Weren't you not so hot on Raphinha last summer or am I confusing you?

Genuinely can't remember. Don't think that was me though.

Perhaps, I just thought it wasn't realistic as he was getting linked with the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal?

The best thing about Leeds going down* in a run of spectacular defeats would be that it would almost certainly stop the "GET BIG SAM IN!" shout from desperate fans of relegation threatened clubs.

    * after sad faced Leeds fans

I remember someone saying this when he took over West Brom and sent them down, seems everyone has forgotten that though, unfortunately.

I understand why people get murdered now. Could stab this cunt in the face for a week and not reach the back of his head. The most delusional man in football.

All these years and instead of actually becoming better he is still banging on about it being because he wasn't given the opportunities.

You get the opportunities by showing ability in the first place, that is more inspiring than sitting a bunch of players behind the ball and hoofing it long and playing for set pieces you numbskull. Oh ... and perhaps also help yourself by not blowing your biggest opportunity in the game by being a corrupt charlatan.

    Imagine being this clueless man.

Wonder if Diaby would pick them over us (if we get top 4). He would certainly be first choice here whereas I can’t see him ever being a regular pick above Saka.

He's very comfortable playing both on the left and the right, and will get a lot of games regardless.

I think if we can get Raphinha for similar money that makes more sense for us as he is a more bonafide first teamer that is already proven.

Benz needs an elite upgrade - Haaland or Mbappe and that's a new generation of galacticos

Mbappe is very adamant about playing on the left rather than upfront, so not sure that's the number 9 they end up with.

  6. Raphinha is still a good age, has already been productive in the Premier League, played a style at Leeds that translates well to our current high tempo pressing approach and would instantly have the Brazilian connection with two of our best players.

It's about as sure banker a signing as you can get in many regards, and he'd fit into the first team instantly on the right side with absolutely minimal fuss.

It makes a lot of sense and so it's understandable. I think around £60 million would be ideal like @The College Dropout says, but if we make the Champions League then chucking on another £10 million isn't so terrible. If we go that high, I imagine the payment terms would be reasonable, and so would be spread out in a way that works well for us.

I see a lot of reports that say he is on £100,00 a week and so paying him somewhere in that range works for our current wage structure too. Although there are also some reports saying he is currently on £200,000 a week, which obviously wouldn't work for us. Guess it depends which of those estimates are accurate.

Anyone who has been to a Leeds vs Newcastle match will confirm that the crowd are unlikely to be quiet

Agree on everything else though :)

Once they get an eyeful of his football and they fully realise how far they've fallen from Biesla, they'll be stunned into silence ;D

  8. Their stadium is going to be deathly silent.

Going from the exciting brand of Biesla and even Marsch's football, to just watching their players camped in their own box while Allardyce bellows out instructions from the sideline and plays for set pieces. Delightful.

They don't really have a big physical striker and so it will be interesting to see which centre back he plays upfront.

Think he'll be someone who'll start 20ish across all comps and similar numbers from the bench, buy into the way we play, learn a few positions and be an important squad player. Has the potential to be more but I think he'll be good for us and hold most of his value when he gets to 27-28 year old.

Good shout. I like the James Milner comp you had previously too.

  10. I cannot think of a worse set of players to put under Allardyce than that Leeds bunch man, my God. Think it is going to be a huge disaster.

Their keeper and back line are all a bit naive and suspect, and having them all just sit back on top of each other is just going to lead to a comedy of errors back there.

The midfielders and front line have all been pressing aggressively from the front and now are suddenly supposed to transition to a deeper, rigid positionally sound setup?!

Man ... I am looking forward to Allardyce possibly embarrassing himself big style. Guy is just lining his pockets. Not even gone to a team with a set of players that makes sense for what he does.

Personally I would prefer our 'purple' signings, around 40m like Bruno and Sven, to be somewhat ready-made. Especially this early into new ownership.

I'm not sure it was the right time to sign him, but it is what it is. Hopefully the pre-season does him well.

