Funny, you said that Owen did very well getting 7 goals (from open play) in 28 games Martins managed 8 in 24? Yet he's a 'crock of s****'??
-
Yeah, completely with you, just lock it
-
Ferguson has an ego the size of South America. He'll probably think there's a chance that working with him every day will bring out the Owen of 5 years ago, a very dangerous striker
-
Are you seriously saying that 8 in 28 is a good record mate? There's a reason Capello wants him nowhere near, he's a nothing player against good defenders and has been for a long time
-
Must have missed his goal against Brazil in the World Cup Quarter Final in 2002 did you? I wish him every success in the world and i do not blame him one bit for what happened in his 4 years with us. He still had a good goals to games record for us and at times last season worked his stots off and was far and away our best player in some games while being constantly starved of service by our s*** awful midfield. why are you bringing that up? One goal doesn't change the fact that he let us down. His record post-1998 is 4 goals in 16 games in the tournaments, pathetic How is 8 goals in 28 games a good goals to games record btw? Seriously 8 in 28 isn't bad. Adebayor got 10 in 27 and Rooney 12 in 30 last season. The difference being that Owen's team was relegated and those players' team finished in the top 4. but it certainly isn't 'good' is it now. Especially when you consider the fact that he relies on goals to justify selection more than just about every striker in the league

comparing Owen with Ruud Van Nistelrooj Van Nistelrooj has strength, is the best finisher in the world and has an absolutely magnificent first touch

I really have had enough of this, the way things are going we're going to be lining up with just about the same team we started against Villa, minus Edgar, Viduka and Lovenkrands
-
He needs a lot of time to get those chances
-
There's a reason that none of the top clubs in europe have players as limited as Owen in their team lads
-
If they sign Luis Fabiano there's no chance he'll be in the first Xl tbh. As a bench player i dont think he'll be that effective. One of those players who need an awful lot of time on the pitch to put the ball in the net, even against tired legs
-
Bit harsh. I'd say from Euro 2004 euro 2000, 1 goal world cup 2002, 2 goals none in the group stages euro 2004, 1 goal none in the group stages world cup 2006, no goals absolutely
-
it's something that the media has always overlooked, Post-1998 he's let England down badly in the tournaments I honestly don't know how he does it, his reputation is an absolute sham
-
to be fair, if he cant motivate himself to play for a team with the kind of support we demonstrated against Villa, how the fuck is going to do it for those souless wankers. Of course, i'm sure the pay as you play deal might help somewhat
-
I'm looking forward to the day that Liverpool turn them over again
-
I'm trying to be as objective in my appraisal of Martins as possible. Are we really giving the lad no credit whatsoever to playing with a injury for the good of the team?
-
1 season out of 7 makes the lad injury prone. It's premature to call him that
-
In terms of him being finished, it's probably best to judge him on his performances next season. He has lost his pace, but his other attributes are still there (remember the % conversion stat). In terms of his hight, it's never handicapped him. His movement and judgement has lead to him scoring plenty of headed goals. His knees, well that's very relevant. You're right about that and it's the crunch for his entire future in football. All depends on his knees. Oh and don't forget Shearer adapted his game brilliantly (well so did the entire playing mentality of the team) when he lost his pace. Now I'm not saying Owen is a dead cert to do the same, but he has other attributes which mean he could. like what?
-
I don't think that he said he wanted him to do well (he might, I can't speak for him) but he said he thinks he will do, in a team with better service. Learn to read Dreseden has said or strongly implied in the past that he wants Owen to do well in the future, nowt to do with reading
-
Over the three seasons he's been at the club, he's missed enough games to niggly groin strains and similar injuries to be classed as injury prone... especially this last season. Take your fan boy specs off for a minute He was injury prone last season, fair enough. But nobody was calling him injury prone last July, were they?
-
Why dont list all these injuries then? Honestly, I swear some members of this forum come straight from rehab
-
I'd question the loyalty of any nufc fan who wants the little cunt to do well
-
How on earth does one season make a player injury prone? Was anyone calling Shearer injury in 2001 after he'd basically missed 2 out of the last 4 seasons
-
that justifies Owen not even managing 1 in 3 in the premiership from open play does it? 22 goals in 71 games is a shocking record for a self-proclaimed 'goalscorer' Give it up man
