Gameiro looks a happy chappy from the Google image results, always grinning away. Might mean he has the famous character that we're looking for in a player. Probably doesn't mean anything mind!
-
Didn't he play LB against Chelsea in the Carling Cup? He played really well in that game, can't remember what position though.
-
Yep, obviously £12m is a lot if he flops, but then so is 5 or 6 really. Every signing is a risk, I've never seen him play so I can't really comment on whether he's worth it.
-
£12 million's not really an insane amount any more though, I would up for taking a chance if he's athletic, quick and sharp. We sadly lack that up front.
-
Yeah of course, I've never thought that Ashley didn't take the opportunity to cash in. Anyway, this thread is about the legendary Pards... I think he's done alright so far.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

Sadly Carroll will probably do amazingly well for Liverpool. -
West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

I was surprisingly quite excited when he came on for Liverpool, I was keen to see how he did. Despite the fact that intellectually I absolutely hate the guy now... weird. -
Carroll asked for a new contract then submitted a transfer request... he wanted to leave.

I can just see Barca being more prepared this time, and Messi raising his game to blow Arsenal away. Don't care either way, that's the great thing.
-
Not really, a referee isn't demoted after every incident he misses, is he?
-
Lovenkrands is way below Premier League level, I was worried about Leon Best but Loven has been so much worse.
-
Unless anyone has any data about whether the amount of mistakes really is higher (which I guess it's impossible to obtain) then we need to stop arguing about that issue. IMO it's no worse, some people think it is. There's no way to tell either way. And the referee isn't working for the managers, so to compare them to his client is insane. He works for the game in general, embodied by the Football Association. If anything he is higher up the hierarchy than managers.
-
Because officials continue to make mistakes which can have massive effects on players' and teams' seasons. If I make a mistake at work or produce a poor performance, I get the blame. It's how life works, they shouldn't be immune to criticism. I don't think it should happen in public, via the press or twitter or whatever, like. But it should happen. They will always make mistakes, they are human beings. Criticism already happens in private, referees are assessed and demoted/promoted. It just shouldn't be instant and at the behest of a baying mob of incredibly biased managers.
-
Overall haven't seen anything to suggest I should change my opinion that he's doing well. The Everton team selection was a bit odd in hindsight, and I still don't understand why Routledge was let go. But bigger picture is looking fine.
-
The amount of mistakes is massively overstated IMO, it's just a non-issue for me. The main problem is why managers, players and fans are constantly blaming and disrespecting officials. That's what needs to be addressed.
-
He should have started on the left against Everton IMO, with Jonas moving over to the right.
-
There's no way that has happened.
-
Yep, Newcastle.
-
Shola is our best striker at the moment, I would hope that would change after the transfer window but he's definitely going to have a big part to play even next season IMO.
-
I said it on page 1 but it was dismissed with a neasypost, so here we go again. As many people have realised, refereeing isn't getting worse... if there's any evidence to suggest that I would love to see it. Referees perform their job to the best of their ability. Of course they are human and aren't immune to psychological factors like players confronting them, the reactions of fans and the pressure from managers. But we should be trying to find ways to protect referees from all these things, not criticising them for it.

If you're reading this Jose lad, you're a legend and we never want you to leave. Please sign a 6.5 year contract, it would make me the happiest man in the world.

Newcastle United 1 - 2 Everton - 05/03/11 - post match reaction from page 26

Exactly, we know that we're prone to looking static at times and struggling to break teams down, if anyone forgot that because we were getting better results then here's a reminder. But it doesn't mean we aren't capable of still getting results, we've proved this season that we are. -
It's just the defeat factor, every thread other than the match one should be locked down for two or three days after a loss.
-
Yeah, you're probably right. He did have a difficult decision with the RM spot though, I can see how he thought Simpson was more equipped than Taylor to play there. I would have gone with Jonas on the right and started Fergie on the left... but for some reason managers never seem to throw the youngsters in even when there seems to be a need. I guess 'experience' is overrated, just like it is in most jobs.
