both sides creating good chances.

Yeah, maybe. I just thought we could have done with our striker getting more involved with build up play in general, as Wilson wasn't really involved as much.

I think we should see Wilson-Isak again in certain games but yesterday wasn't it. It was the right intent but not a particularly strategic move. The beauty of Isak is that yes, he's class, but you can move him about to suit the game so easily as long as you have good plans B & C.

    Yeah, exactly.

With Longstaff out and ASM not ready to start, it kind of made sense as both are in great form, but it just didn't work out.

On reflection the decision to play Isak and Wilson together was the wrong one, I know there was a clamour for it to happen but as I said before the game this was a must win for Arsenal and not for us, so we would have been better off looking to keep a solid formation at the start and then changing things as the game went on or more open.

We still played well and created chances but the early goal which came against the run of play made us open to be hit on the counter and that is what Arsenal did, they have a better balance in their midfield than we do and it is made worse by Longstaff being out.

I know there is talk of Bruno not being 100% fit but his poor performance was about holding on to the ball too long, trying flicks in dangerous positions and ultimately getting caught in possession and dispossessed. At times in the worst position possible to try it.

Arsenal are a great side and hopefully it gives the team a better understanding of what we need to do to get to their level.

I agree with the bit in bold.

I thought we could have really done with Isak upfront and dropping into space to help with our control of the ball in our build up phase.

Wilson staying high up the pitch and engaging their centre backs physically didn't really do much for us at all, as he was mostly anonymous.

Who said Bruno isn’t good enough to play against the big sides? Am I missing something.

Literally the post just before mine

I suggested that it's games like this where we need another number 6, so we can free Bruno up and give the opposition something different to think about.

Yeah, I think against certain types of opposition, it would be nice to have a more disciplined DM that recycles possession in a more simple manner, and just keeps things ticking over.

Bruno is more high risk, which can be very valuable at times too, but in that deeper position, him playing with that type of approach tends to be more effective against teams that sit back more.
