Aye, but it's entirely relevant to the total attendance, which is what the first 2/3s of that article is about. The total attendance figure in the table is the number of people who attended our games divided by the number of games, hence we have an average total attendance of just under 50k people for the time period they took the measurement from. That then translates to a percentage of the total available seats for that same period vs. the amount we sold. It is not just the number of people who came to all of our games added up... I'm not sure what's happening here. The first table - where we're 6th (with 1,146,044) - is the total projected tickets sold for the season. Average seats isn't brought into it. That's what they've based most of the article on. You know what.... you are right. red face! I see what you are saying and what I was saying is slightly different. I was only talking about the average bit while you had the first bit (which was the article headline) in your mind. Sorry mate...

Agree, their attendances are very decent given that they have also had to suffer utter crap on the pitch for decades. However, their average is a little further back down the list as compared to ours, that was never the point. The reason I made the post was that they missed the fact that it was the average attendance which factors in the number of games played, they seemed to think it was just the number of games we play that made us so high up the list....

Not sure if serious... Amount of games we play is irrelevant to the average attendance isn't it? The headline states a fact, in that table we have the 6th highest AVERAGE attendance of all the clubs measured.

I don't think the article from the MAG is embarrassing to be honest, it takes a table that was published showing Europes football teams and their average attendance across the season then, quite rightly, remarks how incredible it is that we achieve such a high rank. The word average is used in the article several times, for any mackems reading that means the total number of seats sold divided by the number of games played. The simple fact that average is overlooked by a few mackem posters who seem to think that we are on that chart only by virtue of the fact that we play more games over a season is what is really embarrassing, for them anyway!

They have picked up on some table about attendances showing that by capacity we are 6th largest, or best attended club in Europe. Could even be the world but, I would settle for Europe. They are justifying it by telling each other that the reason our average attendance is ~49k is simply because we have to play more games in a season than they do. One of the special fella's over there figured out that our, remember, average attendance is 20% higher than it should be because we play 20% more games than they do. Figure that one out if you possibly can.... http://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/newcastle-united-top-6-in-the-world.1284008/

    Rolando Aarons

Something like starting a brawl where tables were flying about. That's the sort of thing I was eluding to.... :-)

    Alan Shearer

Fourth from the left in the back row has to be a Srnicek...

    Rolando Aarons

The article says that while the group were dancing and "grinding" with his Aunt that Aarons was laughing and enjoying it all, he only got pissed off when they started to film it. I guess he thought, quite rightly, that they had started to become a little disrespectful at that point. Or maybe he was just worried that someone at the club would see the footage and he would be in bother for something.... like maybe he should be resting and trying to get fit for his job - I am sure that if he was drinking alcohol that his overall progression back to physical fitness would be compromised... There is nothing to say that he was actually drinking alcohol himself by the way... just that loads of 250 quid bottles of champagne got knocked over or thrown...

Agree with Shintonsghost, the area around the "corner" always has a good atmosphere but, this cannot be heard at the opposite end of the ground. I sit in the East Stand towards the Gallowgate corner and there is almost constant singing from there, I have sat in the Leazes and it sounds like a church apart from the usual mocking of the away fans above. The East Stand, as a rule, would need a bolt of lightening to get the majority of fans back to life.

    Paul Dummett

Yes, he is an upgrade in certain aspects on Dummett but, I had forgetten about Lazaar... Only seen him play once and he didn't look especially assured but, I bet he was quite nervous as it was his debut....

Let's get this into perspective; man comes into the NUFC forum (albeit the Sunderland thread) with the user name of an Indie Rock band claiming not to be a mackem, then uses a couple of "youth culture" words mixed in to the posts and dropping in some cool band names that he is in to while claiming to be 65 years old.... This is the exact opposite of what we expect from mackems, they are generally old while claiming to be young so they can fiddle with 15 year olds... I am really confused...

    sunder↓and

Don't know too many 65 years old folks who use the words "mint" referring to something good (rather than the herb used on lamb chops) or freaking as an expletive... Aye Carumba!

    Paul Dummett

How far is Haidara away from challenging for the first team left back slot? Significantly more athletic player who should be starting ahead of Dummett. Although I would take Dummett in left back all season if Rafa agreed never to play Colback again!

Watching MoTD on Sunday morning as I usually do on any weekend. When Van Arnholt scored that rather lucky equalizer - off he went with an exaggerated shisha pipe smoking celebration, not quite in the same vein as Robbie Fowler snorting up the white lines but, surely worthy of a season long suspension, possibly a prison sentence??

    Paul Dummett

One of the big issues I have with Dummett is that when the ball is played to him he tends to back away as the ball rolls towards him which allows the attacking player from the opposition to close him down more, when he does eventually step up to play the ball he invariably strikes it off the advancing player and out for a throw either where he is standing or in most cases actually further back towards our own goal. I think he is trying to buy time so that his slower than average football brain can determine where he should kick it, perhaps looking for the pass he needs to make. A better or more accomplished player would have his pass already mapped in his mind so as soon as the ball arrives he can make the play. He is a concern but, far less of a concern than the likes of Colback who is just awful. Last night Colback and Diame were just being carried by the rest of the team, I am so surprised that Rafa doesn't see it the way that we do.
  19. In the East Stand - when their third goal went in, thanks to an absolutely massive deflection, there were some audible groans and a certain amount of murmuring - definitely no boo's. A few people got up to start to walk out but, before they got down the first flight of stairs they turned around to come back (on the whole) because Gayle scored to bring us back into the match. Personally I cannot make myself leave early, I only ever did once and that was many years ago when we were stuffed by Blackburn, or was it Birmingham, in a cup game.... You simply never know what this team is going to do. Amazing scenes at the end with everyone in the ground up on their feet - even the East Stand dwellers were singing. The players must love that, Lascelles leading the team to applaud the crowd at the end!! what a tremendous captain he is! Best atmosphere that I can remember for many years!

No it was my fault... I had a slight recollection that it was Souness rather than Alladyce but, all the same it looked to all points to be a corrupt deal then and still does today!

With regard to Newcastle, strikes me as somewhat odd that he signed Bolton players and was signing players he had initially planned to sign for Bolton. He was also sacked during a period where Chris Mort and his team we auditing all of the clubs accounts and business dealings. Who was that terrible defender that Allardyce signed from Rangers that we all thought was a dodgy deal at the time? Boumsong. Signed for 8m six months after he signed for Rangers on a free. That's it. Stinks that one!

  23. I am going to say no because my son plays on a Saturday morning and his game clashes with yours. Thanks anyway.
  24. Probably still be quicker than me. I am going to say probably not.... haha I will think about coming along - I love playing football - currently play 5 a side once a week. Ok to put you down as a yes? What are the details? Where and what time etc? What even is this. Thread title and OP. OK, I accept that was a daft question but, the where bit is reasonably relevant... huh?
