The opening sentence there would probably sum it up for a massive proportion of nufc fans tbh. From his first season here he's felt like a nufc player, just like Beye. A lot of people are ignoring the fact that he was clearly playing with an injury in the latter part of the season and in an ideal world wouldn't have been anywhere near the pitch. But sadly as our best striker we needed him, injured or not.

if Sevilla are interested I meant

This. Martins has time to improve still, he is a world class striker when he wants to be, getting him to do it more than once every ten games is the problem. Owen isnt getting any better and his pace/ability is shrinking faster than miss pepperpot. Neither are staying though, so its a moot point. They both offered too little this season to get hung over about. World class striker sorry but He has all the ability and skills to be one, he just needs decent coaching and application, the latter being the biggest problem. Eh? He can't control the ball, has no sense of what's going on around him, and his finishing is diabolical except for once every blue moon. Being a natural athlete which he undoubtedly is, is not the same having all the ability and skills to be a world class player. World class players simply do not look as s*** as Obafemi Martins does on a football pitch, regardless of coaching or application. Well that's the gist of it. World class players aren't usually to be found playing at St James Park, unless they are a busted flush like the guy you used to champion, Michael Owen. I don't really know why you are so intent on singling out Martins when you look around at the rest of the squad. Are we a leading club challenging for Champions league football in your world? In that case the uber-criticism might make sense. It's the Oba Martins thread and someone called him world class, i wouldn't say he was singling out Oba more ridiculing that view of him ... and rightly so Gemmill has singled Martins out from day one though
-
for that, definetly. Not that he'd come anywhere near
-
Utter bollocks. what leads to believe that Solano has the personality to be a coach then?
-
Anyone can play this game. Unprovable and therefore means f*** all. Jayson > Gemmil Jayson talks a lot of sense when he doesn't mention Owen
-
I bloody hope so It would be some kick in the bollocks if he were to take the WBA job and lead them to victory against a Kinnear inspired nufc next season
-
IMO save money and give Ranger a go, this is not ooooohhh Ranger love this is give the lad a chance, use the money to replace Owen let Nile be the powerful runner. He's not even played a game for the first team man. He looks promising but come on. He's a kid. So were Owen & Shearer both, infact Nile is older now than they were when they got their shot, yes okay they were not meant to be 1st choice strikers both got their chance mid season and took it, but the situation we are in money is not there to spend and top stikers are not going to come to us anyway.. neither Owen nor Shearer had any pressure on them to perform when they broke into the first team, if he's good enough, he'll prove it, but hopefully not because we absolutely need him to
-
If we go into the season with Carroll, Lovenkrands, Shola and Ranger as our only strikers we're fucking doomed
-
No player that I remember has ever divided opinion like this, but a lot of people posting in this thread just dont like the guy tbh. I know some will counter with the arguement about me disliking Owen, but Owen has never felt like an nufc player to me and I see that as pretty unforgivable given his wages and status in the team.

Add Guthrie to that list and I'm with you, but be realistic man, we would be lucky to keep one of them let alone all. Bassong and Oba are saleable assets, even if we dont want to sell them there are little guarentees they will stay if an offer comes along. Guthrie isn't a big name/high value asset, which is what i was getting at. But yes, he's one of the 5/6 we absolutely must keep
-
How many assists has he got then? those 3 seasons .. i bet that figure is pathetic looking. 10 according to espn, which is 9 more than Owen incidentally
-
Oba, Beye and Bassong are the 3 i'd love to keep. If and when the rest of the big names are sold/leave i'll celebrate like we've just signed Ronaldo
-
it isn't good. But when you bring the ACN into account along with his injury problems this season it isn't THAT bad.
-
he's scored 17, 9 and 8 in 3 seasons 34 goals is better than 1 in 3, not that bad for a striker not considered an out and out goalscorer
-
Martins has more than 28 goals for us mate. I think it's 34 or 35
-
1 in 8 (f you include the city game) or 4 in 10, we can both spin it whichever way we want tbh The argument is getting very old and he's gone. I just hope that in 4 years time we aren't having the same arguments about his replacement. Time to look to the future, be it Beckford or whoever

what a f***ing laughable post. he is on £70k, a wage i doubt no other club will offer, no wonder he wants to stay. we need to get rid of the dross at this club who are burning a hole in the clubs pocket. he has done nothing, absolutley f***ing nothing to justify his wage packet. i f***ing hate the c***. keeping us up in 06-07 didn't justify it? He's been poor since his injury, and you hate him for it Talk about being a hypocrite. You hate Owen and the same can be said about him keeping us up in 07-08, as well as being poor since his injury at City. please correct me if i'm wrong but hadn't he only managed 1 in 8 before his injury at Man City? 29-11-2008 English Premier Middlesbro 0-0 Newcastle 0 06-12-2008 English Premier Newcastle 2-2 Stoke 2 14-12-2008 English Premier Portsmouth 0-3 Newcastle 1 21-12-2008 English Premier Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham 0 26-12-2008 English Premier Wigan 2-1 Newcastle 0 28-12-2008 English Premier Newcastle 1-5 Liverpool 0 10-01-2009 English Premier Newcastle 2-2 West Ham 1 17-01-2009 English Premier Blackburn 3-0 Newcastle 0 4 in 8. you're missing out the games against Hull in the cup there, but fair enough

The difference between Owen and Martins (imo) is that one never fulfilled his job description when here and the other one at least made a good stab of it. Owen was bought as a goal-scorer and didn't do consistently. Seriously, why even bother bringing Owen into the argument, he's fucked us all over and laughing about it. He's gone and I for one would agree with a permanent IP ban for the next person to mention his name on this board after June
-
and you were in the toilets with Otter when Martins scored his 6 goals in 12?
-
You didn't take it in yet you based your entire counter-argument on it? You dont like him, fair enough but saying he was s**** all season is bloody ridiculous and I doubt you even saw the games based on that
-
I didn't avoid anything, if you look at the first post on the page (that you even quoted ) you'll see that I acknowledged he was poor post December
-
You said he was poor ALL season, make up your mind. He clearly wasn't at full-fitness and it was alluded to several times that an operation had been postponed so he could play through the pain barrier
-
so 6 goals in 12 (prior to the injury) is poor? as for the rest of the arguement
