  1. I remember an article in the local paper a couple of years ago when MK Dons discovered we were watching him and they said that our presence had immediately increased his price. The article was about Pardew justifying why we had to buy go abroad to buy young players because of the inflated prices of young English players. This constant monitoring eh?
  2. Do you think we will be paying all of their wages as there is no way that Rangers could afford them? If so it is becoming harder and harder for Ashley to deny his influence at Rangers as NUFC would then be subsiding them.
  3. If a player has options then we are unlikely to be first choice. We have no permanent manager and everyone knows we only buy a player to sell on for a profit. A player would look at Spurs and see that they are trying to build something and they will give young players a chance. They will sell players but only on their terms and if the player himself is agitating for the move.
  4. We always pull out if other clubs show interest. They should have done the deal promptly but no doubt were trying to do the "perfect" deal which always ends up with us losing out.
  5. Heard Collymore on the radio saying that when Newcastle fans were protesting against Pardew, we were never as bad as Villa are today. Are they really worse than we were against Southampton?

I think he needs to shut up and get himself some media training. He is a journalist's dream because he can't stop talking.
  7. Source? Would be proper gutted if we missed this kid. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-make-dramatic-dele-5067677? If there is any truth in that, I would expect us to "stand" aside as we do not like to get into bidding wars.
  8. That's probably his next move. After all it is what Chelsea are doing in order to meet the FFP requirements.

Bearing in mind we no longer offer improved contracts after a couple of years if a player does exceptionally well, he would be committing himself to £6k a week until he is 24. Most clubs would want to improve a player's contract if they are doing well in order to keep them at the club. There is no need for us to do that as we plan to sell them instead. If he leaves, the club will drop enough soundbites through the media about him wanting too much money so most fans will accuse him of being greedy and say the club were right not to concede to his and the agent's demands.
  10. Strange announcement to make now because the prices are already frozen for those on the 10/9/8 year etc schemes who have to renew this week.
  11. All the talk has come from MK Dons. Their manager mentioned our interest the other day but said we hadn't spoken to them. It sounds as if they are trying to get a bidding war going on as other clubs are supposed to be "monitoring" the situation as well.
  12. Sports Direct expanding into Spain?
  13. Yep. Been having a great season for Besiktas. But would West Brom pay his wages? I think West Brom pay players less than us.

He really gets us doesn't he? Bang on the money these last few month. Did you hear the bit earlier in the programme when they were talking about Lance Armstrong and a book that he has been heavily influenced by. Des Kelly listed some of the principles. I think Ashley must have read the same book as it was a pretty accurate description of how we are being run.

  16. Aye. I hated him at Boro with his magnificent bland football and I wouldn't want him now. he does however seem a perfect fit for Ashley. Grim. I can see why they would want him but I cannot see why he would switch Derby for us. Presumably he is the "manager" there rather than just a coach and can buy and sell who he likes. He probably earns more at Derby than he would here. He left Forest very quickly because he was unhappy with the set-up there and it is probably worse here. I would also expect that he would not appreciate being told what he can and cannot say in the media. Maybe he thinks he will get more of an influence because of a personal relationship with Carr. And I think he still lives in Yarm so he would be nearer to his home. Other than that, I can't see why we would be an attractive option to him. I recall many complaints from Boro fans about negative and overly cautious football and their mocking when he regularly said they were "magnificent". I have no idea whether his style of football over the years has improved. His appointment would just scream continue to be average to me and that is a very depressing thought. And it will be a joke if we end up with McLaren after months of supposedly searching for the right man to re-invigorate the club and bring a new energy and ideas is laughable.

Has a caretaker manager ever been successful once appointed as manager? It all went very quickly wrong for Roeder and Dinnis. Usually there is the initial positive impact because the manager has been sacked but that is not the case here.
  18. Arbitory date that isn't soon. See we want to be like Villa, Arsenal, Southampton in our 3,4,5,8 year plan. Apart from linking it to when Rangers might be in the Champions League, I wondered whether they just came up with a date to quell the disquiet at the time. If the fans think he is on his way in a couple of years, then they will put up and shut up for the duration.

The real test imo If it was going to be Tuchel or Garde then there is no reason why they can't announce it now. Their first choice must be in a job now.

That Mirror journalist in the immediate days following Pardew's departure said that McLaren was their first choice which if true shows that the last month has been another deliberate exercise to mislead the fans.

And would just goes to show that all the talk of doing due diligence to make certain they get the "right" man was a load of nonsense if they end up appointing their mate.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-decided-go-john-8518862 "Carver is still contracted to Newcastle until 2020 along with Steve Stone and Andy Woodman. As reported by the Chronicle last week it will cost over £2million to dispense of their services due to the long contracts dished out in 2013." They get £3.5m for Pardew so why can't they use that to pay them off.

Can you imagine any other club being prepared to wait SIX MONTHS for Steve McLaren. As said above, let's hope Derby get promoted and he stays there.
