PR and strategy wise, seems stupid that anyone from NUST should be spending time attacking Ashley or trying to claim he's 'asset stripping' or making money from the club. It's clear that the value of his asset (NUFC) has reduced significantly and he's spent much more money on it than he thought he would need to. Everyone hates Ashley anyway, the effort could be better spent on their own campaign.

I'm not sure any manager could actually rate Shola as a Premier League striker. He's been quite lucky to be kept at the club because of a combination of mismanagement and bad ownership leading to crap/injured players being signed and lack of money requiring a cheap body to be kept.
-
The only difference is that Cameron is going to be Prime Minister, whereas there's no realistic chance of the NUST ever owning the club.
-
He's already proven how good he is in the Premier League... not very. The fact he's still playing for us at all is a minor miracle that he should thank the almighty for on a daily basis. He moves in mysterious ways like, a bit like Shola.

Very harsh assessment of Guthrie macca, potentially a very decent player who's been played out of position this season and has done a pretty good job.

Benny Benitez: Parky 6 Benny 2 (Benitez watch.). Inter sack the waiter.

By the way, any idea why the Liverpool fans are so behind Rafa? From an outsiders point of view it seems like they should have turned against him long ago. -
Is this true then? I would have thought that Stevey G could rape and murder Rafa's wife, post the video on youtube and still not get suspended. Surely he's bigger than anyone else at the club?

So Mike Ashley has made himself an absolute fortune since he took over NUFC? All in all it's been a great financial investment for him? Maybe in a parellel universe.

Weren't they more successful before Torres arrived anyway? -
I know what you mean by that but I will never forget how much I enjoyed seeing us actually lift a trophy of some meaning. As i genuinely dont expect to see it happen again its one of my most treasured memories. It also actually felt like we "won" it as well - this time it would feel like we won it because we are just the least shit. I suppose, I just don't think it is a trophy of any meaning, at least not for us at this point in our history.

I'd say it's a waste of time picking him at all if he's only going to play out wide... he offers very little in that position IMO. Duff and Robben both at pace, trickery and the ability to go at defenders.

I think we need to completely stop thinking of Milner as a wide player now. Out wide he is average, his only chance of becoming a great player is to make the centre of midfield his own.

I guess some of it's not really his fault. If Alonso wanted to go the Real Madrid then there's not a lot he could have done about it, except sign a decent replacement of course. -
Keep the club out of the financial shit is a valid thing to do. Anyway, this isn't the thread for that debate.

I feel sorry for him as well, not the nicest guy by all accounts but a very good footballer when fit. -
I'd love to see Arsenal win the league, but I think Chelsea still will. Chelsea Arsenal Man City Man Utd Maybe :/

Thing is, they've spent loads, just on very average players. -

Exactly, it would be a stupid move to sell him so cheaply right now. If we go up and he doesn't quite cut it in the Premier League, he'll still be only 22/23 and still worth at least £2m then, if not more. -
If we were offering sensible wages then I find it hard to disagree with the club over that. It's pointless to reduce the wage bill, only to let it creep back up again and get back in the mess we were in before. Simpson's a decent player and I think we should keep him, but not for too high a price.
-
Admittedly I haven't watched Milner every game this season, but I still think that we did the right thing to sell him for £12m when we did. All the signs were that his weaknesses were going to stop him becoming a top player, he can't beat a man and has little pace, and at the time even his crossing was poor. He obviously suffered from being in a very poor team, but at the time I thought it was a brilliant sale.

If we buy Beckford we've got the potential to create a partnership that might actually be able to work (ish) if we get promoted. Both Carroll and Beckford have potential to make it in the Premiership, whereas we know Shola isn't good enough. I'd be very disappointed if we got Beckford and let Carroll go without giving them a chance to play together. -

I certainly wouldn't want to sell him for that sort of fee at this point.
