I think Phillips coming in January would be a sensible one, especially if it’s an option to buy on loan. I’ve been really disappointed with his lack of development at City, however do believe Howe can improve him a lot. Suppose the biggest question is how long will it take for him to be at the level of sharpness Howe needs to function effectively in that role.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if we ask about Lloyd Kelly in January, contract expires in summer. Plenty competition for him though I’d expect.
I don’t want either tbhPhillips is a bit similar in style to Tonali - I want a 6 who can play is all 3 roles but can specialise as a 6 if needed (ie Bruno injury or rest) - Tonali can do this but I want someone more physical - to me that’s Yousuf Fofana as I mentioned before
Don’t want a left footed CB - so no to Lloyd Kelly - a Leny Yoro type seems the most perfect fit

Yoro
Fofana
Bakayoko/Olise
Zirkee
and we are cooking

According to Wor Garth Crooks in his team of the week he can strike a ball cleanly with his weaker right foot

PSG look the outlier of the runners up, and Sociedad for those who topped the groups, so typical they'd be drawn together...
Napoli vs Barcelona probably the stand out tie, Inter vs Atletico perhaps the closest on paper.
Both Barca and Napoli have been really bad this season - Barca especially given their talent -
Wow Arsenal have had such an easy passage (and Man City)

Good shout this looks a player.
Can play all 3 midfield positions - great passer - physical beast - can score goals - 24 years old(Y Fofana)

There is one midfielder out there who is perfect for us - Yousuf Fofana - ticks every single box in what we are looking for

Found it odd no PL clubs went for Gyokores in the summer.
I think it may have been a personal choice on his behalf - to go away - be the main man and work for a very good coach -

Does he remind anyone else of a Geordie viera?
Not at the moment - would love to see him drive forward with the ball - however game by game we seem to be seeing something different from him - it’s very very exciting -

I noticed today his running off the ball isn't very intelligent, either when pressing or when we have the ball, once he fixes that aspect he'll be even more of a threat to other teams.

You can’t get rid of this guy - he offers so much - allows us to play Tino as LB and offers good all round cover
if anyone leaves it’s Matt Targett

We were, but he's since signed a new contract there I think
Yeah he has - zero chanceI’d be surprised if we haven’t taken a look at Johan Bakayoko

Add Isak, Schar, and Joelinton to the list.
Maybe it’s a PL league rule whereby if a player returns from injury another must be sacrificed?Thought it was a bit weird that Burn - Longstaff and Wilson returned and we didn’t nominate 3 players to get injured
-
What a great squad player

We overplayed Schar
he should never have played today

Agree with this, he looked done physically on Wednesday
He was gone after 40mims -
Schar has been overplayed sadly so there is no surprise he’s injured or majorly fatigued
Time for the Geordie Maldini

He’s raw, but very direct and great dribbler. Always trying to get something on goal. Very one footed. Fearless.
He isn’t totally one footed tbh - has 3 assists with his right foot - your typical left footed player who loves a finesse curl into the far cornerIn addition to what’s been quoted his crossing is better than Miggy - tends to cut in and whip the ball - good ability to play through balls
He is very raw - the season on loan and European football will do wonders for him - we are very lucky we got him on
loan to such a good club
He alone isn’t an answer to our RW - but I’d be shocked if him an another RW aren’t in our squad next season
-
How the hell has he suffered a setback??? Just like Willock - WTF is going on
Added to this they bought Murphy back early - amateur hour
-
I honestly don’t think we are far away - these next 2 windows should be used to propel us - make 2 XI worthy signings - 2 good squad signings and we are cooking

Whoever this midget is..we need to sign him. Causing liverpool all kinds of problems
This is Brighton’s feeder club so I don’t think we are getting him -

Really like him and clearly has a lot of potential. Where do people think his best position will be, hard to say because I think he could be one of those players that could be utilised in any position in the middle.
He should in theory mature in the next 2/3 years to be able to play all 3 roles - 6 - 8 and in a 2 - I see him as an all round midfielder -
To mitigate Miggy slightly - he looks spent - Miggy when 100% is a decent player
It’s obvious we need an upgrade though if we are to progress as a club

Yep - bar Bruno - we don’t have one - no point in getting Phillips as he can only play the 6 (can cover CB) too - Best buy someone who plays as a 6 and 8 is quality in both positions
