The thing is, Chelsea already had a pretty good spine of players before Abramovich entered the scene, Lampard and Terry being the key ones (along with Drogba) over the past 5 years. Man City are building from scratch, don't have the recognition and aren't based in London, it'll be a lot more difficult for them

Puyol is a big name, big star, big personality, whatever. He's also likely to get anihilated in this league. Go for Per Mertesacker for the love of cunt
-
Is he going back to cleaning boots?
-
City are in danger of becoming an absolute joke in the football world and one that players will get ridiculed for joining. Puyol now? Honestly, what a bunch of wankers

He could easily turn out to be Sir Bobby Robson mk2. We've got f*** all to base it on. Personally, i'd rather not be shitting cash - cos it's pretty much everything i go against when it comes to modern day football. I'd like to have enough money to survive and get there through skill, quality and graft - a nice balance, like the Bobby era. I know it's thoroughly idealistic, but i just hate how you have to be mega-rich nowadays to achieve any form of success. I'd quite happily take a moderately wealthy owner, with Shearer as boss - if those are the options. But the reasoning for that leans towards the first half of the deal, rather than the second half. I don't want to see us turn into an utterly deplorable parasite like Chelsea or City. Not too fussed on Shearer... love him to pieces obviously but if we can appoint someone who's proven to be a good manager ahead of him, i won't cry into my pillow. which is why chosing him over an awful lot of money is madness, surely you knew what I meant

Stupidly rich owner obviously, Shearer could easily turn out to be Greame Souness mk2
-
 he's riding a bicycle and eating an apple, yet has this 'what the f*** are you looking at' expression
-
The Spider. he had some good moments. Especially when playing for leicester in Divison one during 96-95. Played 2 games for them, was at fault for 4 goals and spent the rest of his time there as their third choice keeper
-
I'm pretty sure he has his initials on his left forearm, fuck knows what that tribal mess on his right is
-
To be fair, they already have Ferdinand, Rooney, Vidic, Giggs, Carrick, Hargreaves and probably have several more big names to arrive in this window
-
Milan did sign Zeljko Kalac, the worst goalkeeper english football has ever seen
-
To be fair to Guthrie, his peformance against Wigan (a) put the performances of the 6 or 7 'captains' to shame
-
Guthrie's tattoos looked good last season, shame he's turned them into a sleeve, looks awful
-
One of those players who just didn't hack in the premiership, but will probably do well on the continent. Gooch didn't have the speed of thought to play over here, over there with the slow pace he'll be fine
-
It was a good night that, long entertaining game. Great feeling about football - 3 games, 2 wins and a draw (against Man u no less) how things had changed a week later, ruined a holiday I paid over 2 grand for
-
not what Joe Kinnear said as I remember. Over £10m would surely have got him?
-
Against Coventry mind. True. Still not sure how we managed to go into extra time with that, that was one of the best performances from us I've seen in a long time. I remember going to football the next morning and my team mate saying that it was the best performance he'd seen from any team so far that season. Ultimately meant s*** though...
-
the only time I left a match thinking he'd played brilliantly was the Chelsea (h) last game of 04-05. We drew 1-1
-
Had I been an nufc player with access to Lambias/Ashley, I would be in prison now
-
i just don't see why ? seems we offered what i would consider a fair price. Weren't we making noises about signing M'bia and Veloso all through the window before finally ringing City and the Mackems with those last minute panic bids? The whole exercise was a joke which was only made worse by Kinnear shouting for months beforehand how he was going to hit the January window with mike's backing. it was bollocks from start to finish and the sooner these clowns are out of here the better. I voted for the Malaysians incidentally. Money isn't everything but it's much better to have plenty of it. good points As i've said before, the fact we refused to pay anymore than £5m for Mbia but then 'bid' £8m for Johnson is laughable, absolutely laughable
-
beyond belief. There is nothing similar about them imo, Gillespie was twice the player Aye for sure, faster and better crosser oh and he could take the ball past a defender too jonas is the better footballer. gillespie is the better out and out winger. The comparison was with Milner mate, not Jonas

Hang on... didn't he notice she was part-Indian until they were engaged or something? Lol blatant "scorned lass sells story for revenge" shenanigans tbf. I liked Bowyer a lot as a player but somehow all the racist dots seems to join up in his case
-
far too much of this nonsense
-
We were never going to sign Johnson, they picked a player we needed (a midfielder) from a team who clearly weren't selling anyone in the last HOUR of the transfer window. Wise up
-
Lee Bowyer who was caught on CCTV smashing up a Macdonalds, according to staff because he refused to be served by lets say, a man of asian descent. Bowyer who according to his fiance broke off their engagement because she was one quarter indian. I think the exact words were 'there's something in you' Bowyer who fought a teammate on the pitch (I partly enjoyed that one btw) Bowyer arrested for assualt more than once Bowyer who got sent off twice in successive seasons at Anfield, yet nobody seemed to care about that
