Far too many names beginning with RO. Rooney is very strong on and off the ball, i wouldn't put Shearer in the same bracket till he turned 30.

If he gets selected, i'd imagine it would be primarily as cover for both full back positions. Not in a million years an international CB.

Ronaldo could have bullied defenders the same way, but realistically he was far more useful recieving the ball deep and facing goal as opposed to winning the one-on-one battles. But Ronaldo's strength was completely natural, Shearer had to develop it when other apects of his game began to wane.

When we signed him, Shearer was just about the best CF in Europe - he is a better leader of the line than Rooney(physically stronger)and he and Lineker at their peak would have been devastating - esp with Beardsley behind them. Better than Ronaldo? No. And never stronger than Rooney during his England years, not in a million years.

The problem with Smith is his 'effort' is completely counterproductive. He makes tackles but in areas where it's completely unecessary and generally mistimes them. He also wants the ball but does nothing with it but invite pressure through losing possession or simply playing the wrong pass. Then there's the case of his temperament and ego. You're a puny little bleach blonde spice boy from Leeds, stop pretending you're a tough guy.

Rooney has more goals from open play in less appearances for England. It's not a card I particularly want to play but wouldn't you have been about 9 when Shearer retired? What are you going on here?

Shearer took penalties, and like Rooney (so far) only had one good tournament. I know we all love him, but never is he better than Rooney.
