It wasn't an intentional move to make you look bad, but a simple oversight. I could add in the word 'progressive' and my overall point still stands as I explained in my last post. The stats aren't enough to define him as not being a progressive passer. Not at all. I've seen him play the ball forward and between the lines too often to know this just isn't true. I've explained how other factors would influence the stats. And so yeah, agree to do disagree.

I think they use him all over, but his main position has been on the right side I think. Sara is a great signing for them. He mostly plays centrally though, although he can play on the right too. Hard to say if the two are correlated.

Really think he came across well too. Both he and Mitchell look really happy to be at the club.

@The College Dropout These are the two bits that lead to our whole discussion. In the second post you said if he was so great at passing and carrying the ball - it would be more evident in the stats. You've since clarified that you meant progressive passing. Now personally, from watching him play he is excellent on the ball, passes it really well and not just side to side either, and carries it out from the back really well too. Your argument is that his stats are not comparable to Andersen's or Schar's in these areas, and so he isn't that good at these things. I don't necessarily see it that way. Because Andersen is a better passer and they play through him more, this by no means takes away from Guehi's abilities. However, it will affect his stats though, as he will not need to take the initiative as much in that area. As I also mentioned a lot of these stats came during Hodgson ball too, where in general it wasn't very progressive play from the back, so again less opportunity. Regarding not carrying the ball as much and bringing it out more. I would imagine in a partnership with Andersen, who is less mobile, Guehi is more likely to be tasked with covering, with Andersen bringing the ball out more often. I just think watching him play within the Palace team, you can see he doesn't lack in these areas, and there's a lot more that goes into all of this. And so just firing off all these stats isn't enough for me.

Pre-season (2026/27): NUFC to play Everton at Murrayfield on 12/08/26

Me, I'm tired ... -
I really don't think I did. Your posts tend to contain a lot of changing information. You also completely ignored any points I made and started discussing something else. Very difficult to have a proper discussion.

He's fine. And has a top level skill he provides for the team, in pressing and breaking up play in midfield. The issue is having him in there with a Longstaff and an Almiron. The combination of these three is always going to make our build up suffer. What we need is Tonali in for Longstaff and a more capable right winger. -

Compounded further by having them both on the same side. -
Okay, well, once the season starts we will all see for ourselves how he looks in our team and not Palace's. If he joins of course.

Not the strongest source, but intrigued by the level of detail in there. Especially that Mitchell had an eye on him at Monaco. Looked a handful at the Euros and was fun to watch. Absolute power house and impossibly quick. Also played like he had more lungs than the rest of us. Really like that he can play upfront too, like he did for Turkey. Very much an Eddie Howe player. Won't be the creator some want on the right wing though.
-
I don't think this is the case. We'll have to wait and see. Ultimately though, the guy we have put in place is no mug, so everything is going to be much better thought out.
-
Nice! Sounds like he's excited about the move, which makes this even better. We really have to push for top 4 this season. There's enough uncertainty outside of Man City and Arsenal that we have to try and take advantage. Think this kind of move is a big step towards that.
-
I don't even think about this anymore, with Mitchell coming in now. They would have weighed up a bunch of things before deciding whether this was feasible. I think adding such a guaranteed performer in the league, who is young enough to improve further in a better team, and who is a top character and a now full international, is as good as it gets. This increases our chances of locking down a top 4 place immeasurably.

Now he's broken into the England team and performed well, his price will only continue to climb, most likely. I think it's likely Guehi is coming out with top marks from all involved with the scouting process, and significantly ahead of other options. With his contract now in the final two years, we can jump in now and still pay a fair chunk, but get in ahead of other teams that would likely prefer to try and get him for cheaper next summer, if not on a free in 2026. If he still had 4 or 5 years remaining we wouldn't even have a chance really, I don't think.
-
Okay. It's just sometimes I just get really confused about where you're coming from with things. Yesterday you had said Guehi wasn't a good passer and it didn't show up in the stats. And watching him doesn't match up with that. Neither do the stats. And when I showed you his passing stats, you completely ignored those, and then showed me a different comparison of two players altogether, asking me which one was the £60 million player. As if just looking at those stats determine a players value. Had I shown you Gordon's numbers for his Everton stint, they looked like he was a £10 million player. But then, you were dead against that signing too. I think maybe you focus too much on the stats and not what they do on the pitch, and how that would translate in the system we play etc.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's the sincerity bit I wonder about. I'm not sure if @The College Dropout is trolling or not at times. There seems to be a theme of players we are after never being good enough, or moves the club makes not being the correct moves. Just so he can tell us what should have been done instead. He immediately stated we should be doing better than Guehi yesterday, and then mentioned certain things about his game that sounded off. And then later says he watched some comps and was then pointing stuff out he liked that was a bit different from what he said originally. He's off course entitled to post whatever he wants. Just find it a bit odd. People have disagreed with stuff I post and they let me know about it too. No one is stopping anyone from sharing their views. The public forum is functioning as it should.

This guy You have so much to say on all these players, often talking about how they're not good enough, and it's becoming increasingly clear you haven't really watched them!!! This is so strange man.
-
He's poor on the ball and doesn't pass as well from the back and we have been targeting the opposite in centre backs.
-
At this point I've said and shown all I need to. If and when he comes in we'll see. Same deal with Lloyd Kelly, who you are convinced is squad filler. Just a matter of time now.
-
Just ignore them man. We'll be fine regardless.
-
-
Yeah, I agree. Have to at least take both into account.
-
I'm pretty certain most on here probably would, as it's more exotic and exciting. But there's more risk involved. Think it's far more likely Howe would prefer the latter though, due to their familiarity of the league. And so far more certainty. For where we currently are I understand it.

Regarding the third striker and centre back, I think it might be a case of something like £70 million on Vitor Roque and Malick Thiaw Or Osula and Guehi Just from a money standpoint, and the fees being talked about. But could be completely wrong.
