I think Palace are good at protecting their assets and getting good value for them, which is well within their rights. I actually think this deal gets done eventually, but it will just take some time. That was the point I was making. A player with a release clause should be more straightforward, and that deal wasn't. And so I'd expect, one without a release clause might be even more tedious. Also, if it's annoying when the likes of Man Utd fans talk down on Newcastle, why do it to clubs like Palace?

Palace take their time. It was the same with Bayern closing the Olise deal, even though there was a release clause. Apparently the way they structure contracts, there's certain protocols that need to be followed when trying to sign their players. No news is good news. Even regarding other clubs possibly being interested and coming in, they'd have to go through the same process, and we are much further down the line already.

Yeah, that's true. If we go for some one that isn't elite, it would still have to be a player we think can hit a higher level in our team and setup, and perform at that kind of level down the line.

I think this might be the case. If we had somehow signed Olise, I doubt we would have also gone for Guehi or someone of a similar price.

I think once Olise went to Bayern, it was always going to be tough. There's not too many options on that side on his level. However, improving things in forward areas on that side really won't require a top class player necessarily. Just having someone that takes players on with confidence and also crosses/shoots with more confidence will be big. Miggy just doesn't do that enough consistently.

Some more reports that we are interested in Nico Gonzalez, who has been made available for £25 million, but there's serious competition from Atletico, Atalanta and Juventus. Also, the lack of European football might be an issue for us.

The Berge signing is actually real?! Fofana at Monaco and Kone at Gladbach are available for pretty low fees this summer, as they are in their final years now. I'd take a punt on either of those ahead of Berge. Very surprising move by Man Utd. Not sure about your window at all.

It's not that it's not welcome It's just that there's nothing we can do about it, so after it's been mentioned once or twice or thrice, not sure why we keep getting told it will lead to PSR issues. Size, mobility and some level of comfort on the ball always translate well in the Premier league. I agree this kid looks even more dynamic than Toney did. He has some great tools for sure. Ironically Nile Ranger had a similar make up too, but just an incredibly poor mentality.

He had some decent info when he actually talked about the player. Actually said he comfortably held his own physically against Premier League players, and of course mentioned his pace. What shocked me the most was the big deal he made about £10 million! Pretty sobering really.

This name has been floated about with Newcastle from early summer. Never seen him play, but looked into what he was like from info online a little while back. Seems a highly rated youngster and similar sort of profile to the Argentine youngster we were linked with that has gone to Roma, Matias Soule.

Thought the deal was close after all this time?! Any idea how much you guys were offering? Ugarte has only turned 23 this year. Think around £50 million is still a good deal for him. Mistake walking away in my opinion.

And Olise too even. Ornstein reported we were one of the clubs granted permission to speak to him after first approaching Palace.

Seems we've gone about things the right way. Unlike some clubs that put a bunch of noise out about their interest and then send in lowball offers! He's got two years left, so from a Palace point of view they will be willing sellers if the money is right for them.

I'm just glad negotiations seem to progressing quite well, without a bunch of drama. Palace are really tough to negotiate with and tend to get annoyed easily if things aren't done properly. They had all these specific steps in place regarding Olise that took Bayern a while to navigate before finally tying up the deal.

Atletico were asking for 70 million euros for this guy weren't they?! And Atletico have also just spent that on Alvarez from Man City. Have Chelsea actually gone and paid that much for him?!!! He's a young talent, but he's still quite raw and inexperienced. My God man.
