Total bollocks this refereeing thing, the standard of officiating is no worse than it has ever been. There's only so many decisions a human being can get right in a game that moves at this speed. Managers, players and fans need to grow up and accept that sometimes decisions go against you and sometimes for. Just because football is big business and a media spectacle doesn't mean that it's stopped being a sport.

Howay man people, we were discussing Europe 48 hours ago, a narrow defeat by Everton doesn't suddenly make us awful. -
Just sometimes he looks like he's the only player on the pitch with any attacking threat to his game.
-
Man, that's mental.

Same for me, although I'm no more worried now than I was before this match. -
He's definitely surprised me. I wouldn't be gutted if we started next season with Best alongside a better quality partner.

Can we just have a couple of standard posts for Shola? One where either he hasn't scored or we've lost that says "dogshit, never be a player, get rid ASAP", and one for where he's scored the winner that says "comes up with some important goals"? Real time saver.

Europe: would you take, er, 5th place right now?

We don't really have any more injuries than before today's game when we were talking about pushing for Europe FFS. Even if Enrique misses Stoke, Barton will be back and probably Ireland. -
I would love to see Jonas with some mobile and intelligent players around him, would be interesting.

I would take 6th now, definitely. -

I agree we just lack guile and the ability to break down teams enough in open play. That said, Ben Arfa, Ireland and Barton might help with that. -
Which year from 2000 - present is this post from?

The way opinion changes after a victory and defeat on here is incredible! I keep promising myself I won't come on after games but then I can't resist. TBF, I guess individual opinions might not change that much, just the negative people come out after defeats and vice versa.

I don't think Everton did deserve to win by more than one, it could have gone either way. The chances they had at the end were mainly because we had to throw people forward. -

He's a complete phony imo. Ignoring today's performance because he might not be fit, even at his "best" he plays more like a sweeper than a centreback, i.e. drops deep and looks to mop up loose balls because it's easier to do than to actually go in for the tackle against a moderately talented player and win the ball. Which is why his primary form of defending involves throwing himself in the path of a shot, when for most centrebacks it's about intercepting the ball or getting a tackle in. Should be a priority to move him on this summer. Probably better for his career too, as he has it too easy here so might actually have to focus and improve his game for once to get a start elsewhere. Hasn't he just signed a massive new contract? -

Just one of those frustrating games where we never really got going IMO, hardly surprising considering the team we had out. We know we can look one-paced and static at times, and that's how we looked today. The movement was very poor and Everton succeeded in limiting what we could do with the ball. Couldn't pick out any really good or really bad performances from the game, everyone seemed to struggle to get into top gear. -

Did they really need to take that photo from so far above him? Weird camera angle that!

I would have thought every Newcastle fan knows the problems that can result from giving big money to the wrong players. The only thing I'm going to judge the summer on is how good the players are. The more quality players we can get in the better, but I'm not going to go mental if we don't spend exactly £35m net.
-
The negotiations will be player-by-player I would guess, I really doubt there'll be any time where Pardew asks for a specific amount of money to spend then goes out and makes the signings.
-
We won't spend £35m on transfer fees, nobody should be expecting us to. I'd be massively surprised if we did, I'd be happy with half of that as long as the players are right.
-
Not particularly convincing IMO. Not entirely surprised to hear you say that Dave.
-
Maybe he was misquoted or taken out of context though. He might have just been saying he was fit.
