There's two sides to 'not accepting sh**' though, I mean the pressure on the home players at SJP sometimes must be immense. Jeering their every mistake does them no favours at all. Sometimes I wonder whether some of our players might prefer to play away.

Thing is, even though we haven't been picking up points, for us to actually drop back many places would require too many shit teams to go on a run... just not going to happen. Obviously it isn't impossible (and the very thought makes me a bit sick), but no reason to think we'r going down IMO.

The way opinion swings back and forth after a result is sometimes scary - maybe a 12 hour posting ban after a game, until eveyone has had a chance to calm down?!

Arsenal 3 - 0 Newcastle United - 29/01/08 - Post match reaction from page 16

I know what Monkey is saying, but you've got to admit that Arsenal is not the benchmark for us at the moment. Yes, Boro beat them, but the list of teams they've given a spanking to is a lot longer than that. KK hasn't had a chance to get started yet, the fixtures have been evil. -
But we always knew we would lose the Man Utd game, and the two Arsenal ones, so KK hasn't really had a chance to get started.

Wasn't John Barnes top scorer in that season?

The Times: New "Continental" Setup at NUFC (Wise, Jimenez, Vetere)
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Rich's topic in Football
The one thing Keegan has in his favour is his incredilble people skills and charisma... he will be supported by the new trio, and if he can accept this way of working I can see it being a success. But then I'm an optomist! -

Express this morning (I read someone's over their shoulder on the train, didn't buy it!) has a load of shizzite about Keegan moving out of the shadow of Shearer and now having Wise lurking in the background. I feel sorry for the people who take this shit seriously. -
I feel a bit fickle saying I'm not too bothered about missing out... as I would have been happy(ish) with the signing. If they can get Woody and King fit they will have an awesome paring there. But that's a massive 'if'.

I can't see us getting anyone this window, but that doesn't mean Kev should be criticised for that aim. He only had a couple of weeks... and premier leage teams normally don't let their quality players move on in the middle of the season. Summer will be very interesting.

The Times: New "Continental" Setup at NUFC (Wise, Jimenez, Vetere)

We wanted a new broom, a fresh start from the Shephard era - looks like that is exactly what we're getting. The Keegan appointment could be criticised for being sentimental and backward-looking, but this is anything but... so let's give it all a chance to work. I always rated Wise as being much more astute and clever as a manager than he was thought of as a player, and Jimenez and Vetere also have good pedigree it seems. And Dave, you're right about this being a results business... there's no getting away from that. But it's great that we seem to be building a long-term system in the background, that can continue even when a manager is replaced (agree with Steve). -
Not as strange as I first thought, Jimenez and Vetere also seem to have key roles, and also a good knowledge of world football. I think Wise might prove to be a decent appointment as well, being young and fresh rather than already jaded and 'been there done that'. We'll see what happens, but I'm more positive after reading the Times website this morning.

Ah well, I stand corrected...

True, and Keegan is quite emotional and nostalgic by nature... so I wouldn't be surprised if he partly believes in what he said genuinely. -
I quite like West Ham fans, they always seem decent enough... not sure about Spurs, it has definitely escalated since they finished above us a couple of times and conveniently forgot about the previous 10 years!

We actually have a brilliant theatre, frequented by the RSC, but the guy mentions the Sage instead? That's research for you. -

Where was that one printed? The editor should be embarrassed... -
Ah, but he has to play down the middle - Arsene says so!

Thing is, they just print whatever will sell at the time, during the first Keegan era they were loving us. -
I'm a much better player now (25) than I was at 18 or 19!

Bit of a stupid stance to take. If they are good enough to improve our team's league position, we get benefit from it, and it is irrelevant if we are helping Arsenal, as they aren't in our league. You've got a point, but it's a bit more complicated than that. He'll be keeping out one of our players (e.g. Lua Lua), who we should be developing, and then he'll return to Arsenal... leaving the real issue of our lack of quality still unsolved. Don't think it's worth it to make the difference between finishing 13th and 11th, for example.

Don't agree with us giving a rival club's players premiership experience. If Wenger wants Walcott to play down the middle, he should put him in the team.
