We've been crying out for a player like him for years. Class act at what he does. Thought there were a couple of incidents yesterday where he took a few too many risks, but only a couple and his physical presence got him out of it. If we could replace Nolan with someone who can actually move around the pitch we would have a decent midfield.

The "We Won't Win Another Game This Season" Fred aka Relegation-o-meter
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Stu's topic in Football
So you think we're 75% likely to go down... three times as likely as we are to stay up? Seems pretty harsh based on performances and points so far. -
Proud of the lads and Hughton after this one, we wuz robbed basically. I was watching it in the pub and I hadn't even got a drink and sat down by the time our best player was being stretchered off. Then as I got to my seat they were being gifted a goal by the ref. Follow that up with a great equaliser and being robbed of a certain penalty at the end, just makes you wonder WTF was going on. That amount of bad luck is enough for a month, never mind one game. Just hope we can pull together and beat Wigan by a good couple of goals. We still badly need to drop Nolan, he was a passenger yet again.

Just like the Man Utd game, this is a defeat that will help the players rather than hurt them. Barring many more ridiculous injuries, we should do alright. The only worry is the lack of quality up front. -
Only positive for him is he's young enough to get back, and hopefully it's a pure bone injury rather than damage to the ligaments as well. Could be a pivotal moment in the recent history of the club really... the difference between finishing in a decent position with an exciting player making the headlines and making us look good, and an average season of slugging it out with the Blackpools and Wigans. I really hope everyone pulls together and ups their game for him, and that he's looked after in the best way possible.

Not really. Diving is more deception than outright cheating. In the end, it's up to the referee to give the decision. Eh? Deception is outright cheating. If at the end of the day it's up to people to find out when you've done something wrong, you could get into all sorts of stuff.
-
A certain amount of 'gamesmanship' is obviously OK, like a forward using his experience to force the defender into fouling him to get a high ball. That's normal. What we're talking about is diving, basically throwing yourself to the ground when your opponent has done nothing to put you there. IMO that's not acceptable, and I would criticise my own players for doing it just as much as opponents. If you don't care about how you win, you may as well advocate bribing opponents and officials, or popping some laxatives in their water bottles before the match.
-
Nah, they're paid to play football, a sport, within the rules governing that sport. Very surprised you're endorsing cheating. What value is a win if you know in your heart it was gained by cheating? That's a fundamental principle to all sports and games.

The you're a dangerous man Baba, someone who thinks the end always justifies the means.

spurs also gone for it too which is odd considering they got planning permission for their stadium Levy doesn't want to be held over a barrel by Boris Johnson or by contractors. Boris wants Spurs to pay a few million to improve the public transport in the area over and above what Spurs are already paying and wants council houses funded by Spurs in addition to the 400 odd flats Spurs will be building. Putting our name in the hat for the Olympic Stadium (the closing date was yesterday) gives Levy an alternative option though it is very much a Plan B. Yeah, seemed to me just a case of Spurs keeping their options open. Would be mildly surprised if they really wanted to move all the way down to Stratford.

What work's in the championship doesn't necessarily work in the Premiership. Agreed, but it never seems a good idea to mess around with your biggest strength first. Also, it was never given a fair chance to work in the Premiership, Hughton is just attached to Nolan for some reason.
-
The one thing that we should never have messed with this season was the left-hand side part of our team with Jonas and Jose. It was mental to change it IMO, we should correct that mistake ASAP by putting Jonas back in on the left. All other conversations about selection should really be based on this premise.

Carling Cup fourth round - Arsenal (h) Pre-Match Thread

Would be harsh to dispense with most of the players who did so well against Chelsea though, no? -
I'm just burying my head in the sand and hoping he'll drop Nolan.
-
Would you prefer if diving was removed though? If so, can't see how you can fail to object to any player doing it.

Christ, these two must be on the slowest recovery system ever For the last couple of weeks, they've been 'not quite there'. Better than what we used to do, rush players back and have them break down again. -

True, but so would the other team.
-
You would need to supply a lot more examples than that to justify that conclusion.
-
I don't think there would be any euphoria, I would be embarrassed from the moment of the dive. Unless it looked like a penalty at the time of course.
-
I can honestly say I wouldn't celebrate if it was from a blatant dive. Nothing to do with it being Nolan, that wasn't the question.
-
Also, the question is hypothetical as Jonas would never dive!
-
Nah, I would feel ashamed if we won it like that, and it would spoil the whole enjoyment of the victory. I realise most people might not feel like that, but I honestly wouldn't want to win that way. To answer the question, there wouldn't be any euphoria.
