I think people see Arsenal fumble against the likes of Southampton and West Ham, and so I guess they think we should just run through them now? No, they're an excellent team, and on any given day if they hit their stride, even just for a few mins during their game, there is going to be trouble.
I thought Jorginho was excellent yesterday in controlling the game and setting the tempo for them, and he was able to neutralise our ability to press in midfield. Bruno wasn't as mature in his performance, playing in the same position for us, and that little difference allowed them to edge things ultimately. Bruno can learn a lot from that though, Jorginho has been around the block more, and so it's understandable he had a better understanding of the moment.
One important thing to note as well, is that unlike the likes of West Ham and Southampton, Howe is setting us up to play like a team that controls games and pressures the opposition so they have little of the ball. he wants us to be a dominant team. It's no surprise then, that we are currently the third best team in the league, behind only Man City and Arsenal, two of the best at totally controlling games.
Sure, we could camp out in our box and look to counter, which probably causes Arsenal to come unstuck and maybe drop points like they did against some of the teams they have recently, but I think Howe is trying to establish a mindset and approach that makes other teams have to adjust to what we do, the way the best teams typically do.
Games like yesterday's will only cause us to continue to get better and improve in this regard, and going up against teams that are not as good as Arsenal we'll continue to look more and more devastating like we have recently. There is a bigger picture to the approach we are going with, and it is going to pay off.

Ha! So Bruno isn't good enough to play against the top teams now, yeah?! Man, the fickle nature of of "supporters".
Anyway ... tough game for Bruno yesterday, and a harsh lesson learned going up against teams that press aggressively. Have to be more disciplined and not dwell on the ball unnecessarily.
This is something that he can get away with against most teams in the league the majority of the time, but he just needs to learn to make the necessary adjustment against this type of opposition.
A big part of him being the excellent player he is, is his willingness to receive the ball in tight areas, and not rush things in those instances, however, against certain teams he needs to keep things simpler and move the ball on quicker in order to beat the press.
Arsenal I thought, clearly targeted him specifically to cut off our build up play from the back, and he should have clocked onto that, and moved the ball quicker to get the better of them.
He'll be fine. No doubt about it.

Really great back and forth game yesterday, where the first goal was absolutely crucial, and they managed to get it unfortunately. Really could have gone either way.
So disappointing seeing how poorly people deal with results not going our way still, even though we were going toe to toe with a team that has been top of the league the majority of the season.
Never give the other team any credit whatsoever and instead start over reacting to the performances of every player in the Newcastle team. It's truly unbelievable how awful attitudes are whenever everything isn't going perfect and we aren't running over teams.
Are we just supposed to be excellent all the time now and never lose a game? Seriously, what is this? When does that ever happen in any sport? As much as folks might complain about other clubs fans, it's just not valid, because most fans are really just as insufferable in every way.

Get in! Knew Man Utd would drop the ball.

This. Come undone with poor defending and been unlucky or clinical with our chances.
Sucks, we’ve hung with them most of the match.
Yeah, I'm still blown away by how far we've come. If we score early on with that Murphy chance we likely completely run them over.

Good indication of how far we have to go to be a consistent elite team. Not there yet.
Been a really good competitive match, just haven't been calm at the right moments.

Just haven't played with enough composure and focus.
Isak has been the only cool calm head out there.
Wilson has been poor upfront. Too busy getting involved and not making the right decisions upfront.
-
Just not taken our chances, unfortunately.

Why do we have to listen to Carragher on every single Liverpool game.
He is embarrassingly bias and insufferable on these matches man. Can we not have some impartial commentary for goodness sake?

Pardew had a fantastic set of players at his disposal and ultimately screwed it up in the end by being the moron he always is.
There was nothing special about his setup or tactical approach, whatsoever. That season was all about great moments from Ben Arfa, Ba, Cisse and Cabaye.

Listen to these muppets in the studio making out as if this was some great Leeds performance. My God ...

They should have been 5-0 up before Leeds scored that
Yes, that's the point I was making.

Man City are a disgrace today man.

City seem to be playing at half speed and it's still too much for Leeds.
Man City don't have the slightest worry about having to defend as Leeds are never getting out from that low of a block, with so many players back.
This is just a training session exercise for them.
-
God ... they have no chance of getting out and breaking as they are that deep and Bamford is so far away from everyone. This is classic Steve Bruce man.

What a ball Kevin ... wew.

That’s what we’re going to have to break down next week
They are so deep and applying so little pressure I don't think it will be an issue.
Bruno will have all the time in the world to push up right to the edge of their box and pick out passes.
-
This is exactly us under Bruce man.
9 outfield players in our own box, with Joelinton 10 miles away ''upfront''.
"Tactics".

Big Sam tactics working perfectly, oh.
It's like Man City are going against some cones that have been put in place. No pressure on the Man City players whatsoever. They'll just keep finding the gaps throughout this game.

The Rico Lewis kid is going to be incredibly good. Fantastic looking prospect.
