Even if he's right, he should keep his opinions about other clubs to himself, it's just professionalism. QPR should be having a word with him about this TBH, if they don't curb his twitter behaviour it'll only end up harming them eventually.

Almost every player Liverpool have signed is massively overpriced really.

Great post, but expect some abuse.

Don't disagree with a single point of this post, we have been let down massively. I don't either really, we could have done better. I don't think we have to be lucky to do well though, I'd prefer to put it like we'd have to be unlucky to do badly.

Why? It's been obvious to most for months and months that this is what the plan is. Barton is just saying it, nothing wrong with that. It really hasn't. There's no way the club is actively planning to sell Tiote and Krul. Obviously if Chelsea come in with a £40m bid we will probably sell, but the vast majority of clubs are in that position. I am worried about the contracts of the likes of Colo and Jonas though, as they must be on more than we're offering to new players.

One of the main positives about Joey going was that we wouldn't have to worry about his twitter antics any more. No such luck it seems.
-
Beren, I don't really disagree with that post except that the club being in the black would have to happen for more than one year for it to stop being an objective, but the bit about liquidation is mental mind.

You have a better strikeforce than us, for one. You have some real quality players in midfield. You have a class defender in Colo, Saylor has seemingly improved a lot, Santon is frankly a coup. Shh, this isn't a time for sense. This a time to over-react. Get the fuck off our board with your nonsens. No, don't you get it? I'm an Ashley apologist since I pointed out your plus points. Berate me. Berate me! You nob! That's all I could muster, it's late.

pretty sure ian w should change his name to "Derek Ashley"..........gan on ian, i even went to the effort of putting caps on and stuff. I genuinely laughed at this. I should be in bed.

Hard one to answer without knowing the details of the deals that we turned down, and without knowing what any of those potential signings would have gone on to achieve for us. If we had signed another striker I would have said it was a very good window, as it is it's still decent. Honestly find it difficult to answer this question, I'm not trying to avoid it. I've never argued that we were maximising our potential anyway TBH, I've always said the balance of spending is difficult to get right and I don't know exactly where the right level is. People just seem to be determined to paint me as always agreeing with everything Ashley does, which I've never done.

Totally unnecessary and highlights why we're better off without him, regardless of his contribution on the pitch. Used to really like you Joey... If he didn't give shit about the club, why would he bother? He's absolutely right as well. Because he likes to be the centre of attention and take a snipe at a club that refused him the deal he wanted.

Because they're huge heavy fuckers and they can't do them all at once @ Yorkie Geordie: Agree 100% Obviously. Just wondering if there was anything to read into the fact that they weren't taken down in order. Hoping that some fixtures on certain letters need changing or some such. That's what I thought when I say the photo, I wasn't more worried by it than before. Hope we're right! Would be disgusting to see that lettering gone.

Joey obviously wanted to stay with us and was gutted to be holding up the QPR shirt. What he says now is of no importance to us, he should keep his nose out.

Too true. Aye Joey, about as ambitious as joining Queens Park Rangers. Ambition is relative. Don't buy this argument, it's like dumping Scarlet Johannsen because she has stopped wearing lip stick and going out with Susan Boyle because she has started buying her hand bags from Primark instead of Oxfam. True. I don't even think QPR are any more ambition than us, they just have a bit more money to spend and looser standards about the players they buy. Exaggerated analogies. Last refuge of people who don't want to confront a situation which requires no analogy. One club making maximising their resources = ambitious. One club not maximising their resources = not ambitious. QPR are more ambitious than we are. What are "our resources" though? We almost always make a loss, so unless Ashley is going to continue to subsidise us we will have to spend less and bring in more. So by resources do you mean Ashley's personal wealth?

oh joey you thick f***, do you think money only comes from transfers, if the club you professed to love made a 1mill profit on transfers while losing 10mill elsewhere you's still only see the 1mill profit wouldn't you ? he did say from profit from transfer , and it's true that we had made profit from transfer!!!!! Well obviously, but he's ignoring the wider financial situation. What's the problem with making a profit on transfers if the rest of the club is making a loss? It all comes off the bottom line.
-
He's a twat, it was easier to overlook it when he played for us.

Carroll is looking an awful signing for Liverpool at the moment, will be interesting to see if he can stay confident and fit if he spends seven or eight weeks on the bench. Still think he'll come good, but at the moment I would be very disappointed if I was a Liverpool fan.

Very interesting. I think what people forget is that sport isn't an "efficient market" in any way. The amount of spending does have a correlation to success, but the link is much stronger at the top of the market (i.e. the top 4 or 5 clubs in the Prem) than in the middle. In the middle, it's better to be smart than to overspend. I'm not entirely convinced we are smart, but some of the deals we've done suggest we might be. It is a hard tactic for football fans to get behind though, especially ours, because we're so used to solving our problems with big-money signings. On the face of it some of our signings do seem smart, but any goodwill goes out of the window withn a lack of a striker which was obvious to all that we were desperate for. Surely Ashley is smart enough to see this? Which makes me think he's taking the p*ss. Yeah, but I think it's more that he sticks ruthlessly to his idea of not being overcharged by a club or a player, and that overrides everything else. The club probably knew how much we needed another striker, but Ashley wouldn't change his policy because of that. Probably right. How far do you take it though. On the face of it, it does seem sensible, especially when clubs know that you've made very good money in the transfer market, but there is being a tough negotiatior and being a twat and it looks like our board are being twats. Its hard to believe that a man who has made good money and done very well in buisness can't see paying slightly over the odds for a player may in the long run make us more money. Yeah, they probably do take it too far and miss out on signings because of it. Difficult to know exactly where to draw the line though, as with everything in football it isn't an exact science.

That's what I was trying to say about this thread, but I couldn't quite get my feelings into a decent post.
-
Could only be you that would say that! We'll see, really doubt this is happening, but if it is I'll be raging as much as anyone.
-
I would be very surprised if that's the case. More likely they just spotted him first, convinced him to join them and he liked the idea of being massively paid to live in luxury somewhere in West London. Really don't think players have as depressing an outlook on Newcastle Utd as the fans do. Except the ones we've forced out of course.