I think that price range is likely going to apply to a lot of our signings, both first teamers and squad players.

That £30 million to £40 million is likely going to get us more ready made first teamers that are coming from other leagues and so don't have the higher values Prem proven players tend to.

That price is also what you can expect to pay for some younger high potential players that would likely make up the squad, while being good enough to come into the team when needed, challenge for a first team place and eventually grow into a first team regular - I think the likes of Joao Pedro, Ekitike, Nico Williams (The Bilbao one) and Gabri Veiga are all some names we have been linked with that fit into that category, and were also in that price range.

    Nah, they were hopeless man.

Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but they gave every single team they played problems, and I just think they would have got enough results. Also think he was best positioned to get the best of all the players they allowed him to bring in.

This new guy has been hopeless and they're still outside of the bottom three. Pretty sue Marsch would have got more points than he has, no?

  13. I think a lot of people that really like the Man City style of play and the technical players they tend to feature, are probably not going to like a number of signings Howe ends up making, because that's not the type of football he plays.

We're going to end up looking more like a mix of Klopp's Liverpool and Mourinho's first Chelsea team. A big powerful side that plays an aggressive and high tempo style.

Howe said our best moments came from him. Decision to replace him was purely tactical.

Yeah, I mean once we had to chase the game and introduce Callum, it was always going to be him that had to come off.

Murphy has been scoring recently, Isak has been scoring and creating, Joelinton has been scoring, Willock has been creating chances ... I mean of course he was going to be the one to bring off.

It just had to be done in this instance.

Most of them were younger than Gordon is now is the only point I'm making. I'm not saying he won't turn into a good player for us, just that I think using his age as an excuse for him not hitting the ground running isn't a very good one.

He had his breakthrough season at Everton last season, his first season getting significant games at this level. He was 20 years old at the start of that season and by the end of it he was 21. He joined us at 21 years old and has only turned 22 February of this year.

He is young, and not just that, he is also quite inexperienced on the whole. Plus he is coming from a team that wasn't very good and so there is room for growth with better coaching and direction.

The interest in him, which wasn't just from us, was down to the physical attributes he showed last season and his work rate, commitment and desire on the pitch. Any club signing him was not doing so because he was a complete product, but because of what they envisioned moulding him into.

I read an article recently about Eddie Howe that mentioned one of the first thing he looks for regarding signings, is players with the right physical attributes and intensity to play his pressing and high tempo system, and so that no doubt contributed significantly to signing him.

From day one Howe spoke highly of Joelinton and Almiron, two players that are not always perfect technically, but he highlighted their physical abilities and intensity, and it's no surprise they've ended up doing very well for him. He no doubt feels like he can shape these sorts of players to work in his setup, but one thing he needs from the outset is high energy and intensity, because that cannot be manufactured for the most part.

I said ‘people have suggested’ not that ‘people know’.

I saw a fair bit of him at Everton didn’t rate him as a player. I think Olise has 40m talent potentially. I think Lavia does. I just don’t see it with Gordon.

Nobody’s buying Joelinton for more than the 40m we paid. And we played Joelinton in the wrong position for years. We are playing Gordon in his best positions.  I’d rather we continued buying the likes of Bruno G for 40m than Gordon’s, wouldn’t you?

I’ve never rated the lad. He’s lucky he’s come into a great team because his performances largely don’t matter. I think he’s a great impact sub at the moment. He’ll score a goal sooner or later against tiring legs and hopefully he kicks on from there and proves me wrong.  But like I’ve said - I’ve never thought the lad has serious ability as a winger or wide forward. Maybe he’ll convert to a 8 or 9 or something and be mega at that. Maybe.

Again, he has only recently joined and has hardly had a run of games.

There have been far more expensive players that took longer to get up to speed.

I would understand more if the guy had at least been here a season and had been playing regularly.

Anyway, we'll see soon enough. Think he's got a lot of very useful attributes and he'll start showing more soon enough, especially working with the bunch we have in charge.
