I honestly don’t think we are far away - these next 2 windows should be used to propel us - make 2 XI worthy signings - 2 good squad signings and we are cooking

He should in theory mature in the next 2/3 years to be able to play all 3 roles - 6 - 8 and in a 2 - I see him as an all round midfielder 

To mitigate Miggy slightly - he looks spent - Miggy when 100% is a decent player 

It’s obvious we need an upgrade though if we are to progress as a club

Its a great experience for us - so much to

analyse and process - a great indicator of where we stand, what we need, what can we do better - for next time, whatever European competition it is, we have something to fall back on.

I honestly don’t think it’s a case of we weren’t prepared or ready - during the campaign we have had so many players missing - that’s just bad luck and I think that’s the most disappointing thing for me - we didn’t get to have a proper go at it.

I can’t wait for our next phase of development - its damn exciting.

I’ll settle for CB - CM - RW - CF you then add Tonali and Minteh and the squad is already looking healthier 

The likes of Miggy - Targett - Dummett - Ritchie - Manquillo all surplus to requirements 

I do think a lack of experience played its part - something we can definitely work on - Howe will learn massively, it’s been a great experience for him 

Not having to call upon Botman - Willock - Tonali - Murphy - Anderson and Barnes for literally the entire campaign hurt us 

Lack of quality in certain areas of the field - the RW is one such area - not having a 10 either really hurts as the flat 3 in midfield can be overrun 

Squad depth - we just weren’t ready - it’s taken a massive toll - again we will learn from this 

Not all doom and gloom - win our next 3 league matches and we are back up and running - my major concern is fatigue - the players are goosed and with no let up in the schedule it’s going to take a huge effort 

I am fully on board the Johan Bakayoko train - he’s the one I want - together with Minteh that’s the next 10 years sorted 

J Murphy then becomes our wing cover on both sides 

Barnes <> Gordon

Phillips is naturally an out and out defensive 6, but he won’t start over Bruno there under any circumstance. Perhaps we view him as able to be deployed as one of the front 2 in the more of the big Joe role.. then the question is how fit is he? Considering his lack of playing time at Man City is he up to speed fitness wise to play in our system? I know he played Bielsa ball well enough to earn a move to city but that was a few seasons ago now. Then you’ve got the issue over the fee and wages, we won’t sign anyone without an obligation I am convinced of that. Age is against him also.. a good player but to much stands out against the idea for me for it to be a reasonable option.

 

 

 

My take on it is that it’s an extra body until the end of season - we desperately need players - then by all means review in the summer
