I'm not suggesting capping memberships at the number of available tickets, I'm just suggesting not making them infinite and not selling them after a certain date.

I don't think capping memberships would lock out any fans really, or not a significant number. It would just stop random people buying a membership to take a punt on a day out (at the expense of a fan).
