We've not been bad to be honest, Man City havent really had that many chances, once again its a shitty individual error, and an another thunderbastard thats gone against us. We've also created a decent amount of chances, should have had a penalty, and been causing them a few problems. I like this system Howe has us playing, too bad the players are just utter gash.

Yeah, absolutely. Very encouraged that we have continued to try to play against these top teams we have played recently. It has lead to some mistakes that have cost us, but the teams we need to beat will not be anywhere near as good forcing errors or capitalising on them, and so we will have our time once those games come around. We are going to benefit big time from the challenges we have faced in these recent games.

I said from the start Howe was the wrong guy, nothing I have seen has changed my mind. No doubt we’re going down

I think you'll be proved wrong. Defensive mistakes are costing us, but I continue to see some good signs in our play and it will shine through once we get through this tough period of games.

I was just thinking yesterday how many people wanted us to get Bielsa in, wonder how those lot are feeling after the pummelling they have been getting of late. Most people don't have a clue man.

Assuming the guy is competent at securing a signing, I see this move as - primarily - avoiding the total disaster that may have ensued had there been no one with the solitary focus of making transfers in January.

Howe's focus has to be the team and Staveley/Ghodoussi are, by all accounts, totally stretched by everything else on their plate. Therefore parachuting someone in to dedicate themselves to January transfers seems sensible. No, it doesn't scream 'richest club in the world' - it just screams stopgap. Given the context I don't see a big deal in that.

Regarding his apparently dubious track record; given the short term nature of his appointment, you wonder if we'd even be going after targets presented by him. I wouldn't be surprised, in this case, that Howe has as much (if not more) to do with identifying targets, and Hammond's just here to get the deals done.

Yeah, seems more like he will be working on finalising the deals.

We essentially needed someone to come in and do what Charnley previously was responsible for I imagine.

We basically saved ourselves the year we bought half of Ligue 1 and even then we were largely bargain basement shopping and exploiting contracts to get deals done.

The fact we can now go and get an Oxlaide-Chamberlain or someone of his ilk will drastically improve this squad.

Yeah, that Jan was great. That bunch just came in without any baggage on them and improved the team significantly. Hopefully we can see something similar take place next month.

    Ah not to worry man.

We're not in League One, we've got rid of Ashley. In time we will eradicate the stench. It's a sad truth but all tonight has convinced me of is that less of these lot are saveable than I first thought. I believe it was the daft old racist Graeme Souness who once said 'Is Pogba a tractah or a trailah?'

Right now we've got a bunch full of trailers. They need quality, they need momentum to do something. We need tractors. Your David Batty's, Rob Lees, Alan Shearers of this world. A few of them can pass for tractors when its going well, but not enough to win big games.

We're fast approaching January and then we can add some new faces and start to move on the deadwood. Hopefully that injection sparks life into things because unfortunately when you keep a squad together for 5-6 years things fester.

Great post and I agree completely. The rot has truly set into this bunch, and the especially poor start to this season under Bruce has just about finished them all off.

A handful of the right players coming in next month could really lift the place and fire the team up again. Going to be really interesting to see who comes in.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe talking to BT Sport: "In my opinion the game should have been stopped before their equaliser with two players down. Two players down in the box and it had a huge bearing on our game plan.

"As soon as they score the crowd are in the game and it feels unjust. The referee said he thought he was holding his back but Isaac Hayden held his head, he was dazed for four or five minutes. It could be dangerous and we have to think of the players safety, you also don't want to see games decided when you have players out of the game."

He's right to say that in public, but behind the scenes I would have to have words with both Hayden and Schar.

We all watch enough football every week to know that you cannot rely on these refs to help you in any way shape or form. Unless you are badly injured get off the floor and keep playing for goodness sake!

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Schar or Hayden, and their behaviour in that instance was unacceptable.

  7. Hayden laying on the ground has ultimately cost us 2 goals tonight.

The first because the goal is scored while he's lying there hoping for a whistle to bail out the team from defending in that instance, the second because the team's concentration was completely gone for a while after that, and Liverpool could see it and they pounced immediately.

Nowadays it's even too much to just ask players to get up and keep playing if they are not badly injured or for the others to continue to play until the whistle is blown. Instead Hayden is on the floor and multiple players are remonstrating to the ref while Liverpool just carry on playing before then helping themselves to a goal.

I honestly think this has to become a fineable offence now. The number of times you see this nonsense take place is ridiculous, and quite honestly as infuriating as the whole thing was I can neither fault the ref or Liverpool, as I would have been absolutely delighted if we had capitalised from such an incident if the other team was playing for a free kick in that scenario.

And so here we are once again with one of our players doing something idiotic that has cost us a far greater shot at getting a decent result. Really getting sick of it. Makes the team so unlikeable.

How fucking frustrating has this been. You can coach a team as much as you like, but when individual players drop stupid clangers, there is just nothing you can do about it. Infuriating.

It really is such a shame after a pretty decent start.

The manner of their first completely threw the team off mentally and they lost concentration for the next 15 mins or so as their minds were still on the uproar over the goal. And Liverpool have capitalised by adding a second.

The biggest issue for this team is it's complete lack of resilience and any kind of 'fight'. We better bring in some big personalities in January that have good leadership qualities and are very positive, because these lot are just so defeatist once things get challenging.

Thought Maxi was going to put that away tbh. Should have scored.

They pass the ball straight to us and our player gets in a good position but partly scuffs the shot, which is saved. We make a similar error at the other end, which the keeper does well to save from, only for the rebound to be put in. Unbelievable.
